I think Jerry might really suprise us with this decision for a few different reasons.
First of all, I like Singletary and think he will be a good Coach for a long time, but I do get scared by the fact that he is not even being given an interview by his current team, for the team's open D-Coordinator job. Instead, guys like Campo are being brough in for interviews, even though Singletary has let it be known he is interested. That tends to make me shy away and I do believe his interview was more to satisfy the rule.
Here is the one that gets me. If Norv Turner is concerned with control, it might be the one thing that makes Jerry shy away from him. I'm all for Turner, but certainly I am not married to any idea, and will support whoever is hired, unlike many others.
What does that leave. It leaves the one guy that everyone has kind of dismissed in the last week. The one guy that certainly will not be in the mix for any player personnel control issues. That's right, Jason Garrett. It all adds up, especially if you add in the fact that Lacewell is coming back, probably to help with some of the personnel issues vacated by Parcells.
The kicker is this. If we hire Phillips or Turner, there is a good chance that Garrett will be hired away from us as early as next season, by someone like the Giants. There would be nothing we could do about it, and who could blame Garrett if he left. The only way we assure that Garrettt is here for the long term, is to make him our HC right now, and skip the Turner/Phillips step.
In a nutshell, the only way Garrett becomes the HC of this team in the near future, is if he is hired as the HC right now. If we wait, he will be gone by this time next year, especially after all the press he is getting about it.
That's why, in the end, I think he names Garrett HC on Monday or Tuesday.
