Is this some kind of joke? Cutler isn't perfect but he's one of the best young qbs in the league. Chicago is darn lucky to get the guy, they haven't had anyone of his calibur in decades.

He's dead serious. Think about it this way. Comparing Cutler to Grossman is like comparing Romo to Quincy Carter. And he's doing it with a straight face. He even had the idea of using the regular season record of Grossman and Orton to suggest his theory.

When they played to their potential, (the games that come to mind right away are the first three, and @ Wash) we were very hard to beat.

It all starts up front thats for sure.

The problem is for the most part they only played up to their potential vs bad teams like Cleveland. The only good defense that I remember the Oline playing well against, is Philly (in Dallas obviously :)).

Or you could argue that his statistics are incredibly subjective and completely useless given that it's impossible to know, with much level of certainty, blocking assignments.

I suppose he could do a halfway decent job, but this is getting out of control. On each play, depending on the defense's alignment, there are several different ways a play gets blocked. At best Joyner could quickly assess individual matchups won - see who the OL locks up with and whether or not he "beat" him. Anything better than that would take unreal amounts of time.

I don't disagree with his assesment of how our line played, the interior was awful, but he might need to dial it back a little bit on his stats.

And it would still be a waste of time if he didn't know who was supposed to block who. Gurode had to cover quite a bit for Proctor, I am assuming. So if he's still in his stance and Gurode has to go out of his way to block the defender who beats him to sack Romo, he gets that "loss"? It is a waste of time, as big of a waste of time and energy I have ever seen in regards to bean counting as there is.

I don't disagree with his assesment of how our line played, the interior was awful, but he might need to dial it back a little bit on his stats.

That is part of his problem, he is using them to justify literally everything and that is a huge misrepresentation of things that are possible to be validated through numbers.

It makes for good chit-chat but is flimsy at best in terms of providing evidence for an opinion. The same thing could be said without the disingenuous inclusion of statistical nonsense.

I think the first Washington game proved how mentally weak that team was. We were rolling along, hit a bump, and went into a stall. I think the Kosier injury played a large role in that. We just need to stay fairly healthy and we can look like those early games last year, but like you said that Philly game was beautiful.

A little side note about that Philly game last year...it is one of my favorite Cowboy games of all time.

We were SO hyped early in the year, it was a primetime game, and it was a straight shootout which just added to it. In that type of game with that atmosphere, I dont care about defense. Just get those points on the scoreboard and light it up. We looked absolutely unstoppable for the year.

It had everybody talking about us even more, but the part I remember the most, is me and my buddies went out Tuesday night and I of course wore my Cowboys hat. I swear I was king **** for the night with that hat. It was the best and most successful ice breaker with the ladies thats for sure haha.

This is exactly why stats don't explain everything in football. Every time I looked at the line play, I saw Bigg and Gurode (with Culombo in double teams to a lesser extent) get a lot of movement on defensive tackles.

I urge anybody who has the games to watch Gurode one on one against Haloti Ngata, especially for those who claim that a 340 lb NT is the end all, be all. He molested Ngata in quite a few plays in that game.

If Kosier was our worst lineman, and that statistically bad, how come we had our best run blocking games when he was in there?

Proctor a better run blocker than Gurode and Bigg? :laugh2:

Now that's just WRONG!

Besides, I thought that was the Proctor's job. :D

I'd like to see the numbers if you throw out the Brad Johnson games. It has to have made a difference for teams to know they could just run blitz and still contain the passing game.

I'm not sure I trust their rankings very much, if at all (for various reasons), but ProFootballFocus.com graded our offensive linemen's run blocking this way --

1. Davis 10.4
2. Gurode 9.2
3. Holland 2.7
4. Colombo 2.4
5. Adams 1.4
6. Kosier 0.0
7. Procter -4.2
