NFL network just had the replay of the playoff game, and watching them drive right before halftime made me wanna PUKE!
Every play they threw to DOUBLE coverage with Reeves and Williams, these two guys trying to cover ONE GUY doesnt' even work, we NEED to get corners, more than one in this draft, that's for sure!
Forget this WOW player on offense, I want a WOW Player on DEFENSE, we can SCORE ON ANYONE at will, we need to fix the holes on defense!
But I don't really care which way we go in the draft, but we need a couple corners early!

I agree with what you're saying about corners, but we did only score 17 against the Giants, so it's not as though we scored on them at will. You could make the case if we had a better #2 reciever (than Crayton) who wouldn't have dropped that one pass, or a better 2nd RB to compliment Barber, we could have won the game.

Defense wins SB. Giants proved it. Offense is for the fans. Patriots proved it.

Trade our #28 and our 3rd and 5th rounder for the Falcons two 2nd rounders #37 and #48, it works out to 820 points we're giving up and getting back 950 in points, but that's what usually happens, teams moving up usually pay a little more and the trade value chart is just a rough example and never are trades EXACT in points!

For this mock I'm assuming the top 4 corners are off the board DRC/McKelvin/Jenkins/Talib!
So IMO no other corner is worth the 22nd pick (I'd be SHOCKED if Cason goes in round 1 after running above 4.5)

#22: W.R. Malcolm Kelly/James Hardy

We NEED to get another W.R. and need to get one NOW so that in another year or two he can be ready to take over as the #1 W.R., giving Romo more weapons is NEVER a bad thing!

#37 round 2: R.B. Felix Jones
Would be good value to get Jones at this point, some people want Charles or Johnson,I do too, but that's at the end of round 2, I think if people knew or thought Jones would be there at the end of round 2, they would take him over Johnson and Charles, but if you wanna substitute in one of the other guys here, go for it, I'm pickign Jones since it's my draft. :)

#48 W.R. Mario Manningham

Yes, I'm going W.R./R.B. then W.R. again!
Manningham was ranked about #20 overall till he ran his 40, but make no mistake he's got football speed and is a deep threat regardless of his 40 time.
AGAIN, I'm going by value and if he's here, would be GREAT VALUE!!!!!!
Talk about giving our offense weapons, we add our BIG GUY #1 W.R. of the future in Malcolm Kelly and now add our slot speed guy in Manningham also, we now have ALL our skill players on offense locked up for Romo's career once we resign Barber!

#59 our 2nd rounder: C.B. Charles Godfrey

We all know we need a C.B. and Godfrey being 6'-1 212 and running a 4.4 has tons of upside!

Gave up our 3rd rounder to Atlanta!

4th rounder C.B. Zach Bowman, Boom or Bust, and if he booms he's be a HUGE addition, multiple knee injuries slides him down the draft board, but he ran a 4.38 in the 40 at the combine and appears to be healthy, was rated a 1st rounder before injuries and could be the steal of the draft in round 4.

5th Gave up to Atlanta!

6th C./G. Fernando Velasco 6'-4 328 who plays center and guard, great backup we MUST HAVE for next year!

7th C.B. Jake Ikegwounu (take a flyer on a guy who will miss all of 08' season) put him on IR and see what he's got the folliwng year when we will probably need another corner with Henry most likely gone, besides most of our roster is already set in stone and I don't think a 7th rounder has a shot in hell at making our team anyway!

So here's our HAUL!

W.R. Malcolm Kelly
R.B. Felix Jones
W.R. Mario Manningham
C.B. Charles Godfrey
C.B. Zach Bowman
C./G. Fernando Velasco
C.B. Jake Ikegwounu

Gives us TWO good corners we need, and a 3rd we put in IR for a year who should of been a 1st rounder if not for his injury, we get the backup C./G. that we are gonna need, and of course we add not ONE, not TWO, but THREE "WOW" players on offense!
We'd have ALL our offensive skill position players in place for Romo's entire career, so for the next 7 years, all we need to do in the draft and F/A is add O-lineman and DEFENSE!

Thoughts?
I'd absolutely LOVE if the draft fell like this, it would make our offense UNSTOPPABLE, give us two good corners we need, and we'd be SET on offense for Romo's entire career other than a few O-lineman here and there!
Go ahead, pick it apart or say it with me, HOLY SH#T, I'd do backflips for WEEKS if the draft went like this!

So you're only going to draft for 3 positions in a 7 round draft? Not sure that's a good idea.

You also rely far too much on combine numbers as to where you rank your players.

YES, considering we don't have many NEEDS other than R.B/W.R./C.B., I will use most of my draft picks to improve our weakest positions!!!!!!
Most every other position on our team is SET IN STONE and dont' know if drafting another position would be wise since I dont' think they'd make the team considering we're set for the most part at every other position on our team including backups with the excpeption being R.B./W.R./C.B., so YES, I will use all my picks on 3 positions, actually 4!
Cause I got us a backup C./G. also!

REALLY?
Care to give me something more than that?
I mean, be more specific, please tell me which players I picked in each round who is a stretch of my imagination that the player won't be there!

Are the period and exclamation point buttons switched on your keyboard or something?

It's fine if you want to draft 3 CB's and 3 WR's in one draft, but no NFL team drafts that way, and there's probably a reason for that.

I'm NOT drafting 3 W.R.'s!
the 3rd C.B. is a 7th round GAMBLE, so I'm REALLY only drafting 2 C..b's and 2 W.R.'s!

No team does that?
Remember Philly a few years back drafting THREE D.B.'s with their top 3 picks?
BUT, like I said, I'm ESSENTIALLY only drafting 2 C.B.'s (which we NEED by the way), and 2 W.R.'s (both who will help out this year and beyond), and a R.B. which we need, and a backup C./G. which we need!

Lets look at our roster!
Q.B. Romo/Johnson (could we draft a 3rd Q.B., sure, but not neccessary)

R.B. Barber (we NEED another R.B. hence FELIX JONES)

T.E Witten/Fasano/
NO NEED AT ALL, would be a WASTED PICK to draft a T.E.

W.R. T.O.
W.R. (NEED a top future #1 W.R. hence Malcolm Kelly
W.R. Patrick Crayton
W.R. Sam Hurd
W.R. We STILL NEED a SPEED GUY, and HENCE manningham despite his 40 time IS a deep threat

O.T. Flozell Adams/Doug Free
O.T. Marc Columbo/James Marten

NO NEED AT ALL and we will NOT be drafting an O.T., would be a WASTED PICK to select an O.T.!

O.G. Kyle Kosier/Pat McQuistan
O.G. Leonard Davis
C. Andre Gurode

We also have Berger and Proctor, Not much of a NEED other than a backup Center/Guard HENCE Fernando Velasco!

SO, other than 2 W.R.'s Kelly and Manningham and R.B. Felix Jones and backup Center/Guard, do you see ANY OTHER POSITION that we NEED to take?????????????
NO, so it wouldn't be a BAD THING to select two W.R.'s and a R.B. and a backup C./g. since BASICALLY any other position we drafted probably wouldn't make the team since we're SET at every other position.

DEFENSE:
D-line!
Spears/Canty/Tank/Ratliff/Hatcher/Bowen

That's 6, and most likely we're only gonna keep 6 D-lineman, so not much of a NEED, could we use another one to push Bowen, perhaps, but CERTAINLY not a NEED and a MUST DRAFT!

I.L.B.
Bradie James
Zach Thomas
Kevin Burnett
Bobby Carpenter
Akin Ayodelle

We're only keeping 4 I.L.B.'s, drafting an I.L.B. would be a WASTE of a draft pick!

O.L.B.
Greg Ellis/Carpenter
Demarcus Ware/Anthony Spencer

could we possibly use another O.L.B. pass rusher?
Sure, coudl always use more, but when we got Ellis/Ware/Spencer, not really any much of a need at all!

C.B.
Henry/ Lost Reeves, HENCE Godfrey
Newman/Need more backups HENCE Bowman

Safety

Hamlin/Pat Watkins
Roy Williams/Keith Davis

SO, as you can see, EVERY OTHER POSITION is basically SPOKEN FOR and we really dont' have many holes at all, OTHER then needing more W.R.'s, a R.B., ,and more C.B.'s, and a backup Center/Guard, so THAT'S WHY I got us drafting those 4 positions!!!!!!!!!!!!

You wanna tell me WHICH POSITION we should SUBTRACT in MY DRAFT and plug in with another position of need?
Cause I just for the life of me can't see it!

I'm not going to tell you to take anything out, it's a mock draft on a fan forum. What difference do these things make?

I will say OLB is definitely a need, Carp is no OLB in this system and I doubt we go into the season with 5 ILBs.

Keith Davis is also a FA, so a safety that can also play special teams is a consideration.

But when you make a statement that it's stupid to draft 2 W.R.'s and 3 C.B.'s, and I come back with the way our roster is, it's not like have a NEED at any other positions that taking 2 W.R.'s and 3 C.B.'s (really 2) isn't the worst thing in the world and actually DOES make sense the way our roster currently is.

I will say OLB is definitely a need, Carp is no OLB in this system and I doubt we go into the season with 5 ILBs.

Carpenter is the backujp to all the L.B. positions since he can play them all.
I have already said that we won't go into the seaosn with 5 I.L.B.'s which is why I feel Ayodelle's days are all but numbered.
As for O.L.B., we have Ellis and Ware starting and Spencer can backup either of those, so while we probably would like to have ONE MORE O.L.B., it's not a MUST HAVE or a MUST DRAFT.

Keith Davis is also a FA, so a safety that can also play special teams is a consideration.

All safeties can play special teams, at least they should anyway.
If Davis leaves, we would still have Watkins as a backup along with Courtney Brown who I like a little bit.

My point was that drafting 2 W.R.'s and 3 C.B.'s a R.B. and a backup C./G. ONLY in the draft isn't a bad thing at all since most every other position on the team INCLUDING BACKUPS is pretty much FILLED and drafting someone at another position JUST TO DRAFT SOMEONE to SPREAD out the draft picks to different positions just BECAUSE would not be a smart move.
Cause like I said, what's the point in drafting an I.L.B. when we know he wont' make the team, or an O.T. when we know he won't make the team, or a T.E. when we know he won't make the team, etc.
We already have good starters at those positions AND very good backups at those positions as well, so picking up one of those positions just BECAUSE it looks like a bad idea to draft 3 C.B.'s isn't really good draft sense if you ask me!

I think we have room to draft OT, ILB and DL because Columbo, Carpenter, Ayodele and Spears are all candidates to be traded - likely after the draft, though.

Why would we trade Columbo????????

Carpenter,

Carpenter won't be traded cause he'd cost us a 3 million dollar cap hit if we traded him, so he isnt' going anywhere.

EVEN with Ayodelle gone, we're only gonna keep 4 I.L.B.'s, and since we can't trade Carpenter because of his 3 mil cap hit, and we're not getting rid of Burnett, that leaves NO ROOM for any I.L.B. with Thomas/James/Burnett/Carpenter at I.L.B. even when we get rid of Ayodelle there's STILL NO ROOM for another I.L.B., so drafting an I.L.b. would be a WASTE OF A PICK!

and Spears are all candidates to be traded - likely after the draft, though.

Spears has a possibility of getting traded, but he is a HUGE HELP against the run, even though he gives nothing for the pass rush, he is a force agaisnt the run, and not sure we'll trade him, but I don't know if you go into the draft with the idea of drafting a lineman and then HOPE you trade one of yours away after the draft.

Bottom line these positions arent' a MUST HAVE or a NEED pick that we can spend all our picks on R.B./W.R./C.B./C./G.
and not really have to draft any other position since most every other position is pretty much set in stone anyway.

Calm down, calm down. No one is going to hurt you for having differing opinions on what should or shouldn't be drafted.

The amount of caps used around here lately tells me the stress levels are going up. Must be the offseason. :)
