Internet Explorer Users Are Kinda Stupid, Study Suggests

If you use Internet Explorer, your IQ might be below average--at least, according to one study.

AptiQuant, a "psychometric consulting" firm that provides hiring exams for businesses, gave online IQ tests to more than 100,000 people. Visitors arrived either through organic searches or through advertisements on other sites, and Aptiquant made a note of which browser each test taker was using.

On average, Internet Explorer users fared the worst, with IE6 users at the bottom of the pile and IE8 users performing slightly better. Firefox, Chrome and Safari fell in the middle with little difference between them. IE with Chrome Frame and Camino landed on top, along with Opera, whose users scored the highest (on average).

"The study showed a substantial relationship between an individual's cognitive ability and their choice of web browser," AptiQuant concluded. "From the test results, it is a clear indication that individuals on the lower side of the IQ scale tend to resist a change/upgrade of their browsers."

I kind of figured that most people that use IE now are either because of a few reasons.

They are older (in age) but newer in the PC exp. So they just use what browser is there. They also might have some time with the computer over the years but just don't change anything. Just like there are a few people out there still using older (98 or back) versions of windows.

Another situation might be a work place that does not let the users to download software so they are just stuck using IE or a unix based system.

I used to use Opera. Except for occasional incompatibilities, it was the superior browser experience by far. The problem was, Opera kept screwing with a good thing rather than just fixing the incompatibilities. After 10 years of using Opera, I finally dropped it and use Chrome and Firefox. (I use both at the same time)

Pretty much the same for me.

Loved opera but they kind of dropped the ball on some things.

Moved to Fire fox and still use it for my main work browser.

For just internet browsing (home and work) I use Google.

There are a couple of work sites I use IE but only because the sites are kind of old and quirky with some other browsers.

I use Chrome exclusively. I like the tab/favorites layout and it's far and away the fastest browser. Rarely do you come across a compatibility issue.

What's the article say? Link doesn't work in IE.

It works...You just don't know how to work it because of your IQ issues using IE. :p: ;)

OTOH, us few remaining Netscape users are exceedingly bright.

Lowbrow. ;)

They definitely have the best browser for Android, though.

I still use IE primarily, but I also use FireFox for specific sites.

I have all the browsers downloaded to make sure all the websites I work on navigate properly.

I've got a work app that actually requires Netscape to run properly. Weirdest thing.

I've tried it once but it felt bloated. I will try it again. Right now I use xScope. Have you tried xScope?

I cannot stress enough to swap those browsers around and use Firefox and only IE on specific sites.

I do not allow IE to be used here at the office except for sites like the CME/NYMEX that only work in IE.

A new guy who started about a week ago, didn't seem to get the memo and had a virus on his third day. He doesn't think I'm very friendly anymore. ;)

People are actually PAID to study this nonsense? Who cares what browsers people use on the internet?

The damn PC ships w/ Internet Explorer preinstalled. It works. It isn't for everyone, but is is certainly fine when used by your NORMAL users from home and work.

Saying someone has a lower IQ because they use IE is laughable. I have worked with some seriously incompetent engineers using Firefox and Chrome.

:laugh2: Oh stop.

If your organization invested in proper security measures on its WAN like say Bluecoat and CSA, you wouldn't care what browsers users used.

I'd rather not.. I don't particular care for IE9, but IE isn't bad for me. I don't get the viruses that others get cuz I don't troll a bunch of questionable sites.

Additionally, something about working in IT, even on the lower scale that I do gives me enough savvy on how to protect my computer.

IE=FireFox in my book.

But you do troll a site (CZ) with questionable people on it! :laugh2:

:D It makes our network really really secure, but really really boring. My users hate me. I block nearly everything that isn't work related.

Games
News
Sports
Social Networking
Dating Sites
PRON
Proxy's - (got some users think they smarter than us...ha)
File Sharing Sites
etc

Some users try and waiver around me and I LOL even louder. It's nice having the governors policy in my back pocket.

"Don't make me use this SUCKA!"

btw: I allow all kinds of things for myself. That's how us sysadmins roll.

You know...for "testing" purposes. :D
