I think the guy fits perfectly here. He went and asked for a trade from KC and when asked where he wanted to go he said a team that played the 3-4.

He is a bigger linebacker and he has the skills to rush the passer.

In the 4-3 scheme he got 4.5 sacks last year and 4 sacks the year before that.

Singleton has never gotten more than 1 sack in a season in his career. Coakley never got more than 2.5 sacks in a season and hadn't gotten more than 1 sack in a season since 1998. Nguyen has never gotten more than 2 sacks in a season and he has only done that once in his career.

Now, all of those guys played in the 4-3 where linebackers usually don't get as many sacks. But that is what Fujita has played in too and he has gotten 8.5 sacks in the last two years!

I believe he will be able to effectively rush the passer and still be able to cover.

He was the leading tackler in the KC defense for the last two years (I believe). So he has racked up a lot of sacks (for a 4-3 lineback) and a lot of tackles on a team that didn't have many good defensive weapons. Thus, you got to think teams were looking at him but he still produced.

I think he will quickly replace Singleton as the starter on the outside. Ware will start on the other side and then I think Burnet will start to really compete against James for the starting position next to Nguyen. But the good thing about Burnett is that he can start on multiple positions.

Fujita is still very young. He has a lot of promise and this is the first time he will get to show his skills off as a pass rusher. He believes he fits well in the 3-4 scheme and I think he is right.

I think we got a great, young player and I'm really excited with our linebackers right now.

Whcarm, I gotta admit, I think this guy might surprise, as well. It's a little disappointing that it may prevent Burnett from playing as much out there, but I'm not too worried since Parcells wondered aloud that Burnett may end up moving inside eventually anyway.

I'd be surprised if Fujita isn't starting in a matter of weeks. The only shame in this acquisition is that he was acquired so late, the team will likely not entirely begin benefitting until midseason.

A star in the making? Hardly. But he seems to be a high quality player, which I'm not sure can be said for Al Singleton as a 3-4 'backer.

I still sit here in awe over the off-season the Cowboys have had. I'm still not convinced *this* is the Cowboys' season, because all the new faces, I assume, will take a little time working together. But, wow, it's amazing how much the talent level has improved in just one season.

I concur with your thougts about Fujita and the team. It's hard not to be excited. Of course, if Dallas lays an egg on Sunday the sky will fall. :)

I think Burnett will find his way onto the field.

And I don't think Fujita is going to become the next Suggs or anything, but if he can learn the defense and work his way onto the field in the first couple of weeks then I really think the guy could get around 7-10 sacks.

We just need Fuji to be Carl Banks or maybe just Clark Haggans.

We've set ourself up with some nice LB's...Ware and Fujita on the outside. James Dat and Burnett(probably) on the middle. Dat isn't getting any younger, although I think he's got some good years left...but if you want prolonged success in the NFL, you have to have depth.

I wonder if he will be active for the SD game given he has had no time to learn anything. I gotta believe its harder for him to come in and contribute right away than Price, receivers run the same routes but a 4-3 guy coming in to learn the 3-4 has responsibilites to learn.
Short term (first three weeks)you hope he can contribute on special teams and spell Singleton for a play or series.
After that I hope we can work him into to some of our defensive packages as Parcells and Zimmer can introduce more once the rookies are done getting the feet wet.

I saw him a couple of times last season on Sunday Ticket and he is solid even if not spectacular. Someone on another board told me he is pretty much useless but that is not the way I recall him.

When I first heard his name, I figured he was Japanese but lo and behold, he is white and was adopted by a Japanese family.

Wierd, I thought he was hispanic when I first heard of him. But that's cuz Fujita sounds/looks so much like "Fajita".

Hope he is healthy, can't wait to see him on the field. Did he practice today?

Not sure, but I assume he did since we just signed Pyle today and he was already practicing.

That's funny. I thought he was cauciblasian.

Does this mean that I have to take away his "Ghetto Pass"?

Fujita also had 8 QB pressures to go along with his 4.5 sacks last year.

Sporting News Outside Linebacker Rankings and Scouting Report.

Ranked 18th: ahead of players like: Steve Foley, Ian Gold, Shawn Barber(go figure), Will Witherspoon.

Strength: Is a solid take-on palyer who gets solid initial pop on contact. Has the long arms to take on and shed blockers. Can penetrate and hit the gaps and does a nice job of rerouting te’s. Has solid speed off the edge and is an effective blitzer.

Weakness: Occasionally gets out of control and will overrun tackles in pursuit. Looks awkward in space, isn’t agile and doesn’t protect his legs well in line. Can be slow to read in run support. Durability is a concern .

Bottom line: Fujita is recovering from offseason ankle surgery but has upside. He generates an effective pass rush and plays the run well.

Grade: 7.4

Isn't he a converted DE?
I read that he started his college career as a free safety, but was quickly moved to OLB.

Not that it matters a whole lot, but Fujita's name is pronounced as "who-jee-ta". The Japanese pronounce the "F" as an "H" in this case.
