In the National Football League if you are a GM, HC or some other kind of decision maker, knowing what you want better not take too long. Leaders must be proactive, well planned and decisive to get a competitive advantage. In short, in the NFL waiting is losing. Jerry’s infamous quote about “being comfortable with ambiguity” may work well in the business world, but in the world of professional football, ambiguity is stupid.

It was obvious all last off-season that for some dumb reason Jerry Jones waited…and waited….to do what effective NFL GMs know well in advance needs to be done early and decisively. If you are going to sign a player you already have, the sooner you do it, the better it is for the other big decisions you must make. Waiting on some mystical something to happen is destructive to any team working competitively against 31 other teams vying for talent and advantages.

The 2024 season was torpedoed before the ball was even kicked off in Cleveland in game one. Jerry waited until the last minute to sign two expensive players he knew in March he was going to sign. Whether you like signing Cedee or Dak, refusing to get their contracts done early in order to clear some cap space was destructive. It placed all pressure on the draft because no help could come from anywhere else.

So here we are in December, 2024, already eliminated from the playoffs with the entire current coaching staff on expiring contracts, your team’s most talented player Micah Parsons on the precipice of his second contract, and once again, “Mr. Ambiguity” and his giggling son are apparently sitting on their hands. Both have indicated in radio interviews, they have made no decisions nor are they planning to do anything until the season’s over.

Maybe they don’t want McCarthy back and are already planning for their next HC. (I seriously doubt that) But if they are planning on bringing Mac back, why not get the deal done now so players who are heading into FA already know who’s going to be here. If they plan on re-signing Parsons, what’s the hold up? Every single day that passes will cost more and more for his services. Why wait?

So the questions remain for a front office that looks completely flat footed and lazy.
  • What kind of team do you want to build for 2025?
  • Who would be the best head coach to lead this team in 2025?
  • If you want Parsons here long term, why wait to get a deal done? (If he’s not in your plans, what do want in a trade?)
  • What positions does this team need to upgrade in order to make a deep playoff run in 2025?
If they plan on waiting until summertime to once again answer the above questions, 2025 will already likely be a failure. Why? Because in the NFL, waiting is losing! How long before Jerry and Giggles learn this?

I just don’t think they tell the fans anything and personally why should they. I’m sure the players and coaches know what’s happening for the most part.

Great stuff !!

I’d say the reason they wait is to play the public perception game . That’s more important to Jethro than what’s best for the team.

In other words he felt pulling the trigger too early on Dak he’d receive more criticism for caving in . Waiting until last minute not as much criticism.

Same thing with MM. pubic perception is swinging more in favor of resigning MM now than previously but it’s not over yet.

We see this time and time again.

I will get this out of the way before it is brought up by anyone else - you're not a real fan. You need to go find another team.

This implies there being a plan.

There’s no plan. They just collect players and coaches and figure it all ought to work out fine.

The only actual plan is…draft as many stars as you can and blame not being able to sign other teams’ players on having to sign your own years later, when it’s more about they don’t do actual GM work and couldn’t if they tried, but want all the credit if things go well.

Football guys. They played at Arkansas a million years ago. That matters in todays NFL.

You gotta keep McCarthy.

McCarthy is a good coach and probably the best this franchise can do for now.

They aren’t going to pay a lot for a coach or give them a ton of power so McCarthy is good under these circumstances.

The correct move was not signing Dak to that deal a day before the season.

The front office couldn’t have had a worse year and they stood idle after that GB loss last year in a game we should’ve won easy.

Great post again, Bullet!

We all know that Micah is getting a massive deal. Even those who want to trade him know what's going to happen. So if we all know, so do they. Just sign him in early March without the posturing and game playing.

The same applies for restructuring contracts. Do it early in order to at least give the appearance that you are ready for free agency. Even if there is no participation.

As it pertains to Big Mike, I would suggest figuring out his situation as soon as the Washington game ends (as they probably should have at the same point last season as they became the 2 seed in the NFC). As Bullet said, it allows pending free agents, on the team or around the League, to have an idea of what is going on in Dallas.

Unless MM is the plan, they will do what they always do. Let him field offers and hit FA, and instead of jumping on the Ben Johnson's and Vrabel's of the world they will gas up the Yacht and settle for Rex Ryan or something. In the end, they will lose out

There are still two games and a team after analysis for the team to handle first.

Not a 'fan' cry session before the season even concludes. To answer your complaints...smart player restructuring and retention, both.

The plan for next season is to not come in fourth in the NFCE.
I know all on site here thinks that Red Bull brings you wings. The season isn't over. The quality of actual team depth still has to be evaluated. There is enough available cap to do just about what it is they really want to do.

With seven starters out, the players weren't kept from individual success because of Jerry Jones. It isn't even played out and there is a chorus of singing in the rain with non-stop crying.

This fan will at least let it play out before my own values are used for how I see football. I'm not at all unfamiliar with the process or even how NFL types of progress work.

No, it just isn't a Jerry and Stephen failure. Just the way things really are, without chocking biases.

Love this post and 100% accurate.

Here are my thoughts.
  1. Jerry is the head coach so it’s just a matter of picking the next sap to take the reigns as Jerry’s four year scapegoat.
  2. Jerry is like a teenage high school girl in that he has no plan and he simply lets the turbulent seas toss his ship here and there until he decides he’s ready to make an impulse decision. He has no plan!
  3. He also has no draft plan. He acts on impulse and without any accountability he is fat, dumb, and happy content to roll the dice for the 2025-2026 season like he’s playing fantasy football with a $20 pot.
  4. We can expect more of the same as the past offseason. Other GMs draft and sign free agents to build the kind of team they k ow they wanna build. The Ravens know who they are and what kind of team they build on. Jerry doesn’t understand football beyond what the rules are. If 30 years is not enough time to learn how to build a team around the type of team you wanna build, then he sure ain’t gonna ever figure it.
  5. Having an impulsive, gambling, and trend chaser GM is bad. When your GM is more focused on hookers, Johnny Walker Blue, yacht trips, and booking the next concert at his palace of doom, it’s extremely far fetched he can build a team capable of winning consecutive playoff games.
What will we look like next year? It will be the result of our beloved fuhrer making a series of off the cuff, impulsive decisions while he dedicates 90% of his time on getting drunk and sleeping with calls girls, such great qualities in a GM. So much to look forward to …

He's waiting for his detractors to go away and quit making him relevant and making him more money. Until that happens, he'll be in no hurry to change. He can afford to wait.....Other GMs are employees that can be fired...they can't wait. Again, Jerry won't change, until we fans stop watching or caring. The question is, who is willing to do that? Are you? I'm not....

You're preaching to the choir Bob and I understand what your point is, but you're missing the major issue, and I will not entertain that discussion again because no Cowboys fan, none of us, wants to have a reality check on this franchise's current future.
Yes, we can all look forward to the mid slot draft in April again.
That what we do now.

It's all upon his staff and coaches, not Jerry. Light fires there and loyalty with the players. There really is a bunch of talent and coaches to get it done. Do it!

I'm not about to start a crying routine before the end of the season...NO SIR! :starspin: :hammer:

It's all upon his staff and coaches, not Jerry. Light fires there and loyalty with the players. There really is a bunch of talent and coaches to get it done. Do it!

I'm not about to start a crying routine before the end of the season...NO SIR! :starspin: :hammer:
Alright CC, but I need to see it, and the basic math just isn't adding up for me.
You want to prove something to me then bring the 2005 cap to the table and how this team is possibly going to be able to compete even within our own division.
I'm just talking 2005, we can break down the next 3 years as well.
