Not that it matters a whole lot, but Fujita's name is pronounced as "who-jee-ta". The Japanese pronounce the "F" as an "H" in this case.

According to the Chiefs and the NFL, it's pronounced as an "F."

I coldnt agree more about Fujita........now we as board member have to give him a nickname like every other player, a shortened version of his name........Fuji.......lol.....fits with JuJo, DrewB, Hensunk, Berry-O, lol, this is fun....anyway, I have always like Fujita, I think he will fit very nicely. I dont know what kind of speed he has (I'll have to look on Madden, lol), but I know he is very strong......Speed on on side strength on the other, not bad, BP......not bad.......lol

Didn't mean to p*** on your parade, was just passing on how the name is pronounced by his family.

So you know how it's pronounced by his family, or are you just guessing?

Didn't Parcells say early in camp that he was going to have to move Dat to the weak side ILB, which was not the one he wanted initially??? Someone can clarify if you remember the comments, but the point is that Dat is having to play the ILB position that gets the majority of the tackles ala Ray Lewis posistion.

I wonder if he's thinking he will move Burnett there next year and put Dat to the SILB...Burnett is more of a playmaking LB, so maybe that's the long term goal of BP. Moving James to a back up to Dat, and Shanle or Fowler to back up Burnett...

To your point:

Per KC's website

Full name: Scott Anthony Fujita (pronounced Foo-GEE-ta).

The mix up may be this. Scott is not Japanese. I found this article on ESPN.

Fujita emerging star for Chiefs
If Scott Fujita keeps playing like this, word may finally get around that Kansas City's emerging star is not Japanese.

Dough Boy, you are correct in that Fujita is not Japanese. However, his adoptive parents are. It really doesn't matter a whole lot...sorry to stir anyone up. Won't happen again!

His adoptive father is Japanese-American (his mother is white). So Fujita is a Japanese name, but that doesn't mean his family pronounces its last name the traditional Japanese way. Many people (inlcuding me) use "Americanized" pronunciations of their last names, regardless of how it's pronounced in the country of its origin. So unless LandryFan knows Scott Fujita's family personally, to claim that he knows how Scott Fujita's family pronounces its own last name is a bit presumptuous.

The NFL, the Chiefs and now the Cowboys ALL say it's pronounced with a "Foo." So if he was saying his own last name starting with a "Hoo," you'd think someone would have noticed by now. Or you'd think he'd have corrected SOMEBODY by now, especially considering that he identifies himself with the Japanese.

Adam, you are absolutely correct! I do not know his family personally. They may very well pronounce with an "F", as you say. Thanks for setting me straight!

Well, at least everyone seems to know how to spell it. People still can't spell Witten and Nguyen right.
