but I wonder if anyone else would like to see what Capers - assuming he's fired - could do with this Cowboys D.

I'm not as down on Zimmer as some here are, but I think it would be nice to see a great DC, with extensive experience in the 3-4, have a turn with the talent the Cowboys have on D.

Not sure if Capers and Parcells could co-exist, but I think another solid FA period and draft, with Capers at the helm, would make this a dominant defense.

If I was going to want the Cowboys to do something along these lines... I'd wish for Haslett from N.O. to be our defensive coordinator.

Unless I'm remembering wrong, he was the Pittsburgh defensive coordinator for Cowher before he became head coach at N.O. He ran a very aggressive 3-4 there in Pitt and did it well enough to get a head coaching job.

that may be an idea, but how about we stick with Zimmer? he's already showing us that all he needs is talent to run a successful D, same deal for Haslett, he had talent on his Pittsburgh D, but look at him coaching in 'nawlins, they dont' have much talent outside of the Dline, and the D's performance of late, has been awful, remember last year?

My problem w/wanting these so-called defensive gurus is that if that is supposed to be their specialty, then why is it the defenses they run as HCs have been mediocre to bad every year, they've been HCs.

In two years, Lovie has the Bears top-rated in the league. That's his specialty, so I'm not surprised.

It's when u got defensive gurus like Haslett, and Capers take on HC positions and their defenses suck, but people still want them to run the Cowboys D makes me scratch my head.

It better be somebody's, 75. Every week we start up the 'must win' chant, but this is the first time it's felt like one to me this season.

My crystal ball sees a big day for my boy Chris Canty.

This defense has so much talent it can even make Mike Zimmer look good. Now for this defense to show how good it REALLY CAN BE...well we need a DC who knows what he is doing and actually can make blitzes work and not be so easy to read that even the grandparents can read them coming.

We get a creative DC in here who knows how to use this talent right and we will have a D that is just mad violent. When we get that DC and hopefully it is after this year THEN people will see what HollywoodHenderson me and a few others have seen all along.

I'd rather call you 'right', after Sunday's game...when Zim pulls out his new blitz schemes and multiple fronts that have Eli wishing he had signed with San Diego. :D

It worked for Gregg Williams. He was a good DC with the Titans, then went to Buffalo and talked a mean game but his defenses stunk and now he's back at DC with the skins and having success.

I see your point, though. It seems there are a lot of good DC's that get head coaching jobs and then their defenses stink.

Top 5 is a nice number but I have yet to see this uhhhmmm TOP 5 defense even come close to putting the same kind of pressure on QBs and RBs like the #8 ranked Colts Defense did to the Steelers.

The dif is that the Colts have a real DC who knows how to use their talent best. We do not. our D is good cuz of how much talent is on it and that is it.

Me and your are of like mind when it comes to this subject.

This defense is explosive and very talented. Zimmer just lacks creativity when trying to confuse the quarterback. It's either all out blitz or play weak zone coverages.

I really liked the way Denver's DC called the game. He blitzed, he mixed up his coverages even having DEs play zones and cover inside receivers all in an effort to mix things up and cause confusion.

Zimmer's is a pretty good DC, I am just like Parcells, always looking for something better at every position, including the Coaching Staff.

I really would love to see the aggressive Zimmer of 2003 New England Game and before come back.

His late fourth quarter with a lead game calling is what really concerns me.

Actually Williams always had a decent defense in Buffalo, his offenses stunk for the better part of his tenure... average running game, average WR corp, average QB, average O-line, along with suspect play-calling. But his defenses always showed up. I respect his defensive knowledge, even tho the Skins are stinking up the joint right now...

on the flip side, it's the same thing w/offensive gurus. U got folks who want Mike Martz. But his protection schemes will have Kurt Warner and Marc Bulger having flashbacks after bumping into someone in a hallway.
