Let me follow up on the Aikman mobility thing, because this thing keeps getting thrown out there. People who must not have actually watched the guy play until he was later in his career want to imply that we DRAFTED an immoble QB, and that Aikman was a Bledsoe.
In Aikman's first year, 1989, he had 302 yards rushing on 38 attempts. That is 7.9 yards per attempt. There is no way you could get an immoble QB out on the run that many times, for that many yards, and at that average. In fact, in his rookie year they would PLAN QB draws for him.
That mobility didn't decrease until about 1995 . His rushing attempts and yards and average decreased because, as I said in an earlier post, he learned to read defenses, he had better protection, he STOPPED running so much. But the ability to move around in the pocket and get out on rolls was still there.
When Aikman began to look immoble, in my opinion, was 1995 and beyond. And to be honest I've even wondered if that 1994 playoff game against SF, when he played like a warrior in defeat, but got the stuffing knocked out of him in the process, might not have taken the largest toll on his back?
