Damn, I love this team.I grew up watching them destroy the NFL with my dad and uncles in the late 70's and early 80's.Then I became a huge fan in the 80's during the bad years. The 90's sure were great. Then Romo came along hate him or love him he is sure fun fun to watch and gives the Boys a chance to win every week.

the 70's and early 80's were sweet!

i wish we had everson and michael in our secondary in today's league.

100 interceptions between those two.

You're only lucky to be a Cowboys fan if you got to enjoy the teams 20 consecutive winning seasons and all 5 SB wins. You're not very lucky if you've only been following the team since the late 90's early 2000's. I feel sorry for the fans who didn't get to enjoy the magic of Roger Staubach in the 70's or the breath taking runs of Tony Dorsett and the bone crushing tackles of Randy White that helped lead the Cowboys to 2 championships.

It's a shame some weren't around to enjoy the great 90's teams led by the triplets and relish the thrill of 3 championship seasons in 4 years. It's sad that some Cowboys fans haven't even experienced one championship season. The best some of you have witnessed with the Cowboys was during the 07 and 09 seasons.

Been there and watched Stauback , Calvin Hill, Duane Thomas, Walt Garrison, Bob Lilly, and all the greats. Always thankful I was a Cowboy fan.

I would respectfully disagree. I became a Cowboys fan in the late 1990s, when they went 8-8 in the 1999 season. The seasons after that were 5-11, 5-11, and 5-11.

First time I even saw the Cowboys have a winning season was the 2003 season.

Yet I consider myself lucky to be a Cowboys fan.

I grew up abroad in another country and was unable to watch Cowboys games on TV. There were times I would get up early in the morning to follow Cowboys games on NFL.com or on Yahoo Sports. I never actually watched a Cowboys game on TV until the 2005 season opener in San Diego which Dallas won, 28-24.

I have never seen the Cowboys in a Super Bowl - never even seen them appear in an NFC title game. In fact, the first time - and only time - I've seen the Cowboys even win a playoff game was that 2009 wild card 34-14 victory over the Eagles.

Yet I consider myself lucky as a fan. I never have to worry about the Cowboys relocating, as Vikings and Jaguars fans may worry. My favorite NFL team happens to be among the most popular in the nation, and fellow Cowboys fans can be found almost anywhere in the country. I know that the Cowboys will be featured on nationally-broadcasted TV games just about every season, which is important because I've lived in New York and Virginia for a long time..

Even though I never saw the Cowboys win a Super Bowl, it does give a sort of trump card in discussions with rival fans to be able to say that your team has 5 Super Bowl titles. That's more Super Bowl titles than 29 other teams in the league. I know that the Cowboys will be relevant for a long time to come. Even in mediocrity, they're still very much debated, discussed, liked and hated. I know I support a team that's been historically good for the most part - except for the time I've been able to see them play.

Still waiting to see the Cowboys appear in an NFC title game, let alone a Super Bowl. But I do consider myself to be a lucky Cowboys fan indeed.

If you grew up abroad in another country what turned you on to a fading Cowboys team in the late 90's? Most long-time Cowboy fans became fans because the Cowboys were winning every season and they were such an exciting team with Roger Staubach. You became a fan a few years too late.

I was born in Texas but moved abroad around the time the Cowboys' dynasty was on its way out. So my fandom is sort of a home-state loyalty, I guess. I actually didn't find out that they won Super Bowl 30 against the Steelers until I read about it several years later.

How about you, have you been a fan since the 1970s? I think Cowboys fans can generally be divided into three categories; those who have seen Dallas win 5 Super Bowls, those who have seen Dallas win 3 Super Bowls, and those who haven't seen them win any,

I became a Cowboys fan on January 16th 1972 the day the Cowboys beat Miami in SB VI. That was the first Cowboys game I ever watched. I grew up in Texas and my dad had been following the Cowboys ever since their inception in 1960. A carnival came to our area every SB weekend. My dad told me and my brother the only way he would take us to the carnival that year was is if the Cowboys won the game. He was still stinging from the year before when the Cowboys lost to the Colts in SB V.

My dad took Cowboy losses pretty hard and was in no mood for carnivals or anything else after a Cowboys loss. I had no interest watching football on TV at the time but wanting to go to the carnival I watched the game intently never dreaming that would be the beginning of a 40+ year love affair with the team.

I had one of these hanging above my crib that was hand signed by DD Lewis.

Whats even more awesome about it is that I was raised by a single young woman... Not a man in the house.

Very interesting! I think more than a few fans here on the Zone have pointed to Super Bowls V or VI as being the time they first really started watching the Cowboys.

Around 1970 you could sense the Cowboys were about to break through. By then they had made the playoffs 5 straight seasons and were starting to get really close. The fan base started growing. I think the bridesmaid/next years champion reputation had a lot of people pulling for them. After the Cowboys broke through in 71 with Staubach the Cowboys popularity took off.
