I'll remember this draft forever

i agree with this thinking so far jerry jones has not done anything in the last thirty years to make me believe that he is a real nfl general manager.
The REAL problem is he's a GM that interferes with coaching. A real NFL GM provides his coach with the tools to...coach. And knows when to step back.

If Jerry felt he could honestly own, general manage...AND head coach explicitly...he'd do it. But we all know he does it on the down low.

You just go off too early dude.. hopefully we did have great draft.. but we have no idea yet.

Many great college players don't make it in the NFL..

We need to see how they play against NFL talent first before we can judge.

Calm down with the premature exaltations
Premature celebrations? This is our time to shine every year! Parker is already our next HC. Actually....I'd take him as our next HC today.

I look forward to a day when the NFL draft is a boring process as I wait three and a half hours for my team to finally choose at pick #32
.
Whichmeans 3-1/2 hours watching our team in the super bowl......heck just a conference championship would be cool. We used to get those once in awhile.

the seahawks and patriots are in the position they are because of good drafts after poor seasons. if anything that should actually give us some hope at a rapid turn around. and it's not like we were picking in the top 5, we were picking at 12, and incredibly excited over landing an absolute stud, blue chipper outside of the top 5/10 in a draft lacking many guys of that caliber. we all want the same thing my friend.
Ten of the Seahawk's 22 starters last season were not drafted by them.

Two of their four top ten overall draft picks were not drafted by them.

The Seahawks have just as many undrafted free agents starting for them than their own 1st round picks. Two of them were starters in their secondary.

All four of their starting LBs in their 3-4 were drafted by other teams.

This is a defense that was ranked #1 in points allowed.

Only two of their five players named to the Pro Bowl were drafted by them.

The Seahawks did not win the Super Bowl because they had an abundance of top ten draft picks. They won because they had excellent management and excellent coaching.

Their DC, Aiden Durde was the Cowboys D-line coach when they went 12-5 three years in a row and that defense was a top 7 in points allowed all three of those years.

John Schneider has been their GM for 16 years, a period in which they have gone to the playoffs 11 times, the Super Bowl 3 times and took the Lombardi twice.

I'm not criticizing the Cowboys draft, they drafted well as they often do.

I'm saying their management lacks the talent, experience, and commitment to build anything out of their drafts.

As a result, the Cowboys draft has become their most important event on an annual basis.

Good post. Realized you said well instead of good/great at drafting. Had to edit. Dallas not being as good at drafting has been one of their downfalls as they usually rely on only that to upgrade the roster.

that’s a completely different argument / discussion. if you’d said they’re better run organizations initially sure.

I was responding to “the seahawks aren’t congratulating themselves for drafting downs because they weren’t in position to” slight. but recently they were. poor seasons, traded a franchise player and has multiple firsts to get them witherspoon and jsn, which were absolutely celebrated.

yes the cowboys are mired n a stretch if futility, but no one’s celebrating the draft because of it, they’re excited to get a fantastic player

And you didn't?
I wouldn't have a clue.. I don't watch College football.

I watched the draft but I was looking at positions rather than names..

We drafted a S with the first pick.. and I thought.. hmmm don't know about that..

But I looked on here and people were saying he is the next Ed Reed,, so I thought.. ok.. if they are right that's a cracker of a pick.

I was happy that they drafted a lot of defensive players.. I watched some highlights vids.. but everyone looks good in those.

Ask me in 2 years time and I will tell you the answer to your question.

I hope this draft turns out great, but 1975 was the best ever, followed by 2005 and 1989.

Lots of folks though 2021 was the best, but as you can see there were many disappointments.

we got everything we needed and wanted. Jerry did NOT do Jerry, he was more of a GM. Kudos to him on that. The rest is up to the coaches and players. This is actually an exciting off season. Jerry didnt waste time, he didnt waste teh draft or free agency, he attacked it like a solid GM.
Makes me think maybe his grandsons are helping out a lot. John Stephen was right there in the thick of things in the war room.

“Yet again”

There was always going to be a “yet again” because we needed a minimum of seven new starters and maybe as many as nine.

So, “yet again” is a phrase more closely tied to expectations than it is to the actual draft.

Just my opinion.
Yet again they failed to utilize FA properly and went into the draft with major holes. Does that sound better?

A lot of draft experts liked day three.

Anyone who doesn’t devote a ton of time to draft research honestly has extremely limited insight into those players
I consider myself pretty educated in the draft and the players. Taking a tackle that is that raw that high was not smart, taking a tall corner yet again after the last one worked out so well was probably not a good idea either.

This team needed immediate help, and there were players there that could have offered that. But because this team drafted Guyton and paid Steele they were forced into drafting a guy we didnt really need if they would just draft and pay the right people.

That is the problem.

I think that they should trade for Brooks. A lot of people are high on Moore the corner from Florida. Also they added Winters with that day 3 pick. Trigg could potentially pay big dividends.
You said that about Perrion Winfrey last year man. Where is he now? He couldnt even crack the lineup. Yet again.

They arent trading for brooks. If they were going to do that, they would have done that before Winter.

We had an unbelievable draft that very well could set the team up for many good seasons in the future. Going into the draft there were 2 players that I was interested in drafting with the first pick. They were Caleb Downs and Rueben Bain in that order. Little did I know that both could be possible.

This unbelievable ride down the draft started with Arizona drafting Love. Arizona already had a full roster of running backs, but they took Love anyway. They could have easily taken Reese. So, now you would assume that Tennessee would take Reese, but they throw a curve ball and take Tate. When they took Tate I exploded off my coach with shouts of joy. I couldn't believe it. I knew good things were coming.

Then we hit the Giants at 5. I figured out the Giants would take one offensive payer and one defensive player in the 1st round. I thought they would take Love or Tyson. Love waa already gone and the Giants went with Reese. They could have easily gone with Downs.

Then the Chiefs trade up for Delane and Washington takes Styles. The Saints take Tyson and then we knew that the Browns would take oline and I knew that the Giants wanted to take an offensive player and they did.

Then we get to Miami at 11 and both Downs and Bain are on the board. I knew that trade could be coming. Guess who is going to help us not once but twice? That would the Rams. The Rams were sitting at 13 and weren't likely to trade up. I had seen Lemon mocked to them and also knew they were interested in the qb. The Cowboys were able trade up for Downs and the Rams took the qb which kept Lemon on the board and this set the Cowboys up to do the 2nd trade that netted them an edge, a corner, and a dlineman. A totaly awesome chain of events that I will remember forever as I watch our team play in the future.
As much as we like to kick Jerry around (and deservedly so), there is an element of luck in the draft that cannot be underestimated. Some years, other teams pull the rug out from under you and there's nowhere to turn; some years, they lay out the red carpet and you just glide on through...

One change in picks 3 through 10 and Downs doesn't make it to 11.

I'm expecting a Sean Taylor type impact at the Safety position following all the hype for Downs.
