First, if you're not saying Dak's career hasn't been as successful, then stop pointing out that Brady took advantage of cupcakes or expect the same to be said of Dak (this is, of course, if you said this. I'm reading and responding to several posters so forgive me if I'm getting you confused with someone else).
Second, stop saying "they could still win with Dak." There's no way that you can prove that.
Third, one man's "double standard" is another man's "context." Whether we like it or not, quarterbacks are judged based on post-season success. Was Eli Manning a better quarterback than Romo? Some say "yes," others "no," even though Eli had the longer career and better statistics. But where Eli and Romo are judged is based on post-season success, and if using that as a standard, Eli is, well, a Hall of Fame candidate and Romo, not so much.
Where stats enter the picture is when a quarterback hasn't reach the Super Bowl yet their performance is heads-and-shoulders above their peers year after year. Such is the case with Dan Marino (who played in a Super Bowl, by the way) and Dan Fouts (who played in a championship game). Their numbers were so clearly superior to the competition year in and year out that they are consider top quarterbacks even if neither won a Super Bowl.
As you said yourself, Dak ranks somewhere in the 10-15 range of current QBs. I don't disagree. Even so, that isn't winning him any arguments worthy of comparing him to Mahomes. Using a top-tier quarterback like Mahomes to compare with Dak brings out predictable rebuttals because it's pretty obvious what fans are trying to do ... put him in the ranks of the elite quarterbacks when he is not. Otherwise, why compare him with Mahomes?
Fourth, yes, football is a team game. So then tell me why you and others are compelled to cite Dak's stats? Did Dak produce those 400 yards by himself? Where is the offensive line's credit? Where is the receiver's credit? We play the "it's a team game" when it suits our purpose. When Dak puts up a 400 yard, 5TDs game against the likes of the Atlanta Falcons and the NY Giants, his "supporters" don't run to this forum and say, "You see that vicious block La 'el Collins laid to give Dak enough time to complete that pass?" or "That Amari Cooper must have glue on his hands because if he didn't catch it, Dak wouldn't have had a touchdown?"
No, rather, they say, "What are the haters going to say about Dak now?" And the endless posts are made about how Dak is a great quarterback, elite, etc.
But I thought this was a
TEAM game.
If it's a
team game, then no one should get the credit or
EVERYONE should get credit
EQUALLY when a team scores on offense.
But you know as well as I do that's not how it works. The
QUARTERBACK gets the bulk of the praise and the bulk of the criticism. Is it fair?
No. But we fall into that unfairness too, hence the incessant criticism and defense of one Rayne Dakota Prescott using ... STATS.
