In defense of our Coaches

Think about this for a minute folks....

Do you really want me to believe that Hudson Houck just woke up one morning and forgot how to coach the Offensive line...Sorry I just can't grasp that concept... same goes with the other assistants....they know their business...I also guarantee that they are not telling players to commit penalties or line up wrong or blow an assignment....they go over and over and over it with the players and the player still screws up is that coaching? I don't think so...what I do think it is...is stupid or uninterested players or players that have no worry of losing their job or rep.

At some point in time it has to be laid at the feet of the players and JJ...this isn't new these players were doing this with Parcells and heck you could see signs of it starting with Switzer.

No one is truly wielding the hammer and the players know it so they take it easy and that makes them soft.


The problem isn't going to go away with a new coach atleast not imho.

That's the the truth but I'll say it's 80% the players, and 20% the coaches when it comes to play on the field.

The team is the reflection of their head coach but having said that at the end of the day the players will have to hold responsibilty for their success or failure in a game.

The sad commentary about this most fans know this but will still look at the coaches at the end of the day.

The whipping boy around here is Garrett, but I think he will be a HC very soon in this league maybe with Dallas, or some other team.

If he goes elsewhere and pull a Sean Payton the same people wanting him gone will be the same people whining "Why did he get away?" I say this with a big disclaimer though to stop some from thinking I said he will pull a Payton but it's a 50/50 shot if he's given the opportunity to coach a team hell anyone for that matter.

I see, read and respond to this chatter alot on this forum and alot of us scream, and yell at the coaches but yet none of us forum fans wouldn't do any better if we were coaches on this team and as for the "fairweather" fans you know who you are the ones who are only around when the team is successful but when the team falls into a funk they would say that "They lost faith in the team", "I'm done watching the games", or "I will be a fan again when this team fires everyone" was never a fan to begin with.

Some of us loyal fans seen these types of seasons with this team and while we cringed during those dreadful Campo years but we pressed on and watched the games anyway because some of us knew that things were going to get better.

Change can sometimes be good and Wade Phillips will be gone after this season while he's a good DC, but not a good HC decent but not good but he won't be on the unemployment line for long because some team will offer him their DC job but that is all he is to me.

Who the next coach will be no one knows for sure but it won't really change much until some players that is a liability to the success of the team goes along with most of this coaching staff.

Very possible, good post.

We have a mauling big slow linemen on our right side and lighter more athletic guys on our left. We have a power back running sweeps and a fast guy running up the middle.

It's like JG is the anti Lombardi, who ran 7 plays to perfections JG run 10,000 plays with no rhyme or reason. When the penalties start happening all over the place because players aren't sure of their assignments and the plays take 10 minutes to come onto the field forcing us to take timeouts after a timeout, he blames the players and the players, like kids looking up to parents that beat them and say we have to play smarter.

Can anyone tell me what our bread and butter play is ? Lead draw to Emmitt, or wait, we don't have one.

I'm going to say this Jarv that man on man blocking scheme used by Tony Wise, and now Hudson Houck was great for the 90s Cowboys.

But the DEs are just too good today to just man up on not saying that the man on man blocking scheme isn't good but when you have those slow o-linemen with the exception of Free that scheme won't be any good because you and I both know that in order for it to work your o-line has to be just as fast as the opposing d-line.

With the running backs in Jones, and Choice I think a zone blocking type of scheme would serve them well granted the o-line would need a complete overhaul for that to happen as for Barber he's perfect for this current blocking scheme because of his north/south type of running style.

Garrett's system is a hybrid scheme ... he's borrowed elements from different offensive schemes.

It could be that Garrett's idea of the ideal OL doesn't match with the rest of Garrett's offense.

During his final years of coaching, Landry did some mixing and matching of offensive philosophies. He later said this was a mistake.

I often wonder if Garrett is making the same mistake.

It IS our coaches and here is why. Our philisophical approach to winning games is flawed. On both sides of the ball, we basically operate as if our guys are physically more talented than the opposition, and therefore this teams lacks imagination and creativity. How many times have we seen our Safeties lined up out wide and scored on around the goal line. How many times have you seen our offensive coaches create the same kind of mismatches. This coaching staff does VERY LITTLE to accenuate the talent on this team.

Here is more evidence...how many times have you heard Jerry go on and on about how old the OL was on the 90s Super Bowl team? Again, what works 15 years ago does not work today...and having Jason Garrett and Houck and Campo on those teams and this team means an aged philosophy was brought forward. We basically won in the 90s with ONE WR....a solid TE and a GREAT running game. The game is way to sophisticated now to think that would work.

You want more...Jerry bragged that 1000 coaches can coach his teams...because that is a way of him bragging about his talent acquisition acumen. And I think he values have TALENTED players over a top notch coaching staff. When you stop and think about the fact that he hired a Head COach...in his 60s...that had NEVER won a playoff game...and he turned over the keys to a roster primed and ready to go...in retrospect, why did ANY of us think we would EVER win a Super Bowl with WADE PHILLIPS. I just lagued out loud for 10 mins when I sat back and thought about how stupid I was to drink the kool aid.

When DeMarcus Ware races up the field and the OT rides him right past the play over and over and over again...you mean to tell me the coaches are saying somethign to him? Or are they so in AWE of his talent that they let him do what he wants. Since he never shows ANY moves other than quickness....I would tend to think they are not COACHING him to try coutner moves or mix it up.

I could go on and on...but it will not make a difference. The demeanor of these players and this coaching staff does not mesh. And the window is closing on the core of this team...so Jerry BETTER get the right coaches in here quick or the window will be shut!

I agree with just about everything you said except the window is closing on the team.
