I'm struggling to get interested in this year's version of the Cowboys

That's why I hate preseason. We need the games, but no more than 3. It really affected how we got out the gate...rusty. I also expected the slow start. Young starters MUST get the reps in games.
The number of preseason games is irrelevant. People are only POed about them because they cost the same as reg season games. Which is stooopid. You must get the players some playing time to get ready.

This whole mess started when the CBA reduced the number of practices in pad to like 1 per week. That's why players are getting hurt to begin w/.

So, what the NFL is really doing is making the players soft. That's why so many are getting hurt in the preseason.

Unless you're being forced to pay full price for preseason tickets, hating the preseason is absolutely silly. Those are simply scrimmage games to get ready for the season.

Question: Exactly why do you hate preseason?

...to get interested in this year's version of the Cowboys. The offense is boring beyond belief. I wrote several times during the offseason that the passing game was suspect, but I held back judgment, hoping against hope that I would be proven wrong. I gave this staff the benefit of the doubt that they had a plan that would work.

...Yes, Elliott is the best RB in the NFL, but without a corresponding NFL caliber QB and receiver group, I feel like I'm back in the early 2000's.

I find myself much more interested in the emerging teams in Chicago and Cleveland than watching the team I've followed my entire life. I'm intrigued by the emergence of Patrick Mahomes in Kansas City. But the NFL as a whole is a lot more difficult to enjoy, with flags flying, quarterbacks unreasonably protected, and the defenses hamstrung by unreasonable rules to "protect" the players.

Throwing downfield is more exciting and more successful, as the winning teams are displaying this year. Run-centric teams are left in the dust. I agree: our offense, with a few exceptions this year, has been a dud...and a bore.

I get sunday enjoyment from things like Redzone (NFL Network), fantasy football, and sites like fanduel where you can put in a different weekly lineup each week....good times there - also, I am a HUGE Notre Dame fan and, like the Cowboys, never miss a second of their games - ND will likely jump to #5 this week and they will be favored going forward so they are REALLY interesting and fun to watch

but, I will ALWAYS be a Cowboy fanatic and watch every minute that I can watch (had no link for the game last week so watched the updates on my phone and PC and Redzone)

Well, in many recent seasons, the offseason is more interesting than the season. That's what brings me back. But I haven't watched a single regular season game this year. Not one. And I won't watch tonight. When the draft is more exciting than the games, what does that say about the NFL? Whatever it says, it says something about me. I've lost interest. It's time to admit it, and move on.

If you haven't noticed, my comments since the offseason ended are very, very few. So, I'll just say this about losing your enthusiasm as a fan: "It's a process..."

I'm well aware of the feeling. I made my grand opus on the other site and left for 2 years before straggling back here this season with false hope. I wish you all the best bro. I might not be far behind. It's already apparent I'll be dead before anything ever changes since we know JG is "Coach-for'Life." He's been anointed into the good ol' boy "forever club." Hell, Jerrah is so well-preserved with Johnny Walker I'll prob go before he does. At least I've got the memories of our Super Bowls under Tom Landry and Jimmy Johnson.

Best wishes.

May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind always be at your back
The sun shine warm upon your face
The rains fall softly upon your fields and,
Until we meet again
May God hold you in the palm of His hand. - Irish Blessing

But now, I find the prospect of watching the Cowboys incredibly tedious. There are a couple of interesting stories - Byron Jones emerging as a shutdown corner, the linebacking corps getting younger and better. But Sean Lee being injured is an old story by now. And the lack of talent at safety since the NFL changed the rules to castrate Roy Williams after 5 straight Pro Bowl seasons is also an old story. Yes, Elliott is the best RB in the NFL, but without a corresponding NFL caliber QB and receiver group, I feel like I'm back in the early 2000's.

I get more joy from watching the highlights after the fact than actually watching the games live. The politicization of the league makes the bile rise in my throat. What was the NFL and what was the Cowboys no longer remains. Only a soon to be dead carcass remains. It's time to find another outlet for my energy and time. What was once a joy now feels more like an obligation. And I'm tired of it.

I was going to start publishing my weekly Statistical Power Rankings again this past week (I typically start posting after the 4th week of the season, when there is enough data to actually get something reasonably accurate). But I just cannot muster up the motivation to take the time to enter the data into my program.

For those who remain, I hope you find joy in watching the Cowboys, and the NFL. Beyond a few moments here and there, the NFL has lost me. Sad.

(And yes, I know you don't care. But I needed to write this epilogue for myself. It's my final lamentation.)

Bring Romo back...and then it would make some sense to bring Dez in. Witten is failing as broadcaster and could be roped back in.

I guarantee you...it wouldn’t be boring with these 3. :)

Yeah let's bring back a QB who can't take a hit and will be injured right away. A TE who now runs 3 yard outs and falls down. And another guy who no one in the league views valuable enough to bring in. That trio netted us one single wild card win in their tenure together. Nothing but mediocrity with an outlier of a good season. Those were fun times!!

I second it...
Additionally, and at the risk of my 43 year fandom's loyalty level being questioned and my being called a hater, I can't even hardly watch this offense and most likely wont.

But...even with all that being said, its still "Go Cowboys" but with maybe a slight bit less enthusiasm as there used to be. Maybe a little more than slight actually.

They are a boring team to watch but they're still my only NFL team and if I have remained a fan despite the Jones family involvement for this long, what's another season?

However, I have noticed that I am no longer engaged or involved, I watch them play like a first year med student watching a science experiment. Now, should this first game with the Eagles or Skins actually mean something, I might find some of that old fire but I really do struggle to find players I like. I like to watch Elliott run but I don't like him and he's the best skill player on offense. I don't care for Beasley and Hurns suggesting it's not their fault, they're getting open. Shut up, just shut up. I don't like Lawrence's "put me on the cross" pose and ain't I something.

There was an "I got it" point several years back when Booger fired back to the media criticism with "let them put up 140M" and that really struck home with me. It is his, it is no longer part of me as it was for so many years. The Dallas Cowboys were my team, and yours, and yours and yours and...…. There was this feeling that is hard to describe to people that do not suffer from fanhood. They were my team and that was very important to me. That has lessened each season and it's not about the winning or losing, it's everything else.

I won't check out just yet because the Cowboys are not the reason I am here. They are important to be able to debate and discuss within this forum so I do watch them but if this site did not exist, or one like it with the same folks on it, I would already be gone. There was a time that I would glare at any one that would say "it's just a game" but it is just a game.

I don't give a damn about this season because I know I am gonna have some fun with you people and that's important. United by the same team but with so many differences.

And while this is borderline blasphemy, these fan forums are a hell of a lot more fun when they're losing. Sorry but that's the truth.

What took you so long Jumbo? I'll watch but I'm not emotional at all, I just analyze the game.

Soon as Jerry brought his old dogs back (excluding Marinelli) I knew the next season was trash, and was uninspired at that moment.

Yea, this is a ish show. Funny tho observing denial, excuses and lame justifications from ownership down to some fans.

NFL is slowly dying for those who can see.

I agree, I'm not emotional at all anymore. Losing use to ruin my week, not anymore. I barely care when we lose, simply because I know we are not good.

I usually find myself rooting for us to lose
Higher pick, steps closer to getting rid of Dak and JG.

I rather us lose at this point, we won't do **** unless half the leagues QBs all go down. This team is pathetic, no matter how hype some of you may feel after a win

Hold off bro. Let’s see if last week got this thang cranked up. Looked like the rookie season last week. The Defesne I thought let us down a little.

Let’s see if we start really putting it together tonight.

But I agree and think a lot of this falls on the staff for telling us there is a new exciting Offense coming and then marching out with the same thing that fell flat. If we come out and play a flat Offensive game tonight then I am going to be in the same boat with you. If so then I will bring beer.

But no matter what I still get the pregame jitters and can’t wait to see my team. It’s just after watching us do the same things I get depressed about it. But never giving up on my team.

Detroit is giving Green Bay the business this week so far. It makes our win against them look a bit better.

Out team is a bit slow to make adjustments in game planning, although to be fair it may be better than making knee jerk adjustments.

I quarter of the season is gone, we haven't played our best ball and yet we are at .500 tiedfor the division lead. We could start putting this thing g together and win this division. It's still way early.

If we end up winning the division it will undoubtably be because we are playing better ball. It's way too early to be writing off this season.

I still think this could be our year.

I am just as interested in this season as I am any other season. Was just as interested in 2015 as I was 2014 and 2016. Didn’t figure we would win in any of those seasons either but it didn’tose my interest.

Go hunting. Better yet, handload your own ammo. Ballistic coefficients. Sectional densities. Powder weights in grains. Chronographs. Compute your own bullet energies. Of course if the games good, watch it. If not, just get outside.
