what are your thoughts about someone like Stoops?

What we need is REAL. We need a coach that will command respect and hold EVERYONE accountable above and beyond their "cupcake" or "drill sargeant" philosophy.

No thanks to Stoops. The guy was born to coach college football, like Pete Carroll, Mack Brown and Urban Meyer. Guys with that much success at the college level do so because they are great recruiters and exploit easy mismatches because the talent gap is often very wide between two teams. They often run offensive and defensive base sets that would NEVER work in the NFL. The NFL is an entirely different animal. There's also a big difference between coaching kids out of high school and grown men worth millions.

Every now and then a guy comes along who has success at both levels, like Jimmy Johnson, but for the most part college coaches don't do well in the NFL. We saw that first hand with Barry Switzer, who only won a SB because he walked into a situation in which a mentally handicapped monkey could have done so.

I really dont know anything about him. But im in favor of new blood I hate retreads. at this point with this embarssement of a football team
I really still feel that Jerry will undermine any headcoach he brings in .....we are doomed I dont see light at the end of the tunnel...
Yes very negative

Most college coaches can't just make the jump straight to HC in the NFL. Very poor track record.

Best to take a seasoned coach. Doesn't have to be a coordinator though. Harbaugh has done ok but he inherited a very good defensive team and the building blocks for an offensive team. So don't even know how I feel about that. My opinion is to take a leader. They can hire someone like Wade and someone like Shanahan. But you have to have those inherent abilities to lead and not be led.

Generally, I do not like taking a head coach from college and putting him in charge of an NFL team. I'd like to find a young assistant with fire currently in the league and appoint him.

Only problem is we have Jason Garrett who is exactly what I described. He needed help this past season as coordinator, but head coach and coordinator are two different things, as we all know from Wade.

Stoops loves to talk tough and act like a bad ***, but he's so sensitive to the media, I don't think he could work here.

Maybe he tries to be like Parcells and bully the media, but he just comes off as a crybaby when he gets criticized. Which isn't very often to start with.

I don't hate the idea. I've never been a huge Stoops fan, but a "rah-rah" type of coach is what this team may need. We have talent, but lack emotional leadership.

He'll need lots of help though, proven coordinators on both sides of the ball. As for the positional coaches, he can bring in whoever he wants.

Stoops is vastly overrated IMO, some of that might change if he can get a W vs Florida though.

But he is a huge whiner IMO and his team chokes alot in big games, not to mention the fact he's been beaten by a number of teams they shouldnt have over the yrs and his teams were man-handled by LSU and USC in Championship games. His halftime interview running off the field against LSU was one of the most classic cases of a loser I've ever seen. As someone else mentioned, he does not handle the media that well, especially when they get critical of him. He'd never survive in the NFL and especially here where media scrutiny is so strong.

That said, I cant imagine why he'd want to leave Norman to begin with.

So are Urban Meyer, Mack Brown and Les Miles, and those guys have won the last 3 BCS National Titles

Whining isnt a bad thing in college if it helps get you votes in the polls.

Last time I checked though, we dont use a BScs system to determine a winner here.

And it still doesnt erase that halftime interview against LSU when he team was getting punked.

What exactly did he say during the halftime interview?

it might be on youtube somewhere...basically he came apart when the interviewer suggested that his team was getting killed by a team with the best defense in the country, and he started yelling about how his team had the best defense etc etc...it was pretty small on his part, as LSU defense did just dismantle his offense and past his QB bigtime

I remember Jimmy Johnson whining... almost broke out in tears when Emmitt held out and we went 0-2.

Just saying... Thanks for the info on Stoops... but anything can happen.

The things is... we have tried so many things over the last decade or so and still come up empty.

The common denominator is Jerry and his meddling.
"Bill and I will make decisions together" = I hated hearing that when Bill was here.

Judging how the Petrino and Saban experiments worked out, I'd as soon not bother.
