Ignore the experts

One of the prime prongs of media news/entertainment (the merging of these two categories has done enormous harm to this country) is focusing on negativity. Positivity doesn’t create a furor nearly as beneficially profitable for the media as negativity. It’s not even close. Your OP is on point in that they should be iced out and ignored but the obvious question to be asked is, “Why are you watching them?”

I’m good with never knowing what SS, SB, and SAS think about anything on any subject. I unplugged from this garbage (cable news in general as well) years ago and do not miss it.

Not only that but perhaps are following or watching the wrong experts.

Turn the TV off and pick up a paper or click on a link , etc on experts and beat writers who actually follow the Cowboys for a living.

But if that’s what you’re watching then it certainly explains the perception you’re getting.
I've always argued that its impossible to be a "expert" at sports when there's so many games on TV. There's about 15 or 16 games on a week and I'm suppose to believe these guys who have all of these businesses, tv shows, etc. are watching actual game film? Of course not. They are just as qualified as we are. Now some people do great stuff on TV. Not to say all are like this but Stephen A Smith for instance has 10 different jobs at ESPN. He has no time to watch games lol.

I think we must have fans who are just too lazy to look for info coming from those who follow the Cowboys the closet.

It’s too easy to just flip on the TV and watch ESPN, NFLN or Fox for example with national coverage .

At the very least you can add our local papers on Facebook .

I don’t know about being lazy (some people are genuinely busy) but you’re right, it’s without a doubt true that it’s easier to flip to a channel and have someone tell you what to think.

The experts are the ones actually working in the league. Everyone else is just spouting noise, outside of stat/analytic nerds, and this includes former players. Each franchise’s staff and players are the only real experts in the entire world on what’s going on in that locker room.

Understood but if you’re busy working how much time do you have turning on the TV during the day instead of clicking on links and sites who are writing about and following the Cowboys. Since I follow them all on my iPhone and Facebook it actually takes less time and effort and can read and view at my discretion.

These National broadcast are catering more to the at large fans from opposing teams which draws interest and viewers. It’s great if you want to learn more about other teams but not if you want info or insight on our team. Especially from those who follow us every day.

I doubt Stephen A or Cowherd have even been to a Cowboys practice , the Star or a game this year. Why wouldn’t we want to read and listen to those who have contact almost daily with everyone with the Cowboys. That’s the insight and info I’m looking for . Not some yahoo on the TV. And why I think it’s lazy.

I mean you are. You sat there and described a whole damn segment of something most of us don't even watch lol.

Most of us hate politicians too, but we still discuss them, don’t we? I don’t “watch them” either. It’s not “must see TV” in my house, but are any of us totally “pundit free”? If every 3 or 4 days, when you’re clicking around, if you pause for 12 seconds and you hear 28 words, then you come here and say “Skip’s fake!” That means you’re invested in their pandering circus, huh? If you’re exposed, you’re exposed, right? All or nothing, otherwise you’re a hypocrite.

Either people need to feel “pundit free” to feel superior, or my point in this particular instance disproves the ‘McCarthy sucks’ crowd.

I get discussing it. I'm not saying don't discuss it. I'm just saying you're telling us to ignore what most of us are already ignoring lol. I think the only time we see or hear about those shows is when its posted here lol.

Right.

And if you’d be interested in anyone’s take on what’s happening in that locker room wouldn’t it be from those who are actually in there or on the practice field during the week.

Yea, it’s fine to post about how awful and ridiculous those shows are. I’m ok with that. I don’t watch them so it doesn’t matter.

I’m just not sure why if you recognize they’re junk you’d still tune in. I suppose you can just laugh at them for sheer entertainment.

But I’m all for calling them out. Like we would anything else . As long as it doesn’t give them any credibility. And it didn’t influence your opinion.

Most of the time I see Trolls using their opinions to align or support their own opinions .

Perhaps the experts need to be defined better from the personalities.

Just because a guy has a TV show or a platform doesn’t necessarily define an “ expert”. Some are more like sports entertaining personalities.

I used to just turn ESPN on in the background while I did other things.

You make an interesting point about apps though. I cater my sports tastes fine tunely to people’s opinions I value with apps on my phone with subsequent update notifications. That’s so much more efficient when it comes to getting valuable information. I’m somewhat shocked these caustic, opinion shows on ESPN have such staying power. I imagine it has a lot to do with the entertainment factor but I personally don’t want, and certainly don’t need, to have my news delivered in an entertainment format. Just the facts please.

Yep

And that’s basically what these are . And well put, “ entertainment format”. That aligns with my sports entertainment personality. I wouldn’t describe them as experts.

Why anyone would purposefully listen to the garbage that the talking heads spew out is beyond me. They offer nothing of note and add no value to sports.

I don’t even like watching all of the pregame analyst from former players and coaches anymore. It’s all entertainment personality driven as well.

TV is good for broadcasting the games, highlights and interviews and or documentaries. That’s about it. The rest is garbage in and out. They aren’t who I’m looking for with expert analysis.

I’m more apt to listen to a broadcaster calling the game. Romo and Troy do a fairly good job for example. I enjoy their take watching the game more than a round table of former jocks before and after the game playing more to the camera on mostly scripted dialogue.

I don't like a lot of the "experts", especially Stephen A, Skip, Shannon and Colin.

But, I don't ignore them.

I can tell you, as someone that spent a long time as a, first Historian, and now as an exec that runs a branch of a multi million dollar company, you should always listen to people that you don't agree with.

Doesn't mean you have to like it. Heck, I read all of Pappy's posts.

I get what you and others here are saying though.

Its boggling my mind as well.

It’s strange because bayless was a homer for The Cowboys for a long time. He covered them for years and one would think he would have sources. I used to watch them after a Cowboys win the next morning cause he would give shannon crap. Then suddenly he didn’t like Elliot but loved Dak. Then all the sudden over the contract he started hating on Dak. Then I quit watching because skip would dog on them more than shannon did. Rile reversal for tv drama. I am assuming another win and cowturd will get on the train.
