Impact of Highest Paid Receivers

Nope, not even close.

So, Kenneth Murray sucks and always has, but that's the DC's fault? You're kinda all over the place here.
Kenneth Murray was the least of Eberflus problems. I won’t put that on him. Everyone on the defense regressed including Bland and Overshown and I’m sure people will use injuries as to why they did but it wasn’t physical limitations they genuinely looked lost at times.

And why didn't they do their job? Because they aren't talented. Why aren't they talented? Because there's only so much cap space to go around and spending huge chunks of it on just a few players doesn't work.

BTW, I'm not picking on the position, I'm saying paying any player 30-60 mil per season will affect your ability to win. Really simple math, dude, not seeing your cop out.
They aren’t not talented. They just aren’t worth what they are paying which happens. Every team has salary of guys who aren’t very good. But done team overcome isn’t based on drafting well.

The point I’m making is Bengals don’t suck because of Higgins and Chase contacts. They suck because of where they are allocating their funds and mismanagement of the cap. If they didn’t pay Higgins they would still have the same issues.

Hell they had the issues before they even paid Higgins and Chase.

I think they are going to have to be creative cap wise to rebuild fast enough to take advantage of where dak is at this point in his career.

They need 2 tier one fas on defense along with the 2 first round picks, plus a couple tier two guys to complete a quick defensive turn- that would be 6 new starters.

They do that and add an oline piece from a mid round and keep the rest of the offense in tact and they will be a very competitive team.

They are juat going to have to move money around and get creative or dak is going to age out before a rebuild is done
So what kind of impact has having the highest paid QB in NFL history had for the franchise?

I'm sure many of us wouldn't be as bothered by it if he was producing on Tom Brady or Mahomes levels, but that isn't the return Jerry is getting for his money so far.
That’s a bad contract too.

This threads about not paying Pickens are rationalizations at best, citing stats from all over the place, is not rocket surgery, tag him and play him, if he becomes a problem trade him.

But why in the Lord's name fans don't want a dominant playmaking player in the team? They talk about the Jones boys making stupid decisions, remember when they thought any WR could play alongside Mike Irvin, the likes of Jason Tucker, Billy Davis, Wayne MacGarity and Anthony Miller ring any bells?

What if CD is schemed out of the game? Or God forbid goes down for significant time?

You think you can beat playoff defenses like Seattle with one playmaking wideout and a traffic cone like Ferguson?

Hell, let's pay Jalen Tolbert instead and save a couple of bucks!

No, not even close. Murray was the most of Eber's problems.

Bland never could cover and Overshown never could stay on the field. So, Eber was left to deal w/ Jerry's horrific player mgmt.

Because we're not going to win w/o a D. Funny you mention rationalizing, because that's exactly what you're doing, rationalizing paying him!!!!!

Yet, Quinn and Zimmer got better out of the same guys. I hope I’m misreading these intentions. I hope I’m not seeing you give Eberflus the excuse of having the worst defense in the league?

Yes they are. We had 6 terrible starters on D. Because they are not talented in one way or another.

Your middle paragraph is contradictory. Paying WRs huge amounts is blatantly part of the problem. How are you proposing teams pay their WRs huge, and still form a good D? It's not happening. I've given you example after example, but you just keep trotting out this same old tired argument. You've basically said "NUH UH" w/ zero facts to support it. We've shown you that highly paid WRs don't win super bowls, so show me these highly paid WRs that have.

2024:

AJ Brown: 11 mil
DSmith: 8 mil

Dude, quit. No one is saying that. The cop out thing is weak.
That’s essentially what you keep saying. You keep saying the defense will be bad if we spend money on Pickens. It sounds like a cop out. I just broke down Bengals cap hits and you excused it because they aren’t good. Ok but they still committed 60 million to bad football players. That’s mismanagement of the cap.

Paying Pickens is not at the cost of the D, we have to draft defense and hit with some free agents, re work contracts to make room.

How does paying one of your best offensive players is rationalizing? GTHOH

No they didn't. Not even close. How did you miss that we released Lewis/Golston/Kendricks/Watkins?

We've already gone over this, are you having memory issues?

Since you're touting Quinn, if he's so great then why was WASH's D worse than ours last season?

You're so intent on scapegoating Eber that you're completely missing the big pic, and making excuses and stating lies. Do better.

Quit making stuff up. I've never said that, you must be thinking of someone else.

I've said from the start that we should sign Pickens to a 5-6 year end loaded deal

I’ve literally told you over and over again and I’ve even asked you questions. I’ll ask it different this time…..

In 2024, the Bengals had the 7th worst defense in the league.
Chase had a 9 million dollar cap hit.
Higgins had a 21 million dollar cap hit.

The defense sucked despite their cap hit being small.

So who’s to blame that year for their defense sucking?

I’m not touting Quinn. He was here for the GB debacle. My point isn’t hyping him up it’s referencing how bad Eberflus is.

I guess ask a question back your way. If Eberflus was so good why did Bears fire him and their unit got better?

Oh ok I’m misunderstanding your point then. You’ve been arguing with me about paying two receivers big money so I guess I lost your point somewhere.

Letting players walk to pay their QB and WRs and Hendrickson. One guy does not make a D, and they've done a poor job at talent acquisition.

OK, now, I've told YOU this over and over, so I'll try to address it different this time: Paying any positions huge salaries will be a detriment to your team. Right now in the NFL, WRs are receiving way more than they're worth, which is causing teams such as KC and Cincy and now the Eagles to have a major dropoff.

The Bengals D sucked because they let the guys walk who made it good(Reader, Ogunjobi) and haven't drafted well.

Is paying WRs big THE problem? No, but it's part of it.
