I'm getting an early 90's vibe from this team.

1991: Cowboys go 11-5 after missing the playoffs the previous season, win in the wildcard round, and get beaten soundly in the divisional round.

1992: Beginning of a dynasty.

2008: Miss the playoffs

2009: Make the playoffs with an 11-5 record, win the wildcard game, and get soundly defeated in the divisional round.

Who knows, guys. This could be the start of a dynasty. I don't know about you guys, but I'm tired of the longest Super Bowl appearance drought in franchise history. It's the start of a new decade, baby! Believe!

How many people are going to start this thread?

That team was extremely young and had a ton of extra draft picks to look forward to. Plus it had Jimmy Johnson. On the other hand, this is not a particularly young team, and it has perennial playoff loser Wade Phillips.

The early 90's has nothing to do with today. That was a young team on the rise in 1990, and 1991. It was clear. They would have made the playoffs in 1990 if it weren't for injuries late in the year.

This team is an enigma right now.

How convenient that you left out 2007's disappointment.

You better hurry.

The quarterback is almost 30 and many of the other top players are already in their prime years.

I keep seeing this 1991 comparison.

Different time, very different head coach, and those players were younger.

honestly, this was exactly my first thought also. that guarantees nothing, of course, but I feel good about where this team is heading.

Yep ... not a good comparison. But if it makes you guys feel better, to each their own.

I understand we all need to try and understand why things happen the way they do in the universe ...

I'm ticked off that we didn't even have a fighting chance in this game. We were dominated and beaten like a sick child. Their DL manhandled us from top to bottom.

The only way we get better is to make sure that kind of butt whipping doesn't happen again. We need to improve our OL ... it's time to stop ignoring it.

Gotta fix the OL fast.

Problem is, it usually takes a couple of years to develop an OL.

Free may or may not be a good regular starter. Brewster is a complete unknown, and anyone we draft will obviously be a rookie.

I'm getting a Cleveland Browns, Kansas City Chiefs, San Diego Chargers vibe from this team.

No coincidence, imo, that some coaches like M. Shottenheimer, Norv and Wade can never make it to the Super Bowl, let alone win it, even though they can routinely have winning seasons and even make the playoffs.

Anyone that hires one of these guys as HC deserve what they get.

What's wrong with having a 30 year old quarterback? Brett Favre is 40, and he's playing like he's at the height of his prime.

There's still plenty of young talent on this team. Felix Jones and Miles Austin to name a few. And the talent on defense is outstanding, and Jenkins has proved he's going to be a great corner.

The OL is the main issue... maybe we can fix that next year with no cap.

Bad comparison. I mean, really a good comparison, just that it sucks.

Teams have disappointments all the time. Colts in 2005, for example. It's just part of the game.

I used to think you were just crazy.

Then, I thought you were just negative.

Then, I thought you were just perhaps guarded or cautious.

Now...... I am beginning to wonder if perhaps you aren't just right.

he's been right for a while now yet people still give him crap when we're winning and everything seems ok. than when we fold again no one is around to give him crap anymore till the next season starts.

I think we're pretty young at most of the important positions, so we should have a fairly nice window of opportunity here. Four or five more years, at a minimum, maybe?

With that said, I don't really get a "90s vibe" either. I think we just happen to have a quality team that is young enough to still be good for a few more years.

The whole picture!

1989: 1-15
1990: 7-9
1991: 11-5
1992: Beginning of a dynasty.

The team was improving every year!

2007: 13-3
2008: 9-7
2009: 11-5

Can you see the difference? We were constantly improving in the early 90's. We took a huge step backwards last year and only a small step forward this year. There is no comparison! We also had a REAL coach then.

I really thought after the final 3 games of the season that this year was different.

I really did.

I'm happy we won the division, happy as hell for the playoff win, but the way we lost today just..... its crushing.
