Its already a term Ive seen thrown around when the name Sean Lee comes up. Obviously, Miles Austin would fall into the group as well.
My question to you guys is; Do you put much stock into this?
Personally, I see it more of a bad luck situation. Brian Cushing for example, what are the odds of that happening to him? Danny Amendola is another guy that can be brought up.

I can understand wanting to avoid drafting or trading for a guy that has a known issue with a knee of something but what if the guy had missed several games with a hammie one year and some the next with a bad rotator cuff, then perhaps a few with turf toe...

I think Miles is hammyprone.

I think that if you draft players with a history of injury in college, they are prone to have more injuries on average, in the NFL.

I consider muscle pulls and strains as injury prone injuries. Miles is injury prone. Lee has injury history but until recently all of his injuries were serious season enders. Demarco I do not know if its him or the staff. If you go back to the Emmitt days I find it hard to believe that he never had a knee injury of any kind considering how many times he touched the ball. I am willing to throw some of the blame on the SC staff.

DeMarco Murray is the only guy that I think is inj. prone but thats because of his college days too. But if a guy cant seem to put together 25 games over a couple seasons you gotta wonder.

I'd add Matt Johnson to the list

Personally, some positions takes more physicality and punishment, like both lines and LBs, these positions usually end up with violent collisions every play, so I could see more injuries occurring for them and usually due to bad luck. I don't consider Lee injury prone but I consider Miles injury prone due to reoccurring injury.

Think RB too. All those lower-body tackles must be hard on your joints, e.g. ankle, knee, tendons etc.

Mostly, I see it as bad luck.

But I also believe some players can tolerate pain better than others.
I agree with this. We were not born equal, and some people can just breeze through hits, and falls, etc. Others weren't born so lucky. Myself, I was always strong, tough, naturally. My brother was sickly, injury prone.

Yep. You answered your own question with your examples and I could name many more.

It depends on a few factors including how the injury occurred, frequency of injury, and the players ability to stay on the field. Take Tony Romo for example. He has been injured quite a few times during his career. But he has also played through a vast majority of his injuries. The cause of most of his injuries were for the most part, lack of proper blocking. Would I label him injury prone? Absolutely not.

Sean Lee on the other hand, as great as I think he is, seems to have an injury every year that keeps him out of multiple games. He had injury issues in college which is why he dropped in the draft. Because of the frequency and the amount of games missed (hasn't played a full season in 3 years in Dallas), I would label Sean Lee injury prone.

Others that I would label injury prone:
Morris Claiborne
Miles Austin
DeMarco Murray
Matt Johnson

Being on the list does not mean that the players aren't any good, it just means that there is a strong possibility based on their past injury issues that they will miss games at some point during the season doe to injury.

Before you can debate this topic you have to define what 'injury prone' means.

The number of severe injuries in the NFL, which is defined as an injury of 8 days or longer, has risen each year since 2009; from 1095 in 2006 to 1495 in 2012. It's probably somewhere but I can't find it yet for sever injuries for players on the Cowboys. You can go thru the injury report by week and do it but I don't have the time tonite. The only definition I could find for injury prone is injuries greater than usual which means not much.

I think it's a case by case thing. I do think some players are "injury prone", some because of physiology and some because of style of play. In some cases, I think it's just bad luck. I would consider Vick injury prone, due to his size, position he plays and he really does a poor job in protecting himself which is going to make him more prone to injury.

A few months ago, NFL network had a specialist on, talking about hamstring injuries and the doctor said that severe hamstring injuries will leave many players prone to re-injure their hamstrings. In a nutshell, he said in severe cases, scar tissue forms and that scar tissue is not as strong and will leave that player more susceptible to future hamstring injuries. I think this may be the case with Miles.

I don't know if Sean Lee is "injury prone", leaning towards bad luck, but I heard an interview with a doctor, a couple weeks ago, that had an opinion about Lee that was interesting. He said a player like Lee is not as physically gifted as some players, but excels in the mental part of the game. His mind is quick to diagnose and break down a play but he has to push his body that much harder and closer to it's physical limits to keep up with his brain. I don't know how true that is, but it certainly sounded plausible.

Injury prone to me is a guy who has a specific body part that seems to be damaged permanently.. Example: Miles Austin (Hamstrings).. Otherwise I think it has a lot to do with luck..

Also though I think toughness is a whole different thing.. There are guys in this league like Dez and Witten who would probably play through the same exact injury a guy like Morris Claiborne would sit 2 games for.

A guy like Sean Lee to me has been unlucky because his injuries all seem to be unrelated and a matter of unfortunate circumstance.
