Oh Joy another thread on a 30 year old RB. Everyone ranted and ranted for years about contracts and aging players, yet here we are and people want to throw 8+ million on this guy at 30 yrs old. I hope we pass and build for a long term success

I have a small feeling that Jones also didn't want to make that commitment because he believes there is a very good chance he could wind up with AP.

I think that had to have factored into the decision. They probably felt good about going with a committee of backs if needed, and got McFadden just in case, but they're likely hoping to get AP to fill that spot.

I think this comment will look a bit hypocritical when they acquire Peterson and pay him right around the same $8 million that they refused to pay Murray.

And I expect the words "special" "unique" and "opportunity" to be used at that time.

Cowboys aren't going to sign AP in my opinion. They'll use what the got and add some more via the draft and maybe UDFA.

We'll have to revisit this when Peterson's situation is ultimately resolved.

That's definitely what I think.

Yeah, I think that's the key word involved when they essentially refute their previous statements.

If AP is special (which he is) and hasn't been injury prone like Murray has, is it spin or just being accurate?

CCBoy used "hooah" in his post, which is Army slang that means anything but "no", but is most often used as a statement of strong agreement, and xvendetta corrected the term to "oorah" which is Marine Corps slang used to demonstrate motivation...just a little bit of good ol' interservice rivalry being demonstrated by xvendetta...and he's right...the Marine Corps is and always has been way superior to the Army. :D

But not injury risk. Peterson has played many seasons without injury. That would be the difference.

Yep, that's why the Army taught the Marines about the tank all the way through ANCOC. Both were quality Veterans.

Alas...the Chinese gave us our nicknames: dogfaces. But who named the jarheads?

Good stuff, gentlemen...check, roger, HOOOAH!

And so the position is one you have to take into consideration no matter what the skill level is, they take a lot of hits, lot of punishment, and you got a good chance to have an injury issue. And that’s why we couldn’t make that kind of commitment of dollars to that position.

I keep seeing them refer to 'position' rather than 'player'.

In this same conversation he sited Murray being healthy 2 out of 8 years going back to college. Player not position. Just this week in vid on the team site SJ talked about guys like Emmitt did it from day one unlike Murray. IE you pay guys who are special players not just have one special year in a contract year.

There are exceptions to every rule. If Suh was at 27 we would take him and play him at 1 in a hearbeat. We'd do it if were picking 5-15 as well.

I prefer Devil Dog - the moniker was used by German soldiers to describe U.S. Marines who fought in the Battle of Belleau Wood in 1918. The Marines fought with such ferocity that they were likened to "Dogs from Hell.

Always my favorite.

Oh I'm not disputing the difference between Murray and Peterson, far from it. In fact, you'd be hard-pressed to find a bigger champion for getting Peterson than me. My point is that the reasons given for not paying Murray - referencing the position - will look hypocritical when they decide to pay another guy - at that same position, the money they didn't think the position was worth.

YR, in your signature when Steve Dennis says, "I don't have to be the bad guy here" where is here?

It was when he was on his TV show. He said that to Keith Brooking. And is admitting that he plays a 'role'...the bad guy at other outlets that he works at, but can play the 'good guy' on his old TV show. In essence, he was more or less like an old pro wrestling character working thru the territories portraying a sports journalist.

But the reasons sited in this conversation with Jerry are not the only reasons they have sited.

Thanks for the explanation. I thought it was a military term, but I remember the expression used in a Scent of a Woman. Or maybe something close to it.
