I've ruled out IE here and the only time I've ever had virus on the network is when someone is using IE when they aren't supposed too.

When I first arrived and took over the IT department, IE was used and the entire network was riddled with viruses and malware. First thing I did was eliminate the use of IE. (yes, even before setting up a centralized corporate AV server) That is the biggest POS of insecure software. (especially the older versions) IE was fundamentally flawed in it's design. Initially it had almost no security features. Everything was bolted on from the outside after the fact. When they released 7 they tried to change it, but IE7 broke so much crap that it was unusable. (this was my last company that attempted to switch)

I choose to not even offer it's use. It isn't worth it. Not only that, it's design is still utter crap. I host an online trading platform that is built on AJAX where a browser can receive updates from 5-10 times per second and updates prices. Firefox and Chrome are easily 5x to 50x faster (from 12-50ms replies to 250-600ms replies) because IE's HTTPS and keepalive are a horrendous un-fixable train-wreck.

If you want to *think* IE is a safe browser; by all means do so, but you are doing a disservice spreading that around to people who don't know any better.

I still can't figure out why anyone would *purposely* choose IE over almost any other browser.

I only use IE when I wipe it and reinstall the OS to download FF and updates. After that I don't use it.

At work I have no choice but to use IE. Our main application doesn't work with FF or our programmers haven't made it work with it. :laugh2:

I use Chrome exclusively. I like the tab/favorites layout and it's far and away the fastest browser. Rarely do you come across a compatibility issue.

I think a few years back you mentioned using Chrome on a thread and I checked it out. Been using it exclusively ever since.

Good choice, even safari or firefox are much sexier choices than EI.

Where I'm at now, my connection is very slow. And this Opera browser still seems very fast on my mac.

Daaaang. It just seems fast.

I like it already.

What you mean the 20 question online IQ tests are not accurate? ;)

As much as I'd like them to be, no.

On a serious note, rocking Opera until another move soon is great. Where I'm at, they don't really have what I call high speed. But this thing is really tweaked.

Loving Opera and I think I'm hooked.

I use Chrome 99% of the time. I use Firefox for what Chrome cannot do, like Discover card's Secure Online Account app (only works with FF and IE).

Sheesh I remember creating install discs with nLite on XP simply to remove IE and Outlook. You could get away with it as long as you left the core of IE on your system, since at the time Windows / IE fed off one another and you almost couldn't do without having IE installed.
