Interviewing while in the playoffs?

I think coaches can take some time to do what they want after working a long day. So long as it doesn't interfere with their current job which is why it's done after work on zoom so there is no travel.

When you're business is public, that's different. If your kids Teacher (assuming you have kids) while in the school year says to the kids "I'm looking for another job" that might not go so well with everyone.

Normally I might agree. That's the case for most jobs but not the NFL. With 32 total spots open if you get an invite to interview then you do that especially if you are a young guy who is still proving himself as a coach. Quinn is different he has the resume to be able to turn down an offer like he did. Moore may not get another offer, these guys run hot and cold and it can change in a second.

Anyone else think this is wrong and a big distraction to a current active season?

Not really….you can do a FaceTime after practice hours. I’m sure the guy being interviewed sets the time.

The solution is simple. Wait until the playoffs / SB are finished before allowing any interviews or hires. Problem solved

It used to be that way. Teams in the playoffs could not be interviewed until after they were eliminated.
Then it became at least the team could deny it until after they were eliminated.

I think you guys would feel differently if you were looking to replace your crappy coaches, who are not crappy like mine.

Actually, no we wouldn't. How is it fair to be interviewing coaches when they should be preparing their team for the next game? It takes time to prepare a team for a new opponent. This is another crummy solution for a problem that didn't really exist.

As a fan that logs many hours a week seat time and discussion it bothers me. It's only been, what 26 years? I've been a member here 14 years. I'm all for people bettering themselves, just don't call in the middle of something important. It's almost rude. :(

I have no issue with it.....all the contenders will have this issue. Everyone is going to one to poach a coach off of these playoff teams.

Yes, we would.

Have you seen the Kellen Moore interview threads? There’s quite a few people saying stuff like “Permission granted” or “Please take the boy wonder”.

We're not talking about just Kellen Moore

I don’t like it
The playoff game should be the job interview
Focus on performing not talking

The point was that some of us wouldn’t be complaining if a team interviewed a coach we didn’t like, which is 100% true. There are people who don’t care about the interview rule when it comes to those guys (like Kellen Moore).

Yeah, but Dan Quinn may have several suitors. Chicago, Denver and others. He needs to concentrate on getting his defense ready, not prepping for job interviews.

How much time do you think it takes for them to conduct a cyber interview? It's not like they're taking time away from their prep to interview. They would not do that nor would the interviewing GM's want that kind of coach.

These coaches are not installing new systems for the season this week, they are prepping and tweaking for this upcoming opponent.

The idea is a fair and level field for all of the coaches and not making GM's wait to interview prospects or coaches in the playoffs worry that opportunities are passing him by while he's preparing. It also keeps everyone on the up and up and no secret interviews unless a team is asking a HC to make a lateral move and give up some picks for him.

They used to make them wait and they found it wasn't serving the coaches or teams with openings. The NFL is all about advancement within the ranks of their coaching, it is the lifeblood of their game.

Every team has the right to refuse for their coaches to be interviewed but do you think one would do that without talking to that coach upfront?

Would those of you upset by this feel the same way if this was reversed and a guy we really want is still in the playoffs?
