As Justice of the peace, an elected official, he doesn't have the right to deny people of their constitutional rights, so he should just step aside and conduct marriage ceremonies from some other aspect, though I don't think a religious one is fitting.

Times are changing; It is not uncommon to see interracial relationships and it is becoming more and more accepted, especially in the younger generations.

I focus on IR relationships all the time since I'm in one. You will get evil glances every now and then, but for the majority its just a common thing.

I don't think this is necessarily racist. Ignorant, stupid, and apparently illegal (I haven't taken the effort to find out if this is the case)? Sure. Prejudice, and discriminatory? Maybe. Racist? I don't think so. Of course the terms racism/racist are thrown around so much that the actual meaning of the words have long been forgotten by most. Not everything involving race in some fashion is racist or racism, even if it's negative.

The man hasn't really said or done anything to indicate preference, or favoritism, or promotion of any race, and he has neither demeaned or defamed a race.

The comment about black friends I'm sure is in response to the knee jerk racist accusations that he received instead of the moron, ******, stupid, idiot, etc. comments that he should be receiving.

So while the concerns he expressed as his reasoning for what he did may have been ignorant, outdated, illogical, and just plain stupid, that does not necessarily mean he has a harsh or negative view of or feelings for any particular race or races.

He may very well be a full on racist, but I don't believe you can take anything that has come out on this so far as definitive evidence that he is anything more than just an old ignorant ******.

You don't think this is racial discrimination? I'd think the fact that he's asking them whether they are a mixed race couple, and refusing to marry them if they are, pretty much seals the deal as far as that's concerned. His decision is based on race, therefore I'd consider it racism.
