Actually Williams always had a decent defense in Buffalo, his offenses stunk for the better part of his tenure... average running game, average WR corp, average QB, average O-line, along with suspect play-calling. But his defenses always showed up. I respect his defensive knowledge, even tho the Skins are stinking up the joint right now...

on the flip side, it's the same thing w/offensive gurus. U got folks who want Mike Martz. But his protection schemes will have Kurt Warner and Marc Bulger having flashbacks after bumping into someone in a hallway.

I really like what Gregg Williams brings to the table and was disappointed we couldnt go after him because I beleive that year Zimmer got his raise.

Williams had Matt Bowen looking like a bona fide pro bowl blitzer in his schemes last year.

In yardage allowed I guess they were okay, but if you look at big plays, sacks and turnovers, they were very bad, among the worst in the league. And that was supposed to be his MO coming in.

Williams did a very good job last year and early this year, but the skins defense is in the bottom of the league with turnovers and sacks now I believe.

I think Zim has done a pretty good job this year. I think there are guys out there doing more with less. I can't complain much about our defense. It's been what's kept us in games most of the year and keeps getting better. I think we're one or two players away on D from being very scary.
I will add the critique though that our blitzes suck. We often get just as much, or little as some would say, on the QB as when we don't blitz. When teams blitz us, we can hardly ever pick it up and get it blocked. When we blitz, the QB still always has at least a few good looks downfield. I think when we blitz, the QB shouldn't finish a 5 step drop before he gets a guy in his face. but that's my crazy opinion

If I was going to want the Cowboys to do something along these lines... I'd wish for Haslett from N.O. to be our defensive coordinator.

Unless I'm remembering wrong, he was the Pittsburgh defensive coordinator for Cowher before he became head coach at N.O. He ran a very aggressive 3-4 there in Pitt and did it well enough to get a head coaching job.

Yep, you are exactly right **. I would love to get Haslett in here as the DC if he is released. My prayer this season has been that Zimmer will do a good enough job to be offered a HC job somewhere ad he takes it this time (he turned down the Nebraska job a couple of years ago much to my chagrin).
