I'm not entirely trying to sweep it under the rug, and Wade is probably better at "running a team" or "getting guys ready to play" than he is getting credit for. But I just think in general some of that stuff gets kind of overrated in the first place. I think everyone has seen those movies where guys like Bear Bryant yell at the players a bunch and run them through the grindstone, and so it seems like that is how you coach a football team. But I don't think every team necessarily needs that, especially if you have guys that are focused and able to motivate from within. Every team is just a little bit different, and maybe this one doesn't need the micromanager that everyone has been clamoring for.

Could a lot of coaches have won with TO, Tank, Pac, etc? Probably not, but I also don't know if other coaches would let them get as far under the skin of the team like Wade did. It may not be a great situation for many, but it was a terrible situation for a guy like Wade that doesn't seem to want to be confrontational.

This isn't a knock on Wade because every coach has strengths and weaknesses. Wade has clearly brought some good things that the team needed. He's finally gotten that defense shored up that was a problem before he got here. He isn't running the team's spirits into the ground like Parcells. The team's drafting seems to be pretty good since he has been here. I'm not sure who to credit for that, whether Wade is having a lot of input or the scouting system Jerry has put in place is responsible. But even if it is the latter, it's still a credit to Wade for not having the ego to step in considering how many brand-name coaching candidates out there seem to want to be in charge of drafting and don't exactly have a good track record there.

This is a long ramble that isn't going anywhere so I guess what I'm trying to say is that in a weird way, Wade may actually be exactly what we needed. I think with coaches you have to find a guy whose strengths bring something you lacked and weaknesses are able to be overcome by the rest of the organization. I could feel completely different in another week or two, but at this point you have to feel pretty good about the direction this thing is headed.

Absolutely. This wasn't a rambling, it's what each Cowboys fan knows to be true- we would just like a damn playoff victory to validate it.

Wade's done a great job. Period.

It's like Jerry said, let's get some wins to validate this thing.

Wade has done a great job the past few weeks. There's no way to dance around that reality. The question for most of us who doubted Wade was can he lead the team on a deep playoff run. It all starts next week. As a long time fan, I'm hoping that he can put this question to bed once and for all.

Go Cowboys!!!!!!!!!!!:starspin

I can't believe I'm typing this because I've been a big Fire Wade guy, but there is no way he should be fired after an 11-5 season and an NFC East division title.

I reserve the right to change my mind if we lay an egg next week, (don't think we will), but continuity is important if you have a competent HC and staff and Wade is obviously a competent HC to say the least. He's actually a good HC, but the problem is we want a Championship HC. Unfortunately, they don't sell those at the 7-11.

Jerry likes him and wants to bring him back. I say he's back no matter what happens next week.

I hate to say it but i'm still not on the Wade badwagon.Maybe a few playoff wins will change my tune but i'm not so sure.

The defense pitched a shutout but some of that was because of a poor offensive effort by the Eagles. The penalties were pretty frequent today as well, three of those penalties negated two Felix Jones touches and a decent punt return by Crayton. Those three penalties by themselves can cost you games in the playoffs.

You're probably right.....but I'm sure that Jerry would like to end this playoff win drought to validate it even more.

Oh I agree. No question they all want that. I'm sure wade wants it for his own gratification despite the job issue.

But with another division title on his resume (2 out of 3) it's hard to argue the guy should be fired.

Sorry, just no other way to put it then say, thats one dumb realization. I am not a Wade fan myself and never been one. But to say, he is not the HC, is just plain stupid at this point. This is NFL,you don't luck yourself into a winning team on a consistent basis, without a good HC, wether he is a also the DC or OC of the team.

Wade might not be the Ra-Ra guy we all would like him to be etc., but proof is in the pudding. IF they win next saturday, Wade will have proved himself to be a good HC. Maybe not a Great HC, but definetly a good HC. The December/January schedule was brutal for Cowboys, yet they came out with a Winning record, and probably if not for 3 plays against Giants, could have come away with 4-1 December record. San Diego Game, I thought cowboys didn't have control.

Berry Switzer lucked his way to a SB ring.

First place in the NFC East

11-5, record

Two back to back shutouts vs our most heated and hated rivals

Beating an undefeated team at their house

I have to agree,at this point, no matter what happens in the playoffs Wade has to stay.,

It's going to be a tall order to beat a divisional team three times in one year (which I believe they will do ) but I don't beleive that any other coach could have done any better.

He may not be one of the most big name coaches ,but he's done OK, So I'm done Wade bashing.

PS;Can't we hire a ***** assistant coach to take care of all the dumb penalties we get.

Get a stupid penalty at practice, Go stand in the shed.

(sorry my bad)

I think Wade has done a solid job....

Players need to execute and play with passion. Next weeks game is on the players IMHO.

When you know a team as well as these two teams know eachother.....its up to the players to win the game .

Not to call you out, but I think this is the exact kind of mindset I am starting to highly, highly disagree with when it comes with Wade.

I don't think the difference between this year and last is merely that we now have self motivated guys. Last year's roster was toxic, as it's since been proven. Do we really hang it on Wade that he couldn't make it work when guys like T.O., Pacman and Tank were tearing the house down from within? It's like blaming a foster parent for not being able to turn around three problem children that are aged 17 and under their supervision for six months. Hard to undo 17 years in six months, you know what I mean?

I also think it's unfair to Wade to sweep what he's done this year under the rug as "well, these players are self motivated." Even Jim Caldwell gets more credit lol.

Here is the way I look at Wade Phillips. Very bright and player oriented coach who as head coach functioned more administratively and strived to quality assure the defense. Wade historically and understandably put a lot of faith in players but perhaps to a fault in coaches. Wade has had a hands off policy with the offense as he did when he head coached the Broncos.

That had to change this year considering how our talented team cratered the last 2 years and to Wade's credit he vowed to and effected change. He started attending more defensive meetings because he had to take over the defensive coordination directly after dismissing Stewart.

I bet he is also participating in offensive meetings as well now. Wade also made the offense more accountable to him. He clearly has been more actively involved in ensuring we get the most out of the players. Clearly Wade is working harder, more involved in all facets of field performance as well as playcalling the defense and it is appreciably showing.

The man has a brilliant defensive mind and the players and coaches love him because he knows when to let up but also clamp down and they believe and respect him for it.

In the process some key players such as Romo and Jenkins have matured and evolved. Even Garrett is growing in the offensive coordinator position. Kudos to Jerry Jones as well for helping select and acquire the personnel based on the input of coaches and scouts.

Jerry was laughed at by fans and media for sticking with Austin and identifying him as one of the young receivers with great potential. I guess he knows a lot more than the media and fans do about his team. Jerry bolstered the running back and cornerback position and refortified the linebacking position (Brooking, Olshansky) by making the acquisitions happen.

For many, this thread should read. "I'm done hating on Wade, for now."

Things are going well right now and Wade's getting some deserved love. But a loss next week, or lack of a "deep playoff run", or the next PC where he comes off as a country bumpkin in a disappointing situation, or a penalty filled game etc., and Wade's head will be called for by this same group. Some have even said exactly that.

I'll go back to what I think I've been consistent about. There is more than one way to skin a cat. The Cowboys collectively have a winning formula right now. I think we're all happy about that. Tomorrow it'll all be churned again.

Wade is who he is, he will never be a loud boisterous HC but his players play hard for him they do believe in what he is doing that too me is enough. I don't care if fans are inspired fans do not play this game the players do and as long as they believe in Wade and how he does things then I see no problems. Wade does not let this team get to high or too low and over the course of 16 games I think that is very important.
