Actually dumping Tyron ($9.6 million cap savings) and Zeke ($4.8 million cap savings) only opens up $14.4 million of cap savings. due to prorated bonuses that would accelerate. Yes, it would be $24.5 million in salary that Jerry could invest in keeping his yacht refueled but unfortunately it would not be $24.5 million in cap savings for the Cowboys.
Zeke - I am fine with cutting him immediately. However, the other option is cutting his salary to $3 million. If he accepts the cut then we save $7.9 million on the cap this year. If we just outright cut him then we only save $4.8 million on the cap this year unless we make him a June 1st cut. If we make him a June 1st cut then we save $10.8 million the cap this year. However, we don't have access to that cap space until June 1.
Tyron - A $9.6 million cap savings would be great. However, our OLine has some issues with depth right now and finding good depth at OLine in free agency is tough. If we cut Tyron then that means we enter free agency with no LG and a RT that is still coming back from injury. We also don't have a viable swing tackle or anyone that has proven they can be a back up center or G. We could sign Jason Peters for Swing tackle but he has proven that if he gets more than 15-20 plays per game then he is just an injury waiting to happen at his age. By keeping Tyron we have someone that can play LT or RT. If we have trouble locating a LG to replace McGovern then we can slide Tyler Smith to LG and put Tyron at LT. If we locate the LG but Steele suffers a set back and is not ready for the start of the season then we can plug Tyron in at RT and leave Tyler Smith at LT. I know Tyron's injury history is concerning but we have tons of depth issues at OLine.
