I'm convinced, it needs to happen

Completely agree. I never liked moving Collins to RT.

I initially liked the move and thought he might be another Erik Williams. But it's never happened. Time to admit that.

Conner needs to bulk up and get stronger either way. Having Columbo in charge may settle all of them down and if we get F Beard back we will still be better than last season.

The team's biggest issue was not being able to drive people off the ball consistently, when it mattered most. There's simply no excuse for a team with this much invested in their line and running game to fail so often. And it was a big reason why their red zone offense was so pathetic. Getting Collins back to guard will give you another physical presence inside, and versatility to being able to drive the ball inside on either side. With Williams in there, the team is entirely right handed, having to pull him to get any movement.

because you guys know more then the entire cowboys organization, they are purposely playing players out of positions when they have the players to solve what you think is an obvious problem.. lets let the Cowboys figure out that, I think they know more then us..Cwill off season get bigger with year experience will help a ton..having Fred to glue it all back together also helps, and having Dak not hold onto the ball too long forcing our Oline to block longer..

im glad you watch MORE tape on the Cowboys then they do..

Yea hence the firing of Paul Alexander. Solid NFL coach who knows more but not a good fit here and Collins is a good player who was better at LG than RT. I hate to keep changing player positions but you gotta put each guy at their best position to succeed.

I've been asking for this since early 2017...Collins is awful at RT. Don't get me wrong, he was not lights out at LG, Learly was much better when he was here but Collins is good enough at Guard to get by....he is NOT good enough at RT to get by.

thats not the only Coach who has input, there are 3-4 guys who do nothing but breakdown tape, others coaches in film session rooms watch it, and then the big OC and DC and HC look it all over and they make decsions like this..PA is gone but mid way at 3-5 they did not move LC did they? did Jerry or anyone ever say they need to do something there? Cwill lost his spot do to injury and Xavier looked better against the run for sure at that time but they both had issues pass blocking but until the Organization says they feel LC is horrible im not seeing it..is he perfect no but we dont know more then them, I promise as much as you guys FEEL this, you arent anything close to talent evaluator as the entire Cowboys organization.. we had line issues I agree but ill wait and see how they handle it then saying im convinced they are doing it wrong..

The more I look at things, the clearer it gets. The more film I watch, the more draft reports I read, and the more bad short yardage and goal line stats make clear, change needs to happen on the offensive line.

La'el Collins needs to go back to left guard. The 6'4" 320 lb lineman needs to go back to mauling people in a phone booth. To driving opponents off the ball in front of him. To move away from being unsure of himself, and who to block, and back to lining up and doing what he does best. You want to improve in short yardage situations? Line Collins up inside and let him do what he does best, drive people off the ball. Have two strengths at guard, on both sides, rather than having to pull your left guard to try to get any sort of movement. Stop playing with one arm tied behind your back.

At nearly $10 million in cap hit, Collins isn't worth the money at right tackle. He just might be at guard.

Connor Williams needs to go back to playing tackle. Right tackle, left tackle, swing tackle, any tackle. At 6'5" and 300 lbs, he's simply miscast inside. It may have made sense on paper, but it doesn't and never did on the field. Move him away from being bullrushed and run over and allow him to use his best attributes, feet and agility, to move on the perimeter and mirror pass rushers. Get better in pass protection by having a tackle play tackle.

As a second round draft pick, Williams is a liability, not an asset at guard. He lost the job to Xavier Su'a Filo for much of the season, and only got it back after the street free agent was hurt.

As it stands today, the team has two guys playing out of position, and it's hurting both of them and the team. Two guys trying to be something they're not. And it needs to end.

I tend to agree, although...

Playing inside is more mentally challenging and La'el seems a bit slow to process info.

Connor Williams played much better when he returned. He will get bigger like Tyron got bigger. The question is how long it will take.

They have good depth at OG now with Looney, Sua-Filo and the guy they obtained in a trade all competing there as well as either Williams or La'el.

The biggest issue to me is that they can't move Williams after the season starts unless he focused on OT in training camp.

A hidden benefit is that La'el could move back to OT if an injury occurred to Williams.

If Williams was an option at LT, that would greatly improve the depth at OT where they currently have none.

OT depth is my biggest concern on the roster.

I think La'el is slower to process info outside than inside. Inside, he was able to better focus on quickly striking or moving one guy and not as much about what the other guy might do to him. His assignments were simpler and I think he reacted better for it.

I'm pretty sure stash, most any who watched the ragle tagle O-line play the last 2 seasons, will agree here. We saw this coaching staff make bone headed choices like this, prime example is Byron Jones as S.... we all knew he wasn't a S, but a top notch CB. And for the most part he showed it this last season. Collins should NEVER have been moved to RT. Now whether that was some chum talk between him and JJ the butt clown, who knows, he may have been a good tackle in college, but in the NFL his butt needs to play guard. IF these coaches can tweak us just a little, move guys into positions that benefit the team and scheme our offense can be deadly in 19. My fear, these bone heads will take that just that smidgen to far like they are always want to do.

Not saying anyone knows more but Collins played better at LG than RT, even so you don't change positions in season. Green was serviceable at swing tackle untill they started moving him around and that destroyed his technique. I thought at the time Collins pushed for being a tackle for the $. He wasn't horrible at all but he wasn't great at RT but I thought he was an elite run blocking LG. Connor with his lack of strength is very tall as an inside block but might do better as a swing tackle using his quickness untill tyron is hurt again. Conner has more technique then sua but Conner found out that leverage and strength will beat you inside and the shorter, stronger DT's blowing by conner proved that point.

Applause! Wish I could like this post more than once. This is exactly what needs to happen on the offensive line.

Collins is built like a guard and excelled as one. I get it - offensive linemen want to play tackle because they are paid better. But moving him to guard is best for the team. and Williams, no matter how much he bulks up, will never be a guard. The kid looked like a tight end out there, only a few pounds heavier than Rico Gathers. His agility and mobility are his asset. He should be playing tackle.

From your lips to Jerry's ears.

It's a legitimate concern. They haven't been known for their progressive thinking.

But I firmly believe that moving Collins back to left guard is a win-win, for both player and team. It's his best position and positions the team with another strength inside, and it puts him in a better spot to showcase his strengths while minimizing his weakness. It sets him up for a new big-money contract, here or elsewhere. It's clear the NFL is paying guards once again, and I'd bet off the top of my head that the top guards are making better money than the top right tackles.

I can't help but to think that the top guards are getting paid better than the top right tackles right now. I'm going to look that up.

Yeah, top guards are getting paid more than right tackles. Lane Johnson is the highest and his pay isn't a whole lot more than Collins right now. But the production between the two isn't close.

Looking at the current bang for the buck, I can see why some might consider Collins a cap casualty.

Chaz Green
and all teams have backups that started good, they thought they could develop, and in Greens case got the yips and couldn't recover..he wasn't starter and for sure LC is twice the players as Green..try again..chaz is no longer here..

This is the most obvious move in the world.

But Jason Garrett thinks he is smarter than everyone and players aren’t used properly here.

It’s the same reason it took Byron Jones 3 years to get to corner and why we can’t comeupw its anything creative on offense and why we allowed Dez to be taken out of game after game even when he was in his prime.

The coaching staff ruined Chaz Green.

Nick Hayden, Byron Jones, 1-tech in general, WR early in the year (remember we don't need a #1), carousel at LG, horrible CB transition in '17.

I could go on

Personally I want Collins to be the swing tackle, move Williams to right tackle, put Looney at left guard assuming Fred is back, and maybe draft a guard..
