I wanted Bentley, but he got way too much money. Same for Hutchinson.
IF we had gotten them we could not have gotten anyone else and could not have resigned any of our guys. Which would have been bad news down the road. I think BP and JJ made the right decision. Also we could not have signed TO either. Now with two more pro bowl players on the O line in addition to the two we already had we would have had the best line in pro football and maybe we would not have needed anyone else. We could have kept Key and with Witten and Glenn and a top O line we would have done pretty good. ALso we could not have re signed Glenn like we did. BUt the real difference is being able to lock up Roy and Witten and maybe James for years to come. Also those huge contracts would have made if difficult to resign Newman next year. So you really have to think about it.

Bentley was NOT going anywhere but Cleveland.

That is where he wanted to go from the start and it was made pretty clear.

He is from that area and that was the only place he was going to sign.

So...we could not have gotten him even if we wanted him.

As far as hutchinson...His signing bonus was WAY too much for one year in order to get him away from Seattle and if we would have gotten into the bidding war with both the Vikings and Seattle chances are as high as the signing bonus is right now...it would be another 1-2 million higher due to the three team bidding war.

So...it is not just a thing where you go out and sign guys ala madden football.

We should have picked up one of the two big offensive linemen in the offseason this year.

There is no excuse for not getting either Steve Hutchinson or LeCharles Bentley.

You're replacing Larry Allen, you need to go with the best out there to do it. And I honestly think we settled for a mid range kind of guy. Not saying I hate Kosier, but I have little to no faith in him.

With one (let alone both, I know thats a bit unrealistic given the cost, but I'm just saying) of these guys, we'd be in real position to have a good explosive offense that would only be rivaled by our defense.

it all depends. do you want to put all your eggs in one basket? you just mentioned two of the least important positions on the OL and on the offensive side. why should hutchinson be paid $45 mill and take up 7% of your salary cap! spending that much on one player leaves you with little to spend every where else ala ayodele, vandy, TO and others.

Not so much, but chips and margaritas I can pound down by the bucket.

But in the mid 90s I ate at a place in San Antonio, was considered what they called 'Mexican quisine'. Maybe so they could charge more, but it was delicious.

You DO realize that Bentley's knee looks like the heart of Berlin in 1945 and Hutchinson got a king's ransom, right?

Hutchinson would have been a good guy, but not at that price. We may have something with Proctor, maybe not this year, but soon. Guards, in theory, are easy to come by.

If Gurode comes on strong this year, I think we wont be mad at missing out on Bentley at all. Especialyl since he's hurt.

So, according to your theory, the season is basically predetermined.
Not so much. I think we influence what happens. Things like Death when it will happen I don't think you can change the day or time BUt how you die yes. I think when your body reaches a certain point injuries occur and no matter what you do the injury will occur.

For instance I broke my back in the Navy lifting a HP Chain that weighed close to 300lbs I'd done it many times nothing different when I hurt my back. I just reached the max point my back was destined to take. it was fate. I think my back would have gone bad no matter what. Now If I had taken better care of it maybe I could have delayed it a few years but in time it still would have gone out.... Like I said it was fate...

His knee was ment to go and would have if not in Mini camp then prob later in the year... Fact is we can never know its just what you beleive....

Adam responded to this take a couple of days ago.

Hutchinsons cap figure this year is $13 million.

He also makes more than Rivera Kosier and Columbo combined. We didnt run during the preseason. im ot particularly concerned about that. Our pass protction has been good and our teams within the last couple years with Adams in the lineup have been great at counterattacking the blitz.

You can only buy so much talent. Most of it you either draft or sign as undrafted. Otherwise you'll be like the Skins or SF a few years ago.

I understand differing view points but as long as Parcells is here you are going to see us develop the OL like we have. Dallas has never drafted that many OL high anyway.
