I don't know how anyone could have watched that game last night and not thought the defense was an issue. The inability to cover the 49ers receivers was as obvious as dirt. I don't want to hear about what the offense didn't do. Yes, they stunk too, but that has nothing to do with SF scoring TDs on 3 drive in the first half and almost getting a 4th if not for a fumble/takeway on the Cowboys 1 yard line. The defense shot themselves in the foot as much as the offense. The 49ers picked up big play after big play and Dallas could not stop them. The best pass defense was Hankins knocking down two passes on Purdy.
Quinn had no answers last night and he let Parsons take a beating instead of moving him off the ball where he could use his speed to make plays rather than allowing SF to negate his speed by running right at him.
In Quinn's defense losing Diggs has hurt this defense much more than we think. Gilmore simply cannot keep up with the quicker WRs in the league and he gets burned time and again. The Cowboys pass defense is their pass rush and if they don't get that QBs can carve them up.
Sure the offense was awful with way to many 3 and outs. But that is simply not an excuse for the porous defense in the first half.
Honestly, teams that test Gilmore win. They are testing Kearse and they are winning there too. The defense has been undisciplined at times and in two games it has hurt them badly. Say what you want about Dak and the offense, they deserve it, but the defense was exposed again last night.
