I'm so livid about play calling

Honestly? I think it was to get Rico going and get his confidence up. That's my theory. I hope that's not the case because that is poor timing to try and get someones confidence up.

Frankly, I hate those plays where the coaches get cute. Just like that play action where Dak kept it and we pulled everyone to the right. It fooled no one.

If we want to be like the Ram's offense then get the ball to their best players or scheme a guy open. Surely, that was Garrett/Linehan trying to get cute. Maybe they think coaching is like playging Madden?

Yeah Yeah Yeah Dallas won the game.

However,
1) The Cowboys have a 2nd and Goal at the 4 yard line. Dallas is up by 3 with about 6 minutes to play.
2) Ezekiel Elliott have rushed for over 130 yards.
3) You have a mobile QB that has had success with the RPO.
4) The offense has TWO SHOTS to score from 4 yards out.

What does Garrett and Linehan do?
1) A terrible pass in the end zone to Swaim that gets tipped and lucky it was not picked off.
2) A BLEEPIN FADE TO A BASKETBALL PLAYER WHO WAS NEVER IN THE RHYTHM OF THE GAME AND THE BALL IS THREE FEET BEYOND HIS REACH!!!

ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!!
ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!!???

We all knew that Stafford was going to drive right down and score.

It is not just that.

It is drop by Austin in the end zone. That is a 4 point swing.
The block in the back by Elliott led to a Prescott sack taking away another 3 points.

Dallas left 11 points on the field

But, as teams "good" teams are supposed to do, they came back and won. I am not saying we are good, but it is nice to celebrate a win and see Zeke be a monster and Dak actually look like he might be able to play.

How is Gathers supposed to learn how to get those passes if he doesn't get them thrown to him in the game? And it wasn't 3 feet over his head, he didn't time his jump right, and didn't properly fight off the defender. Those things can be learned, though I would be in agreement with anybody who says he should have learned them by now.

I'm more upset with the run defense, too many times there were gaping holes for the running back to scoot through, that has to be tightened up, but I do have some hope they can do that, LVE was a bit late to the party on one of the td runs, and Heath had to hit the back, who was running straight ahead, at an angle, reducing his effectiveness on the same play. Those are technique things, the fact that Heath was in position to make the tackle and LVE could have been is encouraging.

But the J. Smith experiment is a failure, imo, he makes a good play here and there but he doesn't have the awareness and play recognition he needs, that should have been developed in college for the most part, and fine tuned in the NFL, I'm afraid he doesn't have that aspect of his game and can't rely on pure physical ability like he did in college. Of course losing Woods hurt, he's the best big body they have on the d-line...

Look, we won. You think detroit isn't saying they left points on the field or made mistakes?

Well, the primary problem with a guy trying to play NFL football for the first time since junior high is the physicality of the game. Rico is a big dude, but he got manhandled by the DB. There is no question he can catch the ball when he's open, but TE's usually have to fight through somebody to get open.

Swaim was open though.
For some weird reason when it comes to CowboysZone that has no bearing whatsoever on whether it was a good play call or not.

All playcalling is judged soley on the results of the play.

Gaping holes is what happens when your DLine if focused on slashers.

Yes, overall, the playcalling was actually better than usual, but that was the SAME **** that gets us beat! Lucky for Garrett, we won. It's the SAME **** he did against Green Bay! You RUN the bloody ball! They can't bloody stop the ground, and it's why I'm worried about Sunday's game. Living in Houston, I've felt the wrath of Texans fans who, for some of them, can make Eagles fans seem tame. The last thing we need against them is **** playcalling. What the bloody hell was the point in getting Zeke at 4 if we're not going to use him in those sorts of situations?

That was a very dumb call. Just play straight up smash mouth football for god sake. I hate how this coaching staff put in these dumb plays that fools no one. Thats on Garrett and Linehan. Just make it simple stupid.

Exactly! Sometimes, the way to beat a team is really the simplest way, especially when we have the players to do it! We have the players to play smashmouth football. It's really as easy in the redzone as just telling Dak to hand the ball to Zeke. I'm tired of seeing Garrett and Linehan call bloody passing plays CONSISTENTLY in the red zone. Run the bloody ball until they stop us, THEN pass. We're going to NEED Zeke on Sunday, and God help us in Houston if we lose this bloody game.

This was one of the better games in terms of playcalling ive seen our coaches do

Yes, and I must credit them for a better than usual game plan and playcalling. With that being said, THAT sort of play calling with the pass to Gathers is how we'll end up losing to better teams than the Lions.
