Interesting nugget of Eberflus scheme ( breakdown)

I wonder if he will target a high level safety and linebacker early on? I still think DT remains the biggest defensive need even if Osa resigns.
Well he will be one of a dozen who will be offering Jerry suggestions

Something to keep in mind........ask yourself which positions are now missing starters due to free agency. By my count, we 6 open starting positions. The questions are how to fill......draft, free agency, backups.

WR #2
RB
RG
DT
MLBer
CB
I'm sure we are going to see some of Their players come in Do we have the S to play his style?

Sometimes you have to cook with what’s in the kitchen lol I just hope we add a solid DT. I hope Jerry doesn’t bet on drafting one. They are hard to draft. Sign a solid DT in FA abd if one does fall in your lap, take him too
Maybe they will take a good look at that while they take a look at FA.

Honestly IMO I think they will roll with Hoffman at RG (although he needs to improve he was pretty good) Bass as the swing guard, they might pickup someone later in the draft to develop.

At CB, they were high on Carson, then Oruwariye showed promise, then Butler played quite well until they were all hurt and put on IR. Those 3 will be back then they might resign Lewis. Then of course you add Bland and Diggs and the CB room is pretty full once you add some guys for training camp. I personally don't see CB as a huge need, same with S.

Eliminate those 2 positions from your list of needs and it becomes doable IF the front office is proactive....who knows if they will be or not.

This is the bend but dont break Marinelli scheme with small DTs

This scheme will ‘succeed’ against the bottom feeders but the top QBs and teams that run the ball well will kill us

Sound familiar?

Look good in regular season
Stink in playoffs

Sound familiar?
Exactly. History has shown this, so why would you go back to it?

Slot corner, but Diggs is expected to miss time into next season. So Slot and Outside corner. A versatile corner like Texas Barron makes sense can play both inside/outside.
Training camp!

I agree, but they will end up giving OO a big contract and coupled with using a first on Mazi (as if they could never bust) figure the position is fine.

What makes me nuts….is if OO played for another team they would never even consider giving him the money he will get….or even know who he was.

They INSIST on bringing back exactly what they already know doesn’t work…but I guess that’s about staying relevant.

matt had that colts defense going, now he can just focus on the defense you will see him making the defense strong

If they want to win they have to play in FA. They don’t have to sell the farm but positions you aren’t likely to draft a starter quality player you have to spend on. DT is one they have to. Osa is gone and we were already this at DT

They have zero depth at the position and OSA outside of this yr, tends to ware down. Mind you they will be paying him 20 million when he has averaged 3 sacks per year in his career.

Boo. Never a fan of these DC’s who flat you say “this is how we are going to line up” and don’t even think about doing something to confuse the QB.

Yeah this whole “scheme breakdown” needs to be thrown in the trash. I’ve never seen a breakdown video talking up a defense while half the plays being reviewed are 5+ yard gains.

It’s a classic bend don’t break type of scheme. This is going to be a more vanilla defense than even what Zimmer ran this year. Eberflus was a phenomenal position coach but he’s pretty much the defensive version of Jason Garrett.

Odd take.....we are not asking to be a head coach like Garrett. His track record as DC is solid.

In his first season, the Colts went from No. 30 in scoring and total defense to Nos. 10 and 11, respectively. In three of his four seasons, the Colts had a top-10 scoring defense and twice they were top 10 in yards.5 hours ago

Eberflus began his NFL career with the Cleveland Browns as linebackers coach. He then spent seven seasons with the Dallas Cowboys as a linebackers coach and passing game coordinator.

Later on, Eberflus served as the Colts’ defensive coordinator from 2018-2021. He inherited an Indy defense that ranked 30th in the NFL in scoring and total yards the previous season. During his first year, he helped the unit improve to 10th in scoring and 11th in yards.

Under Eberflus’ guidance, the Colts were the league’s only defense to rank in the top 10 in scoring, run defense, and takeaways in each of the 2020 and 2021 seasons. They also finished in the top 10 in run defense and takeaways in all four of his seasons with Indianapolis

I’m not saying he didn’t have success as a DC, I’m just referring to their approaches. Eberflus like Garrett is a pretty basic scheme, just beat your man type of coordinator.

That can work in this league if you have great players, but was hoping for a DC that liked to play more aggressively with their blitz looks and let their DBs challenge receivers 1v1.

I just don’t think a heavy rush 4 with cover 2/3 behind it maximizes the better players on this defense. Maybe eberflus will surprise me and adapt to the strength of this defense, I’m just not very optimistic about it.
