Think about this for a minute folks....

Do you really want me to believe that Hudson Houck just woke up one morning and forgot how to coach the Offensive line...Sorry I just can't grasp that concept... same goes with the other assistants....they know their business...I also guarantee that they are not telling players to commit penalties or line up wrong or blow an assignment....they go over and over and over it with the players and the player still screws up is that coaching? I don't think so...what I do think it is...is stupid or uninterested players or players that have no worry of losing their job or rep.

At some point in time it has to be laid at the feet of the players and JJ...this isn't new these players were doing this with Parcells and heck you could see signs of it starting with Switzer.

No one is truly wielding the hammer and the players know it so they take it easy and that makes them soft.

The problem isn't going to go away with a new coach atleast not imho.

ill bet it at least improves. coaching is massive, parcells took a quincy and hambrick two headed monster to the playoffs, meanwhile fatso and ginger cant get a romo, felix, austin, dez, offense to score points.

I don't think it has to do with lack of football knowledge for most of our coaches. I think it has to do with how they are relaying this knowlege to the players.

Personally I think we are probably not practicing the right way. How many time have you heard Irvin say "the way you play on Sunday is how you practiced during the week." My guess is the coaches are not conducting the practices the way that is conducive to fixing bad habits. This is the reason why same players are making same mistakes over and over again. And these players making same mistakes aren't scrubs or rookies only. People like Witten for example.

Many mention that it's because nobody fears Wade. Fear may work to motivate you to practice harder but if you are practicing the wrong way, you are just practicing to get worse.

I believe its a combination of things. I think the main culprit is Jerry. I think if Jerry would let the coaches coach and the players play we wouldn't be in the predicament we're in now. I don't even mind Jerry as a GM. But I do hate the fact that if a player has a problem on this team he will skip right over Jason and Wade and go straight to Jerry. I just don't think you can run a effective program like that.

Garrett's system is a hybrid scheme ... he's borrowed elements from different offensive schemes.

It could be that Garrett's idea of the ideal OL doesn't match with the rest of Garrett's offense.

During his final years of coaching, Landry did some mixing and matching of offensive philosophies. He later said this was a mistake.

I often wonder if Garrett is making the same mistake.

There isn't just a simple fix. The entire scheme is corrupt. This is a monumental failure. The fix starts at the top.

Very possible, good post.

We have a mauling big slow linemen on our right side and lighter more athletic guys on our left. We have a power back running sweeps and a fast guy running up the middle.

It's like JG is the anti Lombardi, who ran 7 plays to perfections JG run 10,000 plays with no rhyme or reason. When the penalties start happening all over the place because players aren't sure of their assignments and the plays take 10 minutes to come onto the field forcing us to take timeouts after a timeout, he blames the players and the players, like kids looking up to parents that beat them and say we have to play smarter.

Can anyone tell me what our bread and butter play is ? Lead draw to Emmitt, or wait, we don't have one.

But that's up to Garrett to recognize that and make adjustments. BTW, I agree with your thoughts. I just don't agree that Garrett wouldn't be able to see that and make adjustments accordingly.

It IS our coaches and here is why. Our philisophical approach to winning games is flawed. On both sides of the ball, we basically operate as if our guys are physically more talented than the opposition, and therefore this teams lacks imagination and creativity. How many times have we seen our Safeties lined up out wide and scored on around the goal line. How many times have you seen our offensive coaches create the same kind of mismatches. This coaching staff does VERY LITTLE to accenuate the talent on this team.

Here is more evidence...how many times have you heard Jerry go on and on about how old the OL was on the 90s Super Bowl team? Again, what works 15 years ago does not work today...and having Jason Garrett and Houck and Campo on those teams and this team means an aged philosophy was brought forward. We basically won in the 90s with ONE WR....a solid TE and a GREAT running game. The game is way to sophisticated now to think that would work.

You want more...Jerry bragged that 1000 coaches can coach his teams...because that is a way of him bragging about his talent acquisition acumen. And I think he values have TALENTED players over a top notch coaching staff. When you stop and think about the fact that he hired a Head COach...in his 60s...that had NEVER won a playoff game...and he turned over the keys to a roster primed and ready to go...in retrospect, why did ANY of us think we would EVER win a Super Bowl with WADE PHILLIPS. I just lagued out loud for 10 mins when I sat back and thought about how stupid I was to drink the kool aid.

When DeMarcus Ware races up the field and the OT rides him right past the play over and over and over again...you mean to tell me the coaches are saying somethign to him? Or are they so in AWE of his talent that they let him do what he wants. Since he never shows ANY moves other than quickness....I would tend to think they are not COACHING him to try coutner moves or mix it up.

I could go on and on...but it will not make a difference. The demeanor of these players and this coaching staff does not mesh. And the window is closing on the core of this team...so Jerry BETTER get the right coaches in here quick or the window will be shut!

coaching may not be the problem but when barron blatantly costs us a W you need to cut him if just to make an example to the team that that is not tolerated

A good coach would have cut him, what do you think Jimmy would have done ?

No, its obvious we draft dumb players, you see in the Dallas organization, we give them a test, who fails is the guy we draft, that way our coaches are blame free.

We're not saying its all on the coaching, yes Davis regressed, yes people dont like Colombo. The same people who saw Folk miss a few kicks and wanted him gone. the same people who see a player miss a tackle and want him off the team, the same people who see a new kicker miss and scream we'll never have a good kicker again.

Its called knee jerk reaction. Whats not called a knee jerk reaction is when coaches take two seasons to prove to you they lost it. It happens. Its also called when an owner hires the wrong coach or a bad coach or a coach who just wants to retire, or a coach who believes that triple running backs is a good thing.

Coaching is all over a team, to how they prep, review, camp, instruments on the field, and instruments off the field. IT is very very very very very important.

You have to have players that fit your sheme and you have to adjust to your players. We don't adjust.

Our offensive line is not built to effectively execute JG's offense. We need younger more athletic guys who are better in space and more suited to running draws and traps instead of a power running game. JG runs a finesse offense more like the Colts then the Giants.

Yep. Coaching is essentially a teaching job. It doesn't matter what kind of "adjustments" you make or what kind of Xs and Os you draw up on a whiteboard, if you can't teach the concepts to the players it's all meaningless paper work. I happen to think Garrett isn't a very good teacher.

Right. I think Garrett's lesson plans are too complex.

Much like Jarv said earlier:

Well, I am starting to question Houck and schemes.

If McQuistan, Berger, and Procter can play and look at least half decent in Miami for next to no money, how come our "pro-bowlers, don't look that good.

I have only seen part of 1 game with Flo in Pittsburgh (last Sunday's game) and thought he was missing a lot of pass blocks and barely recovering, but again, moving him to right tackle or keeping him as a 3rd OT and rotating guys for another year might have saved Game 1 of season. How can Brewster get cut and those 3 in Miami start for a competitive team? Coaching from top on down has to be a factor. It just has to be.

How come Pittsburgh can win games with scrub QB's and makeshift offensive lines?

We can't open up consistent holes in the running game, and our pass blocking is very inconsistent. I will say, TE and FB and RB's also have a lot to do with blocking though. Gronk is new, and Phillips is hurt.

I'm no longer sold on the big massive oline. Give me more athletic, and maybe more importantly, mentally tough and smart oliners that weigh 300-310 (instead of 360 pound guys that can't move forward or to the side).

Because the Steelers defense doesnt give up 200 yards in ONE QUARTER. Its a lot easier to stay patient on offense when you only give up 15 points a game.

The thing is, fans want a simple, one-stop potential quick fix rather than accept that a number of things need to be changed and it may not happen quickly. I'm not saying the coaches aren't some or even much of the problem, but a new coach won't be a miracle cure. Better leadership might get us going the right direction quicker though, and more decisive leaderrship migh help get the necessary changes pushed throwuh more quickly.
