Realistically his best shot is Special Teams and earning a spot as the 6th WR. The Cowboys are likely to draft another WR early to go along with Dez, TWill, Beasley and Harris. Byrd more than likely will be fighting for a spot with a backup S or CB on STs. Sounds like a good athlete with upside - I wish him the best.

Marques Colston/Round 7/pick 252/Hofstra; I wonder how many considered him a camp body.

Yep ... one success out of several thousand.

Reminds me of my students who believe they're going to be NBA stars, yet were not even recruited by a Divison III college. They quote some obscure NBA player who made it to the big show without a college commitment.

I wish the guy luck, but won't be expecting too much.

I hope we don't draft a WR early, and this may be a move to prevent that.

We have bigger holes to fill.

Byrd may not have done a thing yet, but at least he's been in the league, has the measurables, and has the attitude. He's probably as safe a bet as a third rounder. BTW, he was academic all-ACC in '08, and has never been arrested -- RKG.

Good hands, speed, and determination can go a long way in my opinion.

So can a feel good article this time of year. We'll hear all kinds of how he lights it up in practice too.

I'll remain hopeful cause, again, that's all we have.

I can understand not signing the praises of this young man, really do not get the negative comments being thrown at him by Cowboy fans. at 6'04" 220 with 4.45 speed he certainly worth taking a look at. I guess some are just negative people in life.

Yes, the negative tide is turning in our favor!!! YAY!

in your favor? Those who only see darkness do not see much at all. Byrd is a young WR who will be going to camp but for some fans it is a chance to rip a guy yeah damn fine fans we have. lol

I edited my post and changed it. I didn't rip him. I just want to wait and see if he makes the team. Not like I said he was evil.

I see love everywhere, I don't have dark thoughts. Ask anyone that knows me.

"New Cowboys WR to get cut in camp should be the headline." No did not say he was evil nor anything about wait and see.

As much as we could easily accommodate a tall WR with good hands and speed, this signing looks to be a good thing. He comes cheaply with nice upside. It'd be amazing if he turned out be reminiscent of Laurent Robinson. I know, it sounds like a pipe dream but it'd surely be a dream come true if it came to fruition. You never know . . . surprises can and do happen every now and then.

A year's worth of training with Larry Fitzgerald as an examble is not bad at all. That guy is super legit, and a bona fide RKG to boot. Hopefully Byrd shows up and shows enough to be worth keeping. If not, at least he gets his picture taken in a Cowboys uniform.

maybe garrett can get trained by fitz as well? oh wait, JG is in training for defense this year...my bad

(sorry, had to do this :D)

This is why I laugh at folks who talk about JJ and Red haters. JJ is the reason Red can't succeed. Even if he gets better JJ will take all the credit...

Is this another Will McClay find? We need to find out now so the anti Garrett and anti Jerry people will have someone to give credit to if this team actually hammers out a winning season.

What would that have to do with Byrd?

And I think the anti-Jerry, anti-Garrett people have reason to be. Have you looked at the results lately?

There was an article posted in here a few days ago recognizing McClay as the guy finding players like Laurent Robinson, George Selvie, Fiametta and a few others, I wonder if this is another one of his finds where we get a good player for a year, I hope so. Plus theres "banker fans" that don't like either Jerry or Garrett and it's gonna be tough on em if the Cowboys manage to have a good year and they have no one else to give credit to. Just a little cynicism ugly as it may be not trying to take away any ones right to be unhappy with those guys.

I know McClay has done a good job finding street FA's recently. Also I'll gladly give credit where credit is due. That's why Jerry gets the bulk of the credit for the last 18 years. Also know some don't like the fact that Jimmy is rightfully credited with being the key behind building the SB wins. But it's not like Jerry hasn't had his chances. Unfortunately "his way" has only brought us 1 playoff win in 18 years.
