As of today (i.e. the Monday Night game is not factored in), The Cowboys are:

10th points scored
10th points allowed,
6th yds gained
6th yds allowed
-1 on turnovers

Given our 3-3 record it would be hard to be more statiscally average than that.

The good news, given our potential momentum and easier schedule ahead, I expect to see all 5 of those stats and our record start to tilt to the positive side.

You're right about the numbers likely improving, but considering there are 32 teams, this isn't exactly average.

8th best puts you in the top Quartile. You average all those rankings together and that's what you get.

You would expect a team with a top quartile ranking to have at least a 4-2 record after 6 games, maybe 5-1.

You're correct when comparing to the rest of the league. I guess my choice of words was not accurate. I was referring to the fact that we are equally balanced on both sides of the ball in performance (or moreso, it was just interesting that the stats were identical in each of the categories).

We're one of few who are top 10 in yards and yards allowed. The real room for improvement is all on offense since they have given up several of the "defensive" scores counted on us and have sputtered in the re zone. With Romo and the receivers finally healthy and hopefully an improved running game, we should score more and turn it over less. This helps both our points scored and points allowed.

We have a real chance to become one of the better teams in the NFL, assuming we can continue to improve upon the mistakes.

On the plus side it means we are capable of beating anyone and have played better than our record indicates.

On the down side it says we haven't been able to win games where we outplayed the opponent.

I do believe the schedule as well as early injuries held us back a bit and things bode well going forward.

I no longer hide my eyes when we kick field goals so that is a plus.

I do like where we are. The one thing we need to improve on is turnover ratio. It's been getting better on defense but the offense still gives it up too often.

I hope it starts against the Eagles. If we can win the turnover battle, we probably win.

And then you remember the team also played the second-toughest schedule in the league to earn those rankings, and 3-3 makes pretty good sense.

Surprised we're still negative on TO ratio. I'd have thought we were slightly ahead of the game there.

Seems that some that are harping on the OP only noticed we were top 10 in points scored and yards gained and failed to notice that we are also top 10 in points allowed and yards allowed.

I will say this, I believe these numbers will start tipping so that we are at least as good or better in the offensive categories, and much better in the defensive categories. I believe our defense has been better than 10th in points allowed and 6th in yards allowed indicates. I believe some inconsistencies on offense, as well as some costly turnovers are having a big impact on those numbers.

Also its worth noting that some of our points scored can be been directly attributed to our defense, whereas some of our points allowed can be dircetly attribtubed to out offense.

Only on a Cowboys forum, in the last couple of years, could being top 10 mean average.

I guess you did not read my other post where I admitted it was a poor choice of words and not the message I was trying to convey.
