Two nights ago (last friday) me, my future wife and a couple of friends went to see Iron Maiden live in their italian date of the monumental Somewhere Back in Time World Tour.

It was my 16th time seeing Maiden :D and, as you can easily understand, their are my favourite band. Even this time it has been a great, enjoying concert, and a stunning performance by the band. The show was based from their egyptian production of the middle 80's with the scenography taken from the World Slavery tour and many songs from the superb Powerslave, Somewhere in time and 7th Son of a 7th Son...Huge!

I was also excited 'cause it was the first time for my girl and I was astonished when we reached the stage to see her makin' a great 'pogo' jumping and headbanging durin 'Fear of the Dark' and 'Iron Maiden' :p: . What a sweat :D

Anyway, another time I must say that, IMHO, you can't say to have seen a show if you haven't yet seen Iron Maiden playing live...
Just wanted to share this feelings with you

My buddy just went to watch them a few weeks ago at Madison Square Garden in New York City...said it was amazing.

I'm jealous, it sounds like this has been a great tour for them.

Man time flies.
I saw Maiden back in '83, for Number of the Beast, then two nights at Radio City for Powerslave. Maiden was my number one back in those day's and you could find one my 'Eddie' drawings in any given spot in school.

I got busted for drawing the complete 'Killers' album cover on a desk top. I was long gone, but everyone knew who drew it. The teacher loved the drawing, but made me stay after and wash the desk, regardless.

Thanks for posting the pics; my cousins went to the MSG and PNC (New Jersey) shows a couple of weeks ago and asked me to come along, but I passed.

Max respect man  you're a great! The first time I saw Maiden was in 1986, december, during the Somewhere on tour.
:laugh2: great anecdote about your drawing. And you chose an absolutely great cover :D

I don't know about that, I can't match your 16 times seeing them.

Their album covers were just as much a treat as their music, I always looked forward to the next Derek Riggs painting, whether it was the full album or one of the singles. Run To The Hills was a favorite.

Great, great band.

Fabulous bassist. Listen to the bassline in "Prisoner".

The guitarist's do their solo's at the same time overlapping each other.... one guitar up high and the other down low. Great synergy.

Bruce... well what can you say.... "Running Lowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww"

Nico McBrain.... nutso drummer.

Sadly, I have never seen them live. Run to the Hills is one of my all time favorite heavy metal songs.

I love their musical version of Samuel Taylor Coleridge's Rime of the Ancient Mariner. It is a stunning interpretation.

They also do a pretty good version of cross eyed Mary from Jethro Tull

Flight of Icarus

This is a retelling of the classic Greek myth of Icarus' flight, but with a twist. In the original, Deadallus and his son, Icarus, escape King Minos' prison by building wax wings and flying away on them. Deadallus warns Icarus not to fly too high, but the cocky teen rebels, his wings melt, and he plummets to his death in what is now called "The Icarian Sea" (he was reportedly buried by Hercules). In the song, Deadallus watches from the ground, and his advice to his son is to "fly and touch the sun." The now obedient Icarus does so, and realizes his father tricked him just before his wings melt.

Bruce kicked that songs ***.

Their "B" Sides were always another kind of treat, too.
Cross Eyed Mary, Total Eclipse, King Of Twighlight. Lot's of good songs that didn't get much attention.

I still like Tulls version better. The flute just gives it a twist that only Tull could pull off.

Right man...At least 'til the 80's they made some true gems as b-sides...IMO the masterpieces King of Twilight and Rainbow's Gold above all (even if these are cover), but I'd like to mention the UFO's Doctor Doctor cover (even if with Blaze...) used in every single concert to advertise the the waiting is over and just after the end of this song lights off, intro starts and then...the boys storm on stage!!! :p:
