The Browns won 11 of the first 12 games versus the Cowboys which is why they still lead the all time series after all this time.
Jim Brown only played 9 seasons and then Bobby Mitchell replaced him as the lead back.

Actually, when Jim Brown retired Leroy Kelly became the starting running back for Cleveland. Bobby Mitchell played at Cle with Jim Brown from 1958-61, then was traded to Washington where he finished his career.

Like Jim Brown, Kelly and Mitchell were great players who eventually made the HOF.

Dominance as the deep threat moved from Jim to Mitchell to Kelly. Then Bobby went to Was;hington.

  • Until 1970 when the old AFL merged with the NFL, the Browns were part of the old NFL. In 1970, the Browns along with the Steelers left the NFL and became part of the modern AFC.

The Baltimore Colts also were in the NFL and went to the AFC with the merger.

Leroy Kelly’s in the HOF. Probably underappreciated because he followed the great Jim Brown.
Yes I remember Kelly taking over after Brown. I grew up just north of Cincinnati. So when they started in 1968, 2 of my brothers and I liked the Bengals, my other brother stuck with the Browns. and still does to this day.

Of course I was already liking the Cowboys. But follow the Bengals as well, but not nearly as close as the Cowboys.

Cool didn’t know that. Those Sipe teams were working class fun. It was hard not to like them.
Those Sipe teams featured Greg Pruitt, one of my all time favorite players. Of course he would later be traded to the Raiders where he helped do the entire football universe a huge favor in beatin the stuffins out of the Theisman led Ratscums in '84. Dude was such a talented runner.. He actually made the Pro Bowl first as kick returner.. then as a running back.. then later in his career back again as a return man in '83. The second time post ACL surgery.. which was pretty much unheard of back then.

This Sunday’s opening game vs the Browns will mark the 33rd time (including the playoffs) these two teams have met all time. To the surprise of many fans, the Browns hold the edge all-time 18-14. The browns won the last matchup in 2020, beating us 49-38 at AT&T.

Here are some interesting facts many Cowboys fans probably don’t know:
  • Until 1970 when the old AFL merged with the NFL, the Browns were part of the old NFL. In 1970, the Browns along with the Steelers left the NFL and became part of the modern AFC.
  • From 1960-66, the Browns and Cowboys played in the same division, then known as the “Eastern Conference” and the two teams played each other twice a year.
  • The Browns won 4 NFL championships between 1950 and 1964.
  • The Browns and Cowboys have played each other 3 times in the playoffs, all in the 1960s, and the Browns lead 2-1.
  • The Cowboys are 7-3 against the brownies in the last ten matchups.
  • The Cowboys are 5-13 all time playing at Cleveland, but have won 2 of their last 3 games in Cleveland.
On a personal side note, 60 years ago when I was just 6 years old, my Dad took me to my first Cowboys game in person. It was at the old Cotton Bowl and the opponent that day was the Cleveland Browns. Even though the Cowboys lost they became my favorite team. It would really be cool to watch the Cowboys win at Cleveland 60 years later. Go Cowboys!
interesting yes but it means nothing for this game coming up Sunday. Facts not even last year matter, not even PS games, odd quips and contract talk doesn't matter, not even all the FEELINGS from Fans and media about our alleged bad offseason and somehow, we didn't get better observations do NOT MATTER,

Not a Dang thing but the players going head 2 head Sunday, that's it, that all that will matter. Reality TV at its best, not knowing the outcome is why I watch.

But hey ill play, we somehow are scared of this opponent one who hasn't won a division since 1986 but we wil find out fans upset at losing in the playoffs 5 of the last 8 years with quite few division wins, and take every moment to remind us it's been 28 years since a NFCCG appearance.

right must be nice to be a Browns fan and not have bigger issues and longer droughts to complain about LOL

i remember about half the media and fan base claiming the NYG game 1 was going to be bad for us because well the NYG went to the playoffs the year before and had better offseason.. hmm 40-0 says otherwise.

The Browns were a merger team from the old AAFC. The 49ers were also part of that merger with the NFL, and eventually so were the Buffalo Bills, though they would first become part of the AFL that would merge with the NFL.

Not sure how you came away with his intention of portraying a negative or any implication the Browns and Cowboys history would have any impact on Sundays game .

Buffalo was one of the original members of AFL.

After it folded, three AAFC teams were admitted to the NFL: the 49ers, the Browns and the Colts.

There were only 3 teams which merged from old NFL to AFC after merger . Browns , Colts and Steelers.

In 1920 original year of the NFL there was 2 teams in NY (Buffalo All-Americans and Rochester Jeffersons). But there was no affiliation to the Buffalo Bills who were part of original AFL.

Of the original franchises established in 1920 only 2 remain. The Chicago Bears and Cardinals ( Chicago, St Louis & Ariz).

No, the 49ers were never part of the AFL. And Buffalo was one of the original members of AFL.

Read my post again, and this time actually pay attention to the words and use reading comprehension. I shouldn't have to dumb it down.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/All-America_Football_Conference

On December 9, 1949, two days before the AAFC title game, the two leagues made peace. Three AAFC teams were admitted to the NFL: the Browns, 49ers, and Colts. The Dons merged with the Rams,[33] while the Bills, Yankees, and Hornets folded. The enlarged league was renamed the National–American Football League.

Note - the Colts franchise folded, and is not the current Colts.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buffalo_Bills_(AAFC)

The Buffalo Bills were an American football team, based in Buffalo, New York, that played in the All-America Football Conference from 1946 to 1949. During its first season in 1946, the team was known as the Buffalo Bisons. Unlike the Cleveland Browns, San Francisco 49ers, and Baltimore Colts, the franchise was not one of the three AAFC teams that merged with the National Football League prior to the 1950 season.

McGroder would continue to lobby for an NFL team in Buffalo for the next decade. In 1959, when the American Football League proposed establishing the franchise that would ultimately also bear the Buffalo Bills name, McGroder was the first potential owner that AFL founder Lamar Hunt approached. McGroder declined the offer, still hoping that the threat of the new AFL team would be enough to provoke the NFL to stop it with the Buffalo NFL team he had hoped to receive, but Ralph Wilson, whose bid for a Miami AFL team had fallen through, accepted the bid. When it became clear that the NFL would not expand to Buffalo as McGroder had hoped, he took a position within the modern Bills organization, remaining until his retirement in 1983. The Bills entered the NFL with the rest of the AFL with the completion of the merger in 1970.

I edited my post but was correct.
I went off of memory.

And thanks for info on Buffalo Bisons and McGruder. I didn’t recall that. While he has a connection the Bisons weren’t directly an affiliation of the Bills.
