I'm officially on GROZ...

I don't think it's silly to desire a better schemed defense. On the few occasions we've seen it this year, it's worked.
precisely. It's not as if GROZ is comprised of a bunch of raving lunatics. Most of us just desire a change in defensive scheme. The mystery though, is who's responsible Zimmer or Parcells.

It's Dweedle Dee and Dweedle Dum, imo.

Bend don't break and read and react is Bill's leitmotif.

Do you think then, that hiring a Rex Ryan type would not change things much if Bill returns?

My problem with GROZ is that I don't know if it's Zimmer or if it's Parcells that is the problem. Obviously there's a problem, and a lot of them tend to be "characteristics" of Parcells. Still, I just don't know who to blame.

that's a good point. What I think we all agree on is that SOMETHING about the coaching of the defense needs to change.
I think we can agree on these defensive points:
1) we aren't very good at developing talent, esp passrushers (Ware the exclusion)
2) we do NOT consistently put our players in positions to succeed
3) We cannot, nor have we ever, been effective at rushing the passer (at least since '95)
4) We cannot, absolutely cannot, blitz anyone effectively. Its amazing that we'll send 8 and all 8 will get blocked by 5....amazing!
5) We usually look, save the Colts game, inadequately prepared for the game and we're always tricked by a few wrinkles
6) we have no heart and/or the player leadership isn't where it needs to be

I doubt any coach 'new' to Bill will instantaneously get as much leeway as it will take to influence him much. It takes time to build up the trust, as Payton did and Sparano has done. And I doubt Bill will just turn over, in what will likely be his last year coaching, his beloved D to a coordinator with a different defensive philosophy, or even one who favors considerably more blitzing.

"You live by the blitz, you die by the blitz". Another (in)famous Tunaism.

Nah, I don't see a Ryan type even getting hired, much less changing things much.

And for those who have mentioned Groh if he got canned at Virginia.... please, he was a savvy linebackers coach, but a dismal coordinator (in name only in NE under Tuna) and a worse HC. A total Parcells stooge. I'd like to see him coach the backers, for sure, but he Peter Principles out in the pros at that level - positions coach.

Best chance for us next year is some lightening bolt simultaneously striking Bill AND Zim.

Or canning 'em both. :)

Thats exactly how I'm feeling right now. And the problem is, a change isn't always for the better. Lets say neither Zimmer nor Parcells are here next year, whoever replaces them isn't guaranteed to be better as hard as that sounds right now.

I'll take my chances...at least there is hope then

there is no hope with staying as is

Against my better judgment and sense of fairness, I'm about to apply for GROZ membership as well.

I'm not as enamoured of the overall defensive 'talent' as some are, but DARN, Bill and Zim should be at least as far along on the installation/ assignment, and 'trust' 3-4 levels as Mangini is in NY in his first year of the new scheme. And there darn well is more defensive talent in Dallas than in NY.
Ugh. zim would look like a genius if we had the Jets powerhouse schedule where you get 3 wins before the season starts (vs mia/buf take your pick).

Sun 9/10 at Tennessee W 23-16
Sun 9/17 New England L 17-24
Sun 9/24 at Buffalo W 28-20
Sun 10/1 Indianapolis L 28-31
Sun 10/8 at Jacksonville L 0-41
Sun 10/15 Miami W 20-17
Sun 10/22 Detroit W 31-24
Sun 10/29 at Cleveland L 13-20
Sun 11/12 at New England W 17-14
Sun 11/19 Chicago L 0-10
Sun 11/26 Houston W 26-11
Sun 12/3 at Green Bay W 38-10
Sun 12/10 Buffalo L 13-31
Sun 12/17 at Minnesota W 26-13
Mon 12/25 at Miami W 13-10

Oh man...that's just asking for a photoshop big time. Six bubbles...I can see Parcells, Zimmer, James, Watkins, Davis, and the sixth I guess would be whatever defensive player I was b******* about that week.

I was thinking the same thing

only I'd have Parcells, Zimmer, Sporano, Rogers, Pasqualoni & Brown

I'm a little shocked at you advocating( even half jokingly) Tuna's dismissal. So here's another scenario. If Bill is not here next year, who would you like to see as our new head honcho?

I would LOVE Jeff Fisher. But sadly, I doubt he's available.

Thanks, Vince Young.

yeah, that did it. :)

JF is a legit contender for Coach of The Year. Youngest team in the league, cap losses galore for a few years now, and coming back from what? 0h-and-five to .500?

I think most of those early losses, tho, were pretty close ones. JF was teaching them well.

Great job, Jeff.

Zimmer, IMO cannot get it done as our defensive coordinator after seven years. His best years have been above average at best. Then he's had seasons like in 2000, 2004 and the latter part of this season. It's not for any lack of talent on the defensive side. Hell we've invested so much time and money on the defense, that combined with the emergence of Romo Braber, Witten etc.. over the past few years we have a very talented team, period. One that IMO, should be better than 9-6 at this point. It's the defense that can't get off the field and allow our ofense to set the tempo of the game.

Zimmer has to go.

As for Parcells, I think he gets another year with a new DC. Bill has done a tremendous job in rebuilding this franchise to the point where we perennially contend for a playoff berth. If he can't get us to the next level, though then we need to look for a more viable replacement. I'm willing to give him 2007.

When the last second ran from the clock on Christmas day I was officially on GROZ.

I wished that we'd let Nebraska take his sorry *** three years ago. If he stays we can clone Lawrence Taylor, Richard Dent and Ronnie Lott and add them to our defense and it will not matter...we will get the same result with Captain Moron coordinating our defense.
