Reminds me of the Chance Warmack debate a few years ago.

Good analysis of the historical range of LB's similar to Jack. I do think he will probably go higher this year since there isn't as much high end talent at the top of the draft. But compared to past drafts you'd be getting a 10-15 caliber player, of course that may hold true for most of the players in the top 10 this year.

I cannot say I recall the particulars of that one.

Warmack measured a little over 6-1 or 6-2 IIRC. Shorter guards dont tend to get drafted high to mid first where Dallas was drafting. He went earlier and a lot of people here wanted him in the first as a pet cat.

Myles Jack is a chase/cover LB in my viewpoint. Not a pass rusher. You could also say that he is not much of, or was asked to, be a playmaker. His tackles for loss should tell you about what he was asked to do, just as much as his sack totals.

He is not projected as a pass rushing OLB in a 3-4 defense like Miller would be playing pass rushing OLB in the pros.

This

Well that year both Cooper and Warmack went in the top 10.

Every draft is different and so is this one as we should all be learning by now.

That is why it is a bit of a stretch to say Player X is worth it and players at position Y are not worth taking in the top 10, etc.

Right now, it still needs some fleshing out in terms of value and pecking order. Which I am sure will start happening soon.

You really have to let this argument go. As others have said, Jack and Miller played very different roles for their respective college clubs.

If you want a more accurate representation of what Myles Jack projects to, look at Derrick Brooks. He was another undersized linebacker when he came out, but he was a fluid sideline to sideline athlete with chase down speed. He was one of the most important cogs in those dominant Tampa Bay defenses and he is the defining presence for a coverage linebacker in a Cover-2 zone scheme.

Jack seems like a good fit with WOLB in this scheme. So what about Sean Lee if you take him?

Yup. Interesting discussion too.
They have combined for 0 Pro Bowls through 6 seasons.
Perhaps Guards should never go top 10.

NFL teams do dumb things.
See the Raiders drafting a Kicker round 1, lol.

But that was a top heavy offensive line draft. Just the way it is sometimes.

sort of agree.

yes, every draft is different.

but no teams should create overriding principles and stick to those where possible not go in with zero ideals to a draft.

anyone that says you can't take punter or kicker in r1 admits there are inherent positional scores and biases.
once you understand that you are graduated to adult status.
now it's just up to teams to build that positional bias into drafting.

without it few teams would ever have a decent qb.

Agreed. Myles Jack is to Derrick Brooks as Von Miller is to Derrick Thomas. Both Derricks (both OLB) but skill sets are very different.

I'm just trying to figure out how/why height matters so much to a LB...6'1 is considered great size for a coverage CB/S, but a LB needs to be taller for some reason? I could see if it was a Sean Lee case where he lacks bulk to stay on the field or if he was 5'9, but we're really discussing 6'1 245 as being too small? Seems like a whole lot of overthinking going on if you ask me.

But that was a top heavy offensive line draft. Just the way it is sometimes.

Sheldon Richardson, Sly Williams and Star Lotelui went after them....
We got all-pro Fredbeard at the end of the round.

Dallas has TWO better OGs then them.

Do NOT draft OGs top 10:)

Bad draft utilization.
Vasquez and Turner were both 3rd rounders at OG while the above DTs(Sly and Star) were R1. They all started the Super Bowl.
That's smart draft utilization:)
