This is intriguing to me. I think my wife would love something like this as it would more easily fit in a purse.

If they can get it in the $200-250 range, as reported, it would kill the Fire and Nook, particularly after they've gone through an iteration and can price older models in the $99 spot.

So they basically want to sell a small, medium and large?

I get the small and Large. I don't get all three.

One would think that either the medium or large would be the dominant tablet size instead of having two for the tablet.

Unless they are just making a limited number of mediums or just making them to order or something.

Just seems a little too redundant to me but if it sells more power to them.

If I understand correctly from looking at the pictures:

Large = Current iPad form factor
Medium = Proposed 7" iPad
Small = iPod touch / iPhone form factor

That's what it appears to be.

Don't know if those are actually in the works or a fan driven thing.

Also consider the rumors that the newer Iphone will be a tad larger screen size...again just rumors.

I guess I understand that some might want something a little in the middle but I just don't know if it would make sense to go into full production for a few people.

Than again I guess they got different sized hard drives on the phones and tablets so it's not something that is completely new.

The iPad mini will be announced in September. The exact size isn't known with absolute certainty, but there's very credible sourcing going on. Basically it's all but certain it'll be announced and will be in this size range.

The purpose is to stamp out the Nook/Fire/Nexus 7 market. No competitors have been able to break into the tablet market at the "full size" end of the spectrum. Where competitors have had success is in the smaller, cheaper version around the 7" size. This size range is great for reading books and surfing the net, and much easier to handle for most pocket books. So Apple is trying to shore up this market as well.

At that price and size I would buy one IMMEDIATELY.

I could never follow through on buying an iPad because I know I'd use it to surf the web a lot and then I'd be better with a MacBook air. I always find myself confused and unable to make a decision.

There's always a customer to appeal to. 'Fun size' anything and it's just another option for the consumer.

Build it and they will come

I think there are a LOT of people with this same thought process.

Typical apple, someone created a market for something (medium sized tablet) and now they are going to swoop in and "magically" invent it and it'll be "innovative" and every tech blogger with a below room iq level will wonder why no one did it before.

I have a Fire.

Don't particularly use it a lot but still have it.

I'd be interested in a iPad mini. The OS is what really makes it for me.

Don't you always hate people that create a better mousetrap?

This is probably a better stop-gap for the user that wants to get an iPad and a Laptop, whereas quite a few people were using an iPad as an excuse for skipping the laptop.

Personally, I think the current iPad is the perfect size. I wouldn't want a smaller screen.

no, just the blind people who fail to see that something isn't as original as is stated. Nothing wrong with innovation, just a bunch of garbage when said innovators are being out innovated and start using litigation instead ;)

I missed where someone said it was an original idea.

I guess you have missed all the lawsuits that Apple has filed vs. Samsung saying Samsung has infringed on their layout on smartphones and what not. Even though there are previous models of Samsung phones that have that very same layout before the iPhone was ever introduced.
