According to STATS, LLC., DeMarcus Ware finished tied for fifth in the league for total quarterback pressures this season (sacks, knockdowns and hurries combined). Here's my chart of the top 15 --

Greg Eillis had 24 in almost nine full games, on pace for 43 over 16 games, which would have put him 18th in the NFL.

Eat it, Merriman.

Or inject it.

Merriman might have lead the league if not for the roids.

And I don't trust lists like this. It's someone elses definition of a "Hurry". So if Ware's fingers grazes the back of a QBs jersey but didn't actually "Hurry" or "Pressure" the QB, it counts as a "Hurry".

Don't get me wrong, Ware is easily one of the top 10 pass rushers in the NFL (although he's still not complete in that area). I just don't put any stock into these lists. I prefer to trust my own judgement.

Then again, he might not be in the top 15 without the roids.

Not bad...not bad at all. Hopefully, with a healthy Ellis next year (?) or perhaps a good free agent signing to go opposite of Ware, our DL as a unit will improve in the "QB pressure" department.

Don't forget to add "A better defensive coordinator" to the list.

Trevor Pryce -- a 3-4 DE that gets pressure on the QB.

I didn't know those existed.

The Ravens run a 46.

Just needed some time to get over last year's Rose Bowl debacle. ;)

Certainly no shame in that. :D

True dat. The past few week's defensive performances, if we can even call it a performance, have officially landed me in the GROZ wagon.

Ware's a fun player to have on this team. Merriman may go on to have the better career, but Ware looks like he'll be chasing his coattails fairly tightly for the majority of their careers. Second to Merriman's DROY; one Pro Bowl to Merriman's two; etc.

I've seen the Moss-Ellis debate surface in the Merriman-Ware ones. Well, it took Ware just two seasons to get the Pro Bowl berth that has eluded Ellis his entire career. Not that it matters all that much, but in terms of perception it absolutely does. Just imagine if Ellis was a Pro Bowl defensive end his second year in the league. Don't think it would have changed some opinions on how we did in that draft?

Anyway, that's a debate for another time.

I'll stick to my first comment: Ware's fun to watch.

True, it certainly seems unfair.

The different standards in football and baseball are rather humorous.

People are going to jail to discover who's using these things in baseball. People want asterisks next to records.

In football, it's a mere afterthought and doesn't tarnish a player's reputation at all.

Is it just because we expect the football players to be using them, while the baseball record books are "cherished?"

Just seems odd.

Here, Merriman, go to the Pro Bowl....oh, but don't ever show your faces again Bonds/McGwire/Sosa.

Yeah I dont think we will ever quite understand the double standard.

Did you read about the "JUICED" baseballs that were used in 1998?

By their definition, a hurry "occurs when a defensive rush forces the quarterback into an erratic or off target throw." And they say they review the data before they post it.
