Initial Draft Grades/Thoughts

Oh, yeah.

Not only did Dallas not "trade down" in round one. They turned down a second round pick and the 17th pick to secure Smith.

"Winning". :)

Where is Matt Mosley and the rest of the Dallas media?

They have egg, I mean cheese on their face.

Those guys need a napkin.

Where is Anthony Castonzo?

"Winning".

Mosley was major butt hurt over the Tyron Smith thing...he got used like a cheap *****

What's the story here?

who knows at this point, all speculation...but I would give it a B+

I really like Smith, Carter, Arkin, and Nagy. Not sure about the rest.

Give it a B overall:

1. Smith- A. Top talent at the position and fills a huge need. It may not happen this year, but he is out LT of the future with Free going back to RT.

2. Carter- B. Mayock called him a Top 15 talent pre injury. I think he and Lee will complement each other nicely.

3. Murray-B. I think he will play much more than people think. Barber is as good as gone and Choice isn't far behind him. Keeps Dez off kick returns.

4. Arkin- B. Dilfer raved about the guy. A year in the weight room and we have a 10 year starter at OG.

5. Thomas- C. Meh. I see Jamar Wall written all over him. PS bound

6. Harris- D. Don't like this guy at all- not big, not fast, poor hands and fumbles alot. I will be amazed if he makes the team.

7. Chapas- C+. Shouldn't be hard to beat out Gronk.

I don't see how drafting a starter in the 7th round warrants a C+.

Media went hook line and sinker for the we have Costonzo and Smith even smoke screen so Jerry could trade still get Smith and a second or 3rd. Problem was Don Banks had the day before that Dallas had Smith higher on their board than Okung in 10. Since Banks isnt a local media lap dog nobody with a brain was buying Costonzo.

Tyron Smith, Carter and Murray are just solid athletes with ceilings through the roof, plus hard work and high character guys.... that's hard to complain about on such a talented squad. A

Now the rest of the Draft is very intruiging, the OLineman Akin is versatile. Overall they will be solid and interesting competition with Special Teams improvment. B-

Grade B+

He wrote a story trashing out the Bruce Carter pick and my friend in Dallas said he made some unflattering comments on a radio show about Tyron Smith being picked at 9.

Looks like a bunch of sour grapes to me.

I have to say this, too.

It's a big one.

Jerry Jones wasn't trading down during the entire draft. It's smart to trade down or trade up sometimes, but the Cowboys were sitting in high position and in very good position in every round. Dallas had the high ground in this draft, especially at 9 and 40. Dallas just let the draft fall to them and picked. Very smart strategy.

I stated that Tyron Smith would give Dallas B.J. Raiji value at 9 (in the offensive line), and the Cowboys cashed in on that blue chip, cornerstone value. They anchored at 9 and went yard.

Tyron Smith was sitting on a tee for the Cowboys at 9, and Dallas didn't miss.

They hit it out of the park.

The Boys Scouting department got exactly WHAT we needed overall: A- Grade

Smith -> A+ (best athletic young OT in the DRAFT.....hands down!!!)
Carter -> A (speed speed speed......something we've lacked in the middle)
Murray -> A+ (stud RB with an extra gear like Felix but hands of gold!!!!!)
Arkin -> A+ (stud OG with a nasty streak with HUGE hands and power)
Thomas -> B- (special teams player of the year in College....)
Harris -> B+ (got Chris Johnson wiggle and toughness..awesome talent)
Chapas -> B (has got great hands and toughness; smart player)

Dont agree that the problems on D were mostly scheme and coach related. I could easily see five new starters. Nmamdi would help alot, I'm not as big on Huff as some, but he is better than we have now. A healthy Carter would help alot. FWIW Bunting said he did not think he was a good fit in this scheme.

That aint what Butch Davis said. The kid can ball, it boggles my mind why everyone is down on this pick

D, aside from Smith the team drafted backups and special team players. It is the same ******** strategy Jerry employs all the time because he is a moron.

I gotta agree 100%...

Smith - B+
Carter - D
Murray - D-
Arkin - C
Thomas - D
Harris - C-
Chapas - D-
Nagy - B-

Well, the picks are all in. Why don't a few of you "D" guys re-draft for us based on where players were actually picked? I'm interested to see how well you can do in a hindsight draft.

Arguing about draft grades doesn't make any sense until the players actually step onto the field anyways.

I would have drafted Will Rackley in the 3rd and Edmond Gates in the 4th instead of Murray and Arkin.

Murray doesnt look much better than Steve Slaton and finding those types of RB's is easy. I never heard of Arkin but his film looked pretty good and Im excited about him. Another interesting way to go would have been Kenrick Ellis in the 3rd and Arkin in the 4th

Seeing all the D grades on here simply reinforces the fact that we do indeed have an enormous amount of stupid people wasting their time with their keyboard. Do yourself a favor and take up fishing instead of following football. You obviously suck at the latter.

B

I like all the players, but it will take a while for most of them to contribute.

Smith, Murray, Harris, Chapas will make immediate contributions, but we really needed interior line help and fast. I love the Arkin pick but he will take a while..Carter, my fav. pick, will be a while coming along but worth the wait in the end while Murray is the opposite--will make instant contributions but will never be a starter.

I think we kinda **** the bed with the Murray pick when there were some starting guards available, but they did make up for it by a very good third day.

It's all good, haters gonna hate.

It's easy just to laugh and move on.

I don't understand the injury thing on Demarco. Kid missed FOUR games in 4 years playing for a national power. Albeit one of the games was the national championship game, I think he deserves the benefit of the doubt. I'm betting most on this board would have gladly taken Percy Harvin even with his injury history?
Bottom line. Demarco is a pretty darn good back that will upgrade our running back stable.
