Increase Speed

I don't claim to be any kind of fitness guru, but I bet you aren't getting any faster posting here. I think if I were in your shoes I would actually go train by running. But that's just me.

10-12 sprints a day. Start out with 40 yard sprints. Then work your way up to 100. Eventually you want to be doing 10 200 yard sprints a day.

I'll start that tomorrow, what time interval between them?

I'm 16, my life is really school, football, workout, cowboyszone/or hang with friends sleep.

Plyometrics, resistance (i.e. parachutes, tires, etc), and as ghey as they look....strength shoes (katapult or the original ones, they actually work).

You want to isolate your fast twitch muscles. Do plyo at FULL speed, while you're using strength shoes and supplement with resistance sprint training every other training day......and I guarantee you get faster.

Where can I pickup some resistance equipment.

If you have any steep hills around your area that is a great way to train.

Resistance equipment can be as simple as a rope and a tire. You can pick up some elastic tubing online and tie a 30 foot length to something stationary...start sprints from the tie off point and run until the tubing wont let you anymore. You can pick up parachutes and other resistance training things from numerous sites online...even ebay.

This too...when I had to get back into shape for rugby after 5-6 years of sitting around and drinking beer, this was what got me there. I ran hills and the stairs at my university's stadium.

If you do have a stadium nearby, use it! Do one or two laps around the track if there is one for a warm up, and start doing the stair sets in between each seating section until you can run up and down each stair set in the stadium. Don't forget to cool down after these workouts...fast twitch muscles need A LOT of stretching and proper cool down

I need to increase my speed for my upcoming football season, what workouts would assist in this?
Start by spending less time on the internet.

:D

Take your time, then push yourself to get better at the intervals. Wait at least a minute or two.

Your school should have strength shoes, but make sure your coach tells you how to use them.

Insult people much bigger than you. You will either get much quicker or you will learn how to fight better. :laugh2:
