I know alot of peoples morale is pretty low right now. Most of the better pass rushing de in fa have been taken apart from hardy and the dt crop is running pretty darn low now although i think a randy starks or jarvis jenkins could help us.
So i figured this morning i was going to take a little time to see what we have on the roster and it got me excited.
Here is why-i know they are highlight tapes for the most part and even ernie sims can look like sean lee on a highlight tape-but the coaches have been pretty high on these guys and they see this day in day out.
So enjoy the highlights
Ken bishop-Were high on him pre draft and all preseason, stuck around on the ps and didnt let us down when he was called upon-heres cause for optimism and i think he will be solid in the rotation in 2015

Davon coleman-started the 1st game of the season before they discovered crawford at the 3.Shows how much faith they had in hm and how much he showed in preseason and camp.Went to the ps continued to develope.Again like bishop they wre high on him pre draft and preseason/camp.And like bishop he could and should take the next step this year.

Ben Gardner-the man,the myth, the ledgend.I spent alot of time last year looking at stanford prospects, namely murphy and anderson.Yet #49 always stood out on tape.I loved him.I was elated when we pcked him up.I think he could be the guy to bookend lawrence or at the very least be a very strong rotational guy for us.

Chris Whaley-maybe the most intriguing of the lot if he can recover fully from his injury. He can be a 3tech but maybe given his size currently listed 6ft3 and 272lbs down from 295lbs at college he could be a lde?But the guy produces so im sure they wil get him in the rotation.

Now im not saying this group are world beaters or all pros but theres plenty there to be excited about, and maybe the resons why we didnt aggresively go after any of the named players in free agency.Especially when you look at the contracts morgan, sheard, claybourne got they werent huge in fact very affordable for us.
We know we have a couple of young studs in crawford and lawrence, the coaches seem to like jack crawford and lavarr edwards aswell but maybe just maybe they have seen enough in these young bucks to hope that gven another offseason and a couple more additions through the draft that we have enough talent on the roster already and it just needs a little time to grow and develope together to form a formidable dline rotation for us.
Sure its not the big names the likes of the rams or bills have, but this time next year who knows?
Maybe atleast 1 of these guys takes the next step and becomes a force on the dline for us.
Im certainly hopeful and excited to see what they can do

I appreciate the effort and thoughts.
We do have some bodies with somewhat known potential because they've
be with us for a year. Now we don't know what they have until real games begin
I would suppose that Bishop will have grown a bit.
I can't figure out Coleman his my mystery man.
T-Rex Gardner and Whaley I want to see them in camp, however I don't
think any of the names i have written above are more then rotational
back ups not starters regardless of the rotational players get a lot of reps thing.

We do need to be careful and get a SDE on this team and we certainly
do if we lose Spencer, I also want a DT. The draft is important
and a FA would be nice at a mid level price. Now shot me.

With the way Dallas is approaching free agency, if the defense is going to improve this year its going to be largely due to the development of a couple of these young defensive linemen. We need 1-2 of these guys to be in the rotation and contribute this year.

Very nice, timely video presentation and synopsis. I've heard for the last 10 days how the Cowboys
have regressed, no players on defense, no chance next year, Cowboy FO is bunch of lunatics, etc.
Guess what, we have a nice group of very young guys ready to prove themselves this summer.
Guess what, we will have another group of draft picks and UDFA's coming to us this summer.
Guess what, FA is not over and the Cowboys will likely bring in more transition players to allow
us to develop those young guys.

Zoners, the season has just started...It's not over by a long shot. Garrett, Stephen Jones, & Will McClay
are just starting to get the ball rolling for 2105. Now's the time to sit back and watch some pros
do their work instead of yelling, *****ing, & crying all over your keyboards. IT'S the beginning,
not the end. Trust in the process....

Don't forget about Okoye in this mix of possibilities. I am excited to see what he can bring too. If any thing, there will be some very good competition of youth even before the draft.
Don't be surprised if during TC a few may get traded.

i didnt forget him,i just preffered the younger talent on the roster and hope that if it has shown enough promise then its given a chance to develope and show ts talents on game day.
I can understand you being hopeful of okoye given his draft pedigree but for me he has been around the league for 7years now and not been able to stick, but there is reason to remain hopeful and rod seems to like him so maybe we can see him perform

All teams have these types of guys at the bottom of their roster. Expecting enough of them to pan out to turn a defense around is unrealistic.

I think it's unrealistic if you are expecting them to turn around your defense by themselves. But I think it's realistic to expect a couple of these guys to develop to help improve your defense. It's not like it hasn't happen before (e.g. Ratliff, Bowen).

we only need 1 or 2 of them to pan out into rotational guys 1 or 2 out of the 4 listed plus edwards,j carwford and kenneth boatright.so 1 or 2 out of 7?
Is that anymore unrealistic than execting an undrafted free agent qb to lead us to a superbowl?

Thanks for that very through analysis of guys we already have, but don't hear much about.

In " Rod We Trust" is my feeling about Marinelli's ability to maximize talent, and what you have posted shows that we have a bullpen that he is developing to give us 90's like depth.

Also think that what we see with this is JG's remembering what made the 90's teams on D so successful. If we find our next even 1/2 version of Charles Haley we can be very dangerous...
