Another fun fact: the weekend JFK was assassinated, the Cowboys played the Browns.
Yep. Some newspaper headlines listed the score as “Assassins X Browns Y”. I don’t remember the actual score, but the Browns won.

interesting yes but it means nothing for this game coming up Sunday. Facts not even last year matter, not even PS games, odd quips and contract talk doesn't matter, not even all the FEELINGS from Fans and media about our alleged bad offseason and somehow, we didn't get better observations do NOT MATTER,

Not a Dang thing but the players going head 2 head Sunday, that's it, that all that will matter. Reality TV at its best, not knowing the outcome is why I watch.
Blue, who said this past history info has a huge influence on the outcome Sunday?

Brown’s career stats against Dallas in 11 games was 200 carries for 1,053 yards and eight touchdowns.

He caught 28 passes for 299 yards and two touchdowns.

Dude was a Cowboys killer in his day

On a personal side note, 60 years ago when I was just 6 years old, my Dad took me to my first Cowboys game in person. It was at the old Cotton Bowl and the opponent that day was the Cleveland Browns. Even though the Cowboys lost they became my favorite team. It would really be cool to watch the Cowboys win at Cleveland 60 years later. Go Cowboys!
thats cool. I can remember when I first starting watching football in late 60s maybe I was a Browns fan. In fact Leroy Kelly was probably my favorite players. Then I watched a game on TV when they played the dallas cowboys and the cowboy cheerleaders happened and that started me on the path of the cowboys and it has been a love hate relationship .:)

That’s cool too! I remember as a kid my two most hated teams were the packers and the browns - the first two teams who beat us in the playoffs!

that was a great defense , to win games like that , score 3 or more and they win lol.
Here are other interesting parts to this storied 1970 season:

Before beating the Browns 6-2, the two previous opponents, Washington and Green Bay, scored 0 and 3 points respectively.

Excluding the defensive score of a safety by the Lions, the Cowboys shut out three opponents in a four -week period.

In-between beating the Browns 6-2 and the Lions 5-0, they beat the Oilers 52-10. Bob Hayes scored four consecutive TD's. Three of the four went for 38 yards or more. 6-187-4TD.

The lone TD by the Oilers was a fumble return.

In essence, the Cowboys defense did not allow a TD in 5 consecutive games, the entire month of December. The 49ers finally scored a lone TD in the 3rd quarter of the NFC championship game.

The Doomsday Defense

That was the most dominant Doomsday Defense. There were 5 Hall of Famers on that defense!

My wife was born in Cleveland and lived there until she was 10. Her dad was a big Browns fan but sadly he passed away when my was ten. The family moved to southern Ohio and eventually to Texas. She’s not really a big sports fan though and doesn’t have any loyalty other than Ohio State where she graduated from college.

She’d get along with many on this board as we have a lot of buckeye fans.

Those Sipe teams featured Greg Pruitt, one of my all time favorite players. Of course he would later be traded to the Raiders where he helped do the entire football universe a huge favor in beatin the stuffins out of the Theisman led Ratscums in '84. Dude was such a talented runner.. He actually made the Pro Bowl first as kick returner.. then as a running back.. then later in his career back again as a return man in '83. The second time post ACL surgery.. which was pretty much unheard of back then.
Pruitt was Dynamite at Oklahoma! Please tell me it was Oklahoma, it’s been a looooong loooooong time.

Ha! I actually remember watching that Oilers game, was black and white for me at the time. Morton was on fire with Hayes that game. I want to say it was at the very end of the season. Would have to check but just off of my memory that’s how I would call it. Thx…

i still remember the loss at cleveland in '88...24-21.
coach landry's young bunch fought hard but just couldn't finish.
herschel ran for 134yds and a td.
defense sacked kosar 5 times.
we had a shot at the end but came up short.
coach landry mentions this game in his book...about the fight his team had...and the heart...but just hadn't learned to finish.

wasnt 1 (or 2?) of those 60s playoff that dumb, meaningless, short lived, anti climactic game for 3rd place? They should do a Peytons Place on those games

Jason Garrett grew up in Cleveland wanting to be just like Brian Sipe. Garrett picked No. 17 as a player, because that’s the number Sipe wore for the Browns from 1974-83.

I didn't know that. Just did some googling, he went to school not terribly far from where I live. Then again, a lot of stuff isn't far from where I live haha.
