Our resident scout returns to tell us who's soared and who's soured in the third wide receiver race and also along the offensive line.

If you have a question, be like davidyee and Kristie last week and give us a call at 714-242-6176. The live chat will also be open too.

Turn on. Tune in. Chill out:

Bump. It's 10:07. Emp is on now. I missed the first part, but he's talking about the center position, Costa, et cetera, with couchscout.

Good show. I missed the first part, but I'd like to hear it..

You hear the replay from the link Emp put up.

I really enjoy couchscout but I think he is off on McQuistan....he has the big, ugly ginger staying as a surprise keeper but I haven't heard anything good about him and haven't seen anything good from him in two games.

Certainly wouldn't be the first time in my life I've been dead wrong, likely wouldn't be the last either. One thing that might get him cut though is the we have several positions where it would be really nice if we could go just a little deep. WR, DL, LB. Might have to cut him for sheer numbers reasons, but I think he's played well enough to be a backup RT for someone.

I see your point about Costa, and you're correct to a degree. I just want to see what we can get out of Arkin.

How do you like the way he has filled in?

You have me pumped up about the OL....I too am one that thinks if the starting 5 are together and healthy we have the makings of a good OL.

The one thing that could give McQ a backdoor spot is if Parnell is out for an extended period of time. He has missed four practices now I think. What is the word on him?

I am listening to the beginning because I missed it and like your talk about Free. I commented the other day on one of the boards that it just seemed like there was something wrong with his feet and mobility and you make some good points about him having to relearn his feet movement.

I like Costa, I've defended him here several times. He isn't even remotely close to being as horrible as people wanna make him out to be. In fact, as a straight ahead run blocker he's in the upper echelon. Now, he has his limitations, like initial quickness, lateral agility, and those short arms cause him to get over extended too often. I think that's where Arkin comes in, as has been said in other threads recently, another year in the weight room and he could be the starter at C for us. A year after that with a full season under his belt, he could be a top 12 C in the league. He has all the tools except strength. I wouldn't feel comfortable starting him this season, but I wouldn't throw myself off a ledge over it either.

Until Arkin can do this he won't surpass Costa on the depth chart. By just looking at him in preseason he can hang with the backups and hold his own, but if he has to take on starting caliber 0 and 3 techs and be able to move them on inside runs he can't do it yet. I want Arkin to be the guy but he just doesn't have the strength yet.

I'm actually happy we're taking this approach at center. Sometimes it takes a few guys before you find the right match. I think we have the coaching to actually coach up our guys and make them into players. A novel idea, I know.

I like our receivers too. We'll be good this year.

Great videos Bluestang, this is exactly what I'm talking about Costa. If you just ask him to straight up block the guy in front of him, he's damn good. It's when they ask him to block a stretch/zone to either side that he loses effectiveness. Man....Livings and Costa are gonna blow open some huge holes this year!

One more thing to add about the podcast when CS was talking about Kevin Ogletree "getting it".

Stephen Jones talked about Kevin Ogletree in an interview and he said that they talked to him about he [KO] could be the next Laurent Robinson if he took his job seriously. This conversation went down when they re-signed him and Stephen had said they sat him in a room and talked to him about his opportunity when they negotiated his one year deal. They put all the onus on him to rise to the occasion.

Yeah but those guys were Cullen Jenkins and Barry Cofield.....let's see him block someone good.

Let's hope he does it. I'd like to know a little bit about if he's a competitor or not. We shall see. I'm thinking he will be though. Last year you can chalk it up to a sophomore slump. This year, I hope he snaps it.

@couchscout,

How do you see Albright coming along? For a guy that has been playing at many spots and from all accounts has done quite well. It seems to me that he has the mental and physical tools to be a special player.

Ogletree has always had the speed, route running ability and hands needed to be a very good NFL receiver. He hasn't always had the heart and I wonder at times if maybe he has some kind of learning disability....even the other night Romo had to get him into the right spot at least once. That shouldn't be happening with a 3-4 yr vet in the same offense. Other than that, he looks the part.
