I still think this defensive front seven needs another defensive end, a monster defensive tackle and another linebacker to get where they want to be....Durant is a huge loss.....ofcourse the back end needs two safeties and a shutdown corner

Assuming Hardy is Hardy, I would say our front seven right now is average. If (when) Lee goes down, it's back below average.

Let's revisit this after the draft.

I highly expect Mincey to NOT win that LDE spot. He was not winning the RDE spot. He got it by default when Lawrence got hurt. All reports out of camp were that Lawrence was out playing him. A second year Lawrence will beat out Mincey.

Mincey is more stout against the run which is necessary for the LDE. In either event, it is win-win. If Lawrence beats out Mincey or Mincey hangs on, we still have 3 very good to excellent DEs to rotate. Lawrence playing the Jim Jeffcoat role is not a bad thing, especially if he can produce like Jeffcoat.

I'd still like to see McClain resigned, but I'd like the idea of

RDE- Greg Hardy, Jeremy Mincey
3T- Tyronne Crawford, Michael Bennett (2nd round)
1T- Terrell McClain, Josh Brent, Ken Bishop
LDE- DeMarcus Lawrence, Anthony Spencer (or George Selvie), Ben Gardner

Face it a DT is a NEED pick in place of DE with Hardy aboard. We'll have to wait and see if the Front Office agrees.

I really don't know what the DL will be like. There are so many unknowns. Is Spencer back? What about Whaley, Okoye, and Gardner? Will McClain be a player? How about Brent not to mention Coleman, Bishop, Edwards and Boatright?

At least one or two of those total unknowns will possibly contribute. My eye is on Okoye although I don't expect a lot right away.

Right now I have:

DE: Spencer, Lawrence, Hardy, Mincey
DT: Brent, Crawford, Okoye, McClain

Obviously, Spencer is a question to sign. Hardy may be suspended. There will be injury(s) possibly. Brent and Okoye need time to reacclimate.

Two or even three of those could change esp with injury.

To say Mincey is very good to excellent is overrating his ability to a very large magnitude.

He is serviceable, but nothing special. An average to below average DE

As a rotational player however he is above average in that aspect. Especially after their OL gets tired from Hardy and Lawrence.

Mincey plays with great hustle and is very good against the run, average pass rusher but led our team with 6 sacks (also 39 QB pressures). And could be argued was the best 4-3 DE in playoffs. That said, the "excellent" was in reference to Greg Hardy. I was speaking about our rotation of 3 DEs after all.

That right there is the biggest roadblock to even make his signing a success.

I'm glad Hardy got signed but he wont have played a regular game in over a year so there is that.

It does take a bit to get back in the swing of things. If you are at a very high level then you must really work to get it back. He's too young not to be ABLE to get it back.

I just disagree that with DLaw and Mincey that makes our DE rotation excellent. You may be right, and the threat of Hardy on the opposite side allows both of them to have career years.

I think DLaw will continue to improve. While Mincey is servicable, I think he is going to come back down to earth next year. Same thing happened with George Selvie who they chose not to resign. I don't really agree with that however, but oh well.

good with Crawford and hardy. but Lawrence has to move to the LDE spot....and how effective will he be there. can he hold up on the strong side.

we still need a DT next to Crawford.

Lawrence was used both LDE, RDE, and just about everywhere. So can Hardy.

Brinkley and especially Gachkar will not affect Ro negotiations. One is a two down player and the other is a STer. Ro will be a Cowboy, he is still going to be available for a bargain due to the questions marks (off field & injuries) unless some team becomes desperate and offers crazy money, like 9ers or Raiders.

I doubt he he'll sign with the Raiders. Maybe the 9ers.

I'm going to give Selvie some slack, he fought a nagging injury all year and moreso he no longer had Demarcus Ware or Jason Hatcher.

I'd really hinges on Lawrence

If he developes into a real threat..the front 7 becomes dangerous...if he doesn't..the front 7 is still pretty bad

Ro is pure country. He absolutely despised playing/living in California, so much so that he told Raiders this before the draft but they still took him.
