I’m not saying he didn’t have success as a DC, I’m just referring to their approaches. Eberflus like Garrett is a pretty basic scheme, just beat your man type of coordinator.

That can work in this league if you have great players, but was hoping for a DC that liked to play more aggressively with their blitz looks and let their DBs challenge receivers 1v1.

I just don’t think a heavy rush 4 with cover 2/3 behind it maximizes the better players on this defense. Maybe eberflus will surprise me and adapt to the strength of this defense, I’m just not very optimistic about it.

I will say this........no way in hell Jerry's going to pay Parsons $35-40M and let a DC turn him into an ordinary player. This is why I'm not too concerned about the D. Jerry will make damn sure it's top 10-15 min IMO coz his money is on the line. I guess we will see but he has a proven track record have a solid run defense.

BWT .........Someone just mentioned the reason he was hired ( instead of Zimm ) coz the Bears are still playing him. Jerry would have had to give Zimm a new 3-year deal. Interesting take......lol

He did bring in DT Billings (311lbs) at Chicago...I wouldn't necessarily call him light. When Eberflus left for Indy we knew we lost a good one, and he was looked at as the "next" DC in waiting. But now half of you is crying about him. He did a good job with turning the Colts defense around and that was with sub par talent...made them over achievers. The issue he had was consistency due to the lack of talent.

Eberflus began his NFL career with the Cleveland Browns as linebackers coach. He then spent seven seasons with the Dallas Cowboys as a linebackers coach and passing game coordinator.


Later on, Eberflus served as the Colts’ defensive coordinator from 2018-2021. He inherited an Indy defense that ranked 30th in the NFL in scoring and total yards the previous season. During his first year, he helped the unit improve to 10th in scoring and 11th in yards.

Under Eberflus’ guidance, the Colts were the league’s only defense to rank in the top 10 in scoring, run defense, and takeaways in each of the 2020 and 2021 seasons. They also finished in the top 10 in run defense and takeaways in all four of his seasons with Indianapolis

And he that with a Colts team that was lacking talent...sure he had Leanord, and Rhoads, but when he got Buckner things started to gel. Made Autry a pretty decent DE.

Chicago had pretty big guys at DT this year. I think he likes guys that can move and penetrate, size being a plus.

I wonder if he will target a high level safety and linebacker early on? I still think DT remains the biggest defensive need even if Osa resigns.

Yeah, my fear is that it won't be if Osa re-signs because he'll be getting starter DT money.

I'd like to see us re-sign Odighizuwa and bring in two early DT picks instead of digging in the garbage bin for rotation players. Let the young guys sort out with the veterans (Osa and Mazi) who gets the inside snaps.

We have terrible depth even with OSA. If we e are moving back to a bend don’t break scheme, we are going to need a deep rotation
