In Praise of Hostile...

what can one expect? it's the internet where people of various ages/maturity and knowledge roam

I enjoy reading Hostile threads and sometimes I may not agree but I always respect his football knowledge. I dont know him personally, but I have heard he's a good man and father and that's good enough for me.

He has helped build this site to what it is... the 1 cowboys site on the net

To bash and insult him is crazy/ like it or not he is entitled to his opinion and if you dont like it then dont read.

theres always the ignore function if you dont like his posts

as you can see I have been a member since 2004 although rarely post unless something is really diggin at me
But this is the first site I visit each morning to check on whats happening Cowboys related. That is because of one reason and that is the quality of the board and most participants. A board is a wonderful thing. It allows anyone to anonymously say almost anything they want with no reprecussions. Unfortunately that also allows things to be posted that would never be dared to be said face to face.
Over the past 2 years it seems to be getting worse. Odd that during a game, the thought will cross my mind that "the board will be nuts over that particular play". The vitriol is mind boggling in some instances. But, hey, its 2 great countries we live in for the most of us where freedom of speech is supreme.
So i can sypmathize with Hos, whom I admire as a moderator very much. It is guys like him and Adam, Sarge etc that make this board very interesting.

I've been lurking here a looooong time it seems and I just want to say, Hos is the opinion I look for (among some others). Pops was Hostile's father figure here on the board, it's understandable how Hos misses him.
Keep it together Hos, remember what your mentor would do and realize that you just might be someone's "Pops" here.
I Know you'll see that as a great compliment, and you should because that's the intent.

I has been getting a bit nasty around here. It seems lines have been drawn, and mud is prepared to be thrown. I have no doubt Hos can take care of himself, but it is still distressing to witness . . . every game results in two camps, those happy for a win, and those who could find a Godzilla size dung heap in Disneyland. And the reverse after losses, with some taking way to much glee in being "right" this week.

I still get alot of encouragement, info and just plain entertainment around here, but it's getting rather ugly, also. Just because you have an opinion on something doesn't make it morally wrong, or a gift directly from God, it just makes it your opinion. Things would be easier around here if folks just took opinions as opinions.

Like I said in another thread, it is amazing how some on this board let people they will never meet get under their skin.

And like I said last week, for those who hate this board so much, nobody is putting a gun to your head.

Yes, people that constantly whine about the Cowboys are annoying but to me, those who constantly whine about the whiners and talk about how they hate posting here are just as bad.

Hos has been nothing but a great guy to me since the day I joined this forum, and posted a couple of high school pictures of me playing football.

He helped get me chosen as one of the people to be able to go to TO's football camp, even though I wasn't able to go, due to other things going on.

When I came to college, he tried to see if he had any contacts left here to help me find a job and whatnot.

When I met Roy Williams and he told me of his displeasure with Jason Garrett, Hos was the first person backing me up and telling people I wasn't lying.

He did all this, without personally knowing the 16 year old kid that I was, all he had, like with most of you, was a name behind a computer screen. Talk about a genuine person.


Here I am 4 years later, 20 years old, and I still appreciate all the kindness the man has shown to me. I can't even imagine what he has done for others here. I have looked up to Hos since day one of me joining this forum, and I will continue to do so until it doesn't exist.

IMO Hos is a fantastic Mod and poster. Fairminded, likes to have fun with it. Ive been a member of many Cowboys boards in my day. The ZONE is far and away the very best of the lot. Normally when it comes to boards you get either the WILD WILD WEST where anything goes, or an overmoderated iron fist type of thing. Here at the zone we can post away, have fun, pretty much post what we want......within REASON. In otherwords,....have fun...but keep it classy, simple concept. Hos is a HUGE part of that concept.

I for one really appreciate this.

Wouldn't be the same around here without the guy, I don't know how he'll feel about a "We Love You!" thread, but if there was ever a CZ get together, Hos is one person I definitely buy a drink. (something non-alcholic, since the guy doesn't drink)

Hostility would be greatly missed by myself if he were to get so frustrated as to leave the board. He is one of my favorite posters (good thing since he posts a million times a day lol).

I for one enjoy the banter between opposing viewpoints, even when it gets a might personal (then again, before joining here I was a part of the now defunct Fort Worth Star Telegram Cowboys forum, which was basically a no-holds bar combat zone when it came to Cowboys "discussions").

So while hoping that any frustration Hos is feeling toward the tone of the board doesn't make him leave, I also hope it doesn't drive him to go crazy and start banning people left and right like other boards do to the more vocal "haters".

Hostile has been a good friend to me over the years and I feel a real kinship with him. The nimrods on here who can't stop from trying to feel better by putting someone else down will always target a man like Hos because he is honest and genuine with his thoughts and feelings. Those others are always posturing and joining the mob because they don't want to look as if they weren't cool.

Hos is his own man. He & I agree on most things but not all and I enjoy it when we have differing viewpoints because he is able to argue his points without getting personal. Being an old guy myself, I love his history posts and the amount of research he puts into it.

Lastly, like others have said, Hos is the heart and soul of the CowboysZone. CBZ40, Reality, and Hostile made this the best Cowboys' forum on the internet by a wide margin. I've been to a lot of them over the years and this is the best there is and the best I've ever seen and a lot of that is due to Hostile.

I wish Jerry Jones was more like Reality and would just enjoy owning the team but letting others run it for him. I wish Reality would post more often than he does but I'm glad that he has let guys like Hostile, CBZ40, and the other mods take care of the day-to-day running and moderating of the site.

Hos is my friend and one of the best guys I have ever met on the internet. :starspin
