I'm taking questions to ask Jerry at 12:05 pm today...Recap Post #41

Takeaways from the call:

1. Parnell is going to start at RT, and Free has the option to take a paycut to remain as the top backup or be released. That seemed to be Jerry's cryptic message.

2. Jerry says Kiffin told him our defensive line is a strength, and that he really needed more linebackers than linemen.

3. The team ran a lot of three tight end packages against Baltimore and want to do more of that with receiving threats from all three. He said that's what they wanted to do with Martellus Bennett "but it just didn't work out."

4. Jerry says Kiffen asked for young, instinctive safeties to work with, not seasoned veterans, and that safeties in this scheme didn't need to be rangy as much as they needed to be smart. Kiffin said the scheme provides them with the angles, and that they just have to be athletic enough to make the plays.

5. Jerry said there will be a lot of competition between Dwayne Harris and Terrance Williams, which is dumb because Harris is a slot and Williams is a wideout.

6. Jerry is all lathered up over Randle, and he did say that Lance Dunbar is going to play a very prominent role in the offense. (Sounds like Tanner might want to get his resume in order immediately.)

7. Jerry wanted us all to know that the trade value sheet was HIS creation, along with his buddy Mike McCoy, who HE told to devise it.

8. Three women asked questions: First wanted to know if we are interested in Tim Tebow, the second asked about drafting Johnny Manziel next year, and the third went on and on about how she met Jerry in Seattle years ago and how she's also a Trailblazers season-ticket holder. Not helping the stereotype, ladies. LOL

9. Jerry said Ratliff is not injury prone, then mentioned how he had three seperate injuries last year. LOL

10. No one asked about acquiring another offensive lineman in free agency, which is what I wanted to know.

Thanks for the recap, I honestly will feel better knowing Parnell is the starter, that means at least they are changing to the youth. Also, that they recognize that Free is not up to par anymore.

But if we pick up a Clabo, I still think he beats out Parnell.

I have a feeling out Safety play is going to surprise all of us, and our Defense as a whole. Kiffin will get more out of players and will make their jobs easier.

I was never a fan of Ryan, he tried to have too many complex packages and too many times, people did not know what personnel were supposed to be on the field. I hated looking so disorganized. I am not saying our D would not have been better without the injuries last year, but Ryan was not my favorite coach by far.

We played Dwayne Harris almost exclusively at the Z last year.

I agree with Jerry. One year of injuries (once you have one, it changes the way you work out and the way you move, often leading to others) does not make you injury prone.

I'm very interested to see how we use our safeties next year.

It sounds from this presser and other things that Jerry pays way too much attention to trying to get coaches what they want when they come here. And if it doesn't work, he says "well...I gave you what you wanted, where are the results?" As a GM, I really need your coaches to fit around where the value falls in terms of player acquisitions rather than try to fit what the coaches want. Coaches know how to coach and scheme, they do not understand the nuances of player valuation. That is the GM's job, and I think Jerry listens a little too much to all the input around him.

Safety and LB are the two areas where I expect to see young starters. If this defense is based on instinct and athleticism then I see no reason why Wilcox and Holloman can't push for starting jobs.

That's really interesting re: the safety position.

I was really down on the Wilcox pick, but perhaps he will get some playing time this year? That'd be great.

That's some great information. Wish our local reporters could get info like that.

If they believe Parnell can do the job then I'm on board. If Free is cut then I wonder who'll be the swing tackle?

I'm wondering the same thing. After the draft, I bought into the mantra floating around that Wilcox would need a year or so before he's ready to start. Now I'm curious to see if Kiffin would trust him early if he shows strong in TC.

It sounds like a pretty informative call. If true, it's nice to hear that Parnell is definitely ahead of Free on be depth chart now.

Thanks for the summary!

Maybe Cook is brought back? He can play all 5 positions I believe.

Jerry said that Parnell is the starter right now, with Free potentially staying to be the swing guy. If Free won't take the cut, he's history, and they likely bring in Clabo, IMHO. At that point, Clabo starts, and Parnell is the swing guy.

Cook is already under contract. In fact, he restructured his deal to help with salary cap space earlier in the offseason.

Can you post a picture of your draft board on Dallascowboys.com a day or so after the draft is over so fans can relive the draft experience with the team? The draft and it's discussions is just as big as fantasy football with many fans and it would add to the excitement and love of the game..

Thanks in advance....

I didn't hear him say that Parnell was the starter. I heard him say that Parnell would split the position with him to "help Free out".

There was no mention of Clabo or them bringing in any other player for the oline although I am sure they are looking into it. I don't get the feeling they are looking at Clabo or Winston though.

I'm pretty sure Jerry is senile already but if they keep Free on board, it will be 100% official.

Thats true. But Harris is better suited for the slot imo.

We went offense in Ryans first year. We went offense with Kiffin this year.

Well, which one is it:

Parnell is the starter right now?
Parnell is the starter?
Or Parnell will help Free out?

It is funny how 3 people heard 3 different things.

I hope number 1 is the real deal.

Read my post and note that I said it was a cryptic statement.

Jerry went on and on about Parnell, saying how much he's developed and he had the strongest first punch that some coaches had never seen. He said little about Free and nothing about a free agent.

Wait...what? What was the question asked and then what was his statement?

Why are so many of you so ready to see Parnell trot out there next year? New brooms sweep well I guess. I just don't trust this front office and coaching staff to identify what good linemen look like.

Same group that was annointing Free after half a season, look where he is now in fan perception.

You just invested 100 mil in a franchise QB, invest in a proven commodity like Clabo or Winston and use Parnell in a contingency role as the swing tackle.

C'mon Jerry you're killing me Smalls.

Here's my question, that JJ will never answer....We haven't done squat in 18 years..If it were to continue, how long would you let it go before you realized your way is not working?
