In The Cowboys Film Room: Tyrone Crawford, DeMarcus Lawrence, And The D-Line

Ask any group of Cowboys fan where we need the most improvement, and the odds are pretty good you'll hear the majoriy say Pass Rush. Conventional wisdom is, we've got to improve the pass rush, and to do that we've got to upgrade the defensive line.
People are frustrated with our defensive line across the board, but most especially the defensive tackles. Nick Hayden is just a JAG; he can't rush the passer. If we got a real 1-tech, who could take up double teams, it would make the 3-tech so much better.
Of course people are disappointed with our 3-tech as well. Tyrone Crawford is a bust, he's injury prone, over-rated and doesn't produce enough. Even if he is getting a few sacks, he's a liability against the run.
But is any of that true?
Over the next few posts, I'll be breaking down the defensive line, focusing on a few things: Do they get push? Does the 1-tech draw double teams? Is the 3-tech consistently beating his man one on one? How do they play the run? And lastly, what does our scheme and coaching look like?
A quick housekeeping note: The 3-tech will always be designated in yellow. Some of the other positions, I'm playing around with colors to see what is the easiest to follow and use. But I'll do my best to always designate who is who with text.
